Under the 4 team format, Ohio State wouldn't have qualified

I think attendance is going to suffer to some degree especially in the quarter final games. How can the average fan justify going to a first round game at home, then a quarter final game in Pasadena, then a semi final game in New Orleans, and then a championship game in Phoenix. If you have to pick one, I guess you try to go to the home game of you’re a host? I have no idea
As I said during the playoff, all games should be on college campuses except the natty game, which should rotate.

I know that makes it just like the NFL, but CFB sold out a long time ago. May as well just fully embrace the NFL lite title.

No, it's not. Oregon proved they were the best by going undefeated, winning the Big 10, and beating OSU during the regular season. Oregon was more deserving of playing for the national title than any other team this year.

The expanded playoff only showed us that the team that "gels" at the end, and stays the most healthy, has the best shot at winning the "title".

I don't like it. It's doing exactly what many feared, which is diminishing the importance of the regular season. No 2-loss team should EVER have a shot at the title.

This might be one of the dumber posts I’ve read in awhile

Really? That post is far from one of the dumbest on here. What's dumb about it?

Anyone who's thinking objectively has to admit that a playoff does exactly what he's saying. Impossible to argue otherwise. That said, I also understand that many people are fine with that and prefer having a playoff to not having a playoff, despite it deemphasizing the regular season.

He said “Oregon proved they were the best team in the nation” and that also he doesn’t like the playoffs because the teams that are playing the best at the end of the year are going to win.

Yeah no shit lol

Oregon did not prove they were the best team in the country, as when it mattered most in the semi-finals, Ohio State whooped their ass.

Games are played different when championships/advancement are on the line, it’s a totally different vibe. Championship teams thrive and play good enough to win in these games.

Championships are not won on paper or in the regular season.

The new playoffs are amazing. Make the champions win a championship by actually winning in championship matches.

It'd be interesting to be able go back to see how many seasons Coach Osborne would have made a 12 team playoff. Would have been amazing to see Nebraska get home playoff game back when they were still great.

His point was that with the advent of the 12 team playoff rather than the 4 team, the regular season becomes less important. (Not to be confused with not important). Under last year's selection criteria, the loss to Oregon early in the season would/ could have potentially eliminated Ohio St from the final 4, the Michigan loss surely would have.

So while we may enjoy the expanded playoff format, Oregon did prove they were the best team throughout the regular season and earned the #1 seed. The other issue with a 12 team is the criteria for seeding teams. Under no circumstances should 9th and 12 ranked teams receive a bye. A 1-12 seeding would have put Oregon and Ohio St on opposite sides of the bracket and they would not have faced each other until the final.

This. It's less of an issue of who won the thing (OSU was a cut above everyone else during playoff) and more of an issue of who played who to get to the final game. And who knows how things would have played out between OSU and the Ducks had seeding been appropriate? Oregon gets a chance to shake some things out against the Boise/Indiana winner, wins against either PSU or ND and then doesn't come out cold as ice against OSU. It could have been a whale of a game.

If they would have seeded properly Oregon possibly could have been there in the end .They definitely would not have played Ohio State first if that was the case.

Also, Oregon played OSU in the quarter finals after a one week bye in the first round.

I'm in totally agreement with everything you said here, especially 9th and 12th ranked teams getting byes. Conference champions auto-getting top seeds is a bad idea, because clearly B10 and SEC are be leagues by a long shot.

I see his point and agree it the regular season becomes less important.

That said, the best teams get better over the course of the year, and sometimes a lot better. Ohio State was clearly playing like the best team in the country by the end of the year.
