Sure did, and we all had our doubts until that 4th down pass hit the ground and there were no flags on the field. On to the next and bowl eligibility!
It'll be interesting going forward if we look back to this game as the one that broke the curse of mostly losing close contests.
Next up on the list of things to stop is the consecutive losses to ranked teams. We have the opportunity in the next 2 games.
Our fans in the stadium exude a level of angst that is unsurpassed in college football. Everyone, players included, can feel it. TV commentators even talk about it. Then our team plays tight... just a coincidence?
It was a very good win in my book. Really two good wins in a row. We typically have lost road games when we're not up at half time and we lose a lot of close games at home. I'm happy for these kids.
5-1 into the bye week. Time to get ready for a big road test at Indiana. I would love to be 6-2 and returning home to face UCLA.
7-1 would be even better...... There's a chance. OSU has been surprised at home before.
Fans do pretty well. It gets to a point sometimes where the play is poor for an extended period of time and things get a little nerve wracking. All the fault lies with those on the field.
it's a game. Those nerve wracking moments are why it's not boring. The problem if there is one is that too many people have their feelings of self worth tied to the W-L record of a sports team. The whole state goes in to a funk when the Huskers lose. They've done studies to show not only the economic but psychological benefits to the state as a whole from a win versus a loss.
We visited 8 different stores over 3 hours on Saturday morning to try to find Husker t-shirts for our grandkids to wear to the game. You could find one of a style but the selection was very limited. Von Mauer was pretty much sold out. Rally had a limited selection. Nothing at multiple stores. Finally found 2 in the right sizes at Boutique Targette... The kids department salesman at Von Mauer said they were almost sold out of adult and kids Husker gear at the time. We didn't have enough time to drive out to Scheels but they might have had a better selection. Huskers win and you can feel the whole state rise up.
I’m not so sure about this statement. I wasnt sensing any angst at the game last Saturday. I was definitely concerned about our D in the first quarter, thinking their RB was gonna gash us all day. But they made adjustments and the D play was lights out. That made it a LOT more exciting and Maybe more energetic. (Not that our section wasn’t rocking the whole time,)
So in that regard, the play of the team affected the fans. Not the other way around.
As for the offense, things internal to the team provided angst. Poor snaps, whatever was going on with DR, etc.
If you hit a dog with a stick continually for 6 years it would be really weird if doesn't exhibit a high level of angst when someone walks toward it with a stick.
75% of the fans in the stadium do, but the "here we go again" vibe of the remaining 20,000 critics and worry warts just gives those kids another hurdle to overcome. It's quite a phenomena. Kinda like the booing that takes place in some pro stadiums although I'd take the high anxiety over the booing any day.

Bologna. Any hurdles to overcome are solely caused by those on the filed. Fan support, even if a certain % start getting a little worried late in the game due to repeated bad play on the field, is as good as just about every other place in the country, especially considering the long streak of meh results.
OK, so we'll disagree. I'm saying that after year after year of "WTF?" plays on the field and choke jobs when the game is on the line there's got to be more to the story than just blaming different players year after year.
Gee, I wonder why? It's not like we just let a WR run free and luckily had it bounce off him or it would have been tied. The fans will gain confidence when the team starts doing stuff like not getting 2 punts blocked in 1 game. Until that, I know I personally will be on pins and needles until the clock hits zero.
Yeah, coaches are to blame too, probably more so than the players. Putting anything on the fans is kind of crazy.
People act like we blew Rutgers out. They blew it and that play where the refs said they didn’t get in the endzone was questionable at best. We tried to give that game away. Meanwhile UNI got destroyed by the Jackrabbits…..
It’s true in a sense, but the bigger “one-score” problem is where we have a chance to win at the end if we just score, but fail to do so in some spectacular, inexplicable fashion we didn’t think could happen yet again (i.e., Illinois this year).
We were 3-19 in one possession games prior to the Rutgers game. It was the worst record for one possession games. Meaning more than any other D1 FBS school. Take the win and be proud our defense held them after our punt with roughly 2 minutes left in the game
Curses are probably the worst thing to fabricate as a reality in sports. There is no such thing as a curse. There are better teams with better players and coaching that just win the close contests. Once you start embedding BS into the minds of people they start to fixate on it. I almost prefer that this was a one-score game to get rid of that mythical obstacle.
Going back to when? 2020? What was the record in the 90s? This is a media stat that's brought up and placed upon a team whose members weren't even around to have been a part of that record. Truthfully a lot of NU teams were just awful (lacked talent and coaching) and that stat is reflective of it. How many NU players were drafted in the same period?
It has been in the heads of the players, fans and even the media. "Nebraska buckles under pressure"... been evident since Riley. It isn't the 90's buddy, and it hasn't been for 25 years. We need to get these monkeys off our back now whether you like it or not. We need to to move forward
