We buying this Ohtani story?

You do realize this isn't the 60s and people can actually pull up replays and call bullshit on your story, right?

It was a wicked hot pace and Smith was wide late and 1 of 3 horses rolling late and he had the horse that day. Afleet Alex was a superstar and got a horrific trip and caught late.

Sorry you lost money on Afleet Alex, he's the only horse in the Derby whose ever encountered trouble in the race.

Between the 3/4 pole and the 1M pole take a look at the horse, that horse is Noble Causeway ridden by Stevens (Gray silks, shadow roll and a star on his forehead), who was in 15th place and Giacomo was in 18th place. You will see Stevens take a move inside so Smith can go outside then Stevens immediately moves Causway back. At the 1M marker, Noble Causeway was in 12th place and Giacomo was now in 11th place. Stevens knew his horse was finished, and he was, cause he finished 14th in the race. That's where the hole was, Mike was already 5 wide, otherwise Smith would have had to go another two horses wide and would not have won, and likely finished 3rd. At the 1/16th pole (16 strides from the finish line) Mike was 5 wide and 1 1/2 length behind Alex and had to go 8 wide when he split horses earlier In the stretch.
Closing Argument would have won the race, not Afleet Alex, and Giacomo would have run 3rd.

You mean this isn't the 60's? Afleet Alex was backing up and getting passed late by the 1st and 2nd place horse.
Noble Causeway moved inside creating a shorter trip for Giacomo, that's the truth.
That's what Mike said in a national interview and the tape shows that.

Alex won 3 Grade 1 races, and 2 Grade 2 races. A VERY good horse, not exactly a superstar in a year of weak 3 year olds.

He was beaten by Proud Accolades, Wilko, Giacomo, and Closing Argument in Graded stakes races, not exactly Arrogate, American Pharoah, Justify or Flightline quality of superstardom. Far from it.

I’d bet Pat Valenzuela on a horse right now even though he’s like 59. Best gate and speed rider I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, when you see old sleepy(Kent), tell the jackass to actually finish every mount. He would have been suspended for life in Europe or especially Japan with the sh!t he pulls.
Agree on Valenzuela, probably the best position rider the sport has ever seen. It's a shame he had so many demons, no doubt he would be arguably considered the greatest ever in the sport. By the way, Mike was using Pat's saddle when he rode Giacomo to the Derby win.

I won't see Kent, but I'll pass your message to my son.. I'm sure my son will give you the old, "then don't bet him" reply. lol

again - there is like 200 years of precedent for this in boxing

as stated - permanent and instant lifetime ban if caught betting against your team

nothing would be in question any differently than it is today
I disagree. There are still plenty of ways to game the system even if only allowed to bet your team to win. You could lose on purpose any number of times to setup an upset payout for a later game in the season and turn it on, unfairly knowing that you are actually a lot better than you’ve looked.

Any sport where the athletes barely make any money would be even more ripe for this. Athletes also have other unfair inside knowledge about their own and other teams like injuries, matchups, game plans. It would be unfair no matter what.

Boxing is much different due to the lack of a real schedule or season. Then like Litespeed said, it’s also probably the easiest sport to fix anyway.

the entirety of this is preposterous

I honestly give zero shits about the morality discussion of gambling. Humans are all degenerates in some way or another. The legality of this is what will be interesting as betting with bookies is illegal in California. The interpreter taking the hit is much more than a potential PR saving move. It all depends on how far the state wants to go with this. Ohtani is a cash cow for California. Stay tuned.

To use your style - what part of my post is wrong? Instead of just speaking in meaningless hyperbole. Exhibit #10,000+ of the biggest hypocrite on the board and it’s not even close.
Yea dude a professional athlete is going to risk his entire livelihood and all his dreams by throwing multiple games in a season just to have a chance to set himself up for one bet that is far from a sure thing

Definitely something that would happen

👍

Also LOL at the insider knowledge piece. Show me a former pro athlete who makes money gambling on his sport he’ll be the first.

Calvin Ridley bet on his sport while playing and went something like 1-8 agains the spread

But totally plausible and definitely something everyone would worry about

“Unfair”!
😂😂😂

That doesn’t make sense because now you’re using former athletes to argue for current athletes…so that isn’t anything..citing one dumb player that lost money is not a trend.

Is there a law or rule saying bets have to be public and where would one find a list of everyone’s bets? I’m just wondering how I’m supposed to provide you with the information you’re asking me for.

Many active players have been caught gambling on nfl games just over the past 24 months

Their records are published

A hint: they’re terrible ATS!

Well everything's all cleared up now that Ohtani addressed reporters...without answering a single question, or explaining why the official story changed. Nope, nothing to see here folks.

Sincerely,
MLB
Thats the thing about athletics, especially the pros. As great as he was, you breathed on Jordan and it was a foul, yet he could take the skin of someones arm and no foul called.

In baseball, the .250 hitters and MOST young players have a strike zone the size of the plate black and a couple more inches, whereas Barry Bonds had a strike zone the size of a grapefruit.

Its all about putting asses in the seats. Forget the rules being applied equally.

Yes as professional athletes, especially elite level don’t ever think they will do anything wrong, or better stated, do anything they will be held accountable for. Do I believe his interpreter did this, no, questions of access to his accounts not being answered.

Want the truth to come out but that isn’t lilely with this much money and CA and MLB need for it to go away in the mix.

Truth doesn’t matter for way too many people today. Wanted to be true matter more than actual truth.

Ohtani hit his first homer as a Dodger and (according to the person who caught the ball) the Dodgers tried to bully the lady who caught it into giving it up fpr nearly nothing...I'm not sure if she did give up the ball but I am sure either her or Ohtani is lying about what happened after...Ohtani claims he met her after the game, she says that didn't happen.

Weird story.

You left out the part about how her Twitter handle is “Sugartitts!”

Guarantee sugartitts would have put that meeting on social media if it happened. I'm inclined to think it didn't happen.

a counter:

embezzlement happens literally all the time with athletes/celebs and is committed by the people closest to the star. literally all the time.

this guy has been with Shohei every minute of every day since coming to America

when you're worth a billion dollars (also literally), $4M is peanuts
welp, there you have it:

Learning more about this story...i'm just stunned at how deep this guy got into his bookie. Lost a total of 40mil over 19,000 bets? The deets are just disturbing. I had this one as wrong as possible.

Larry the cable guy went thru something like this with a lifelomg friend of his who drove his tour bus...don't remember the exqct deets but the bottom line was when Larry found out his friend was stealing from him he fired him on the spot in the middle of a tour and bought him a ticket back to his home and that was that.

Two examples of idiots who had it all and couldn't keep it. All they had to do was not steal from their employers and they woulda lived fat and happy lives

Dane Cook’s brother did the same thing

Looking better for Ohtani, although he looks pretty oblivious. Humans are the worst.

Shohei tonight tied Hideki Matsui for most MLB homers by a Japanese-born player

guy's unbelievable

That's some Grade A douchebaggery right there.
yep.

lifetime bans for bets against one's team are an effective deterrent.

this incident further highlights the unabashed idiocy of @SomedayHusker's post re: players throwing games with an end goal of setting up a plus-money payday ITT.

perhaps the single dumbest thing to ever hit the internet.

I'm sure i've posted dumber....and I agreed with his take on that and am not getting the comparison between the two here. I could absolutely see somebody who's in deep doing something like what Someday described.

you haven't

and they wouldn't

throwing away career earnings for a not even close to a sure thing 1-time payday - and having teammates/coaches go along with it?

get real

the literal dumbest thing I've ever read. much better chance the pro sports leagues are scripted than that ever happening.

this dipshit tried fading his team and was immediately caught and banned for life after pocketing $21,000. forfeited $millions.

you honestly think sportsbooks aren't paying extremely close attention to this stuff?

please. don't be an absolute moron like @SomedayHusker
