I don't forsee any drama not invented by the fanatics with Trev at the helm. He's a pretty smooth operator. Just due to his stature in Husker history he's going to garner more attention but I think he'll be more judicious in his statements about football than Moos was at times. I will say that some of things Moos said were exactly correct though. He objectively looked at our roster when he got to Lincoln and said "6 wins would be a really good season". He could see the dogsh## roster Frost was working with. Multiple former Pipeline and Blackshirt players echoed that but most of us, myself included, ignored the warnings.
Trev is a smooth operator, but he also seems to be on the extreme straight and narrow.
the Frost rumors abound in direct opposition to Trev's way of living. the roster has been remade, Frost has his 4th year, hand-picked starter at QB, and we play in an average-at-best division (zero conf titles in 8 years).
if we don't win now & Frost continues his egomaniacal, woe-is-me ways around town, during booster events and on the recruiting trail, he may find himself in the unfamiliar scenario of being on the outside looking in.
I believe Trev Alberts has NU's best interests in mind.
I agree that Trev wouldn't be afraid to make a tough decision. I'm pretty optimistic about this season but Trev won't make any brash decisions. Let's be honest though. Our ADs haven't flown solo on the coaching decisions. Pederson got pressure from boosters to can Frank. Then multiple boosters of substance were privy to that coaching search. Tom got pressure from Hawks etal to hire Bo. No doubt Moos was told to go after Frost. Eichorst might have been the only guy to make a solo decision in the whole bunch and even then he was listening to that snake Alvarez.
no doubt, and that's the crowd Frost should be worried about most.
nothing more embarrassing for lifetime winners (large boosters) than getting your sh*t pushed in on a weekly basis.
the whole Big Red Rodeo no-show thing this year was an eye-opener, at least for me. the bloom is off the rose.
One very frustrating and yet maybe encouraging thing from last season was the number of close losses. It wouldn't have taken much to turn those in to wins. One guy making a couple of plays turns those games in to Ws. They HAVE to make those plays this year.

I used to tell teachers they had better "own their classroom/department". When results aren't meeting high expectations, the first question to ask the coach is why and what resources are you missing, how can the AD office help. Eventually, if results do not improve by whatever metric you use, then you start to put pressure on to expose where the blind problem is to the coach/employee.
It becomes apparent pretty quickly where problems exist. IMHO, those who think Trev is going to come in and exert himself into programs, I don't see that happening no matter if he was all world and a favored son.

This is pretty much right on (outside of the fact Caniglia held closer to 8k for football, almost 10k with standing room and they'd get those crowds against NW Missouri St and UNK). But yes, UNO sports at the DII level were almost entirely a dead end. Wrestling was doing well for itself, but almost entirely operated on an island. Denney was head coach and essentially athletic director of the Wrestling program. Nearly every head coach at UNO in the 90's and 00's operated as a de facto athletic director of their own programs. They were all little fiefdoms with their own agendas. Hockey was D-1 and Kemp ran it as a separate entity. Behrns did his own thing. Bob Herold did whatever he wanted with baseball. This was allowed to happen by less engaged athletic directors like Bob Danenhour. They later hired David Herbster, who actually has turned out to be a competent D1 athletic director at South Dakota, but he was pretty incompetent at UNO (or knew the writing was on the wall). David Miller was a waste of space as AD. There was a chancellor actively embezzling money from the athletic department and using AD money as her own personal slush fund. The Nancy Belck stain lasted for years.
One of the big accomplishments that Trev had early on, that I forgot to mention in prior posts, was the establishment of The One Fund. This essentially ended the multiple fiefdoms within the athletic department and united fundraising and capital campaigns under one unified banner. This happened right after the dissolution of football and wrestling, but Denney had to know it was coming and that his ability to raise money only for wrestling was likely coming to an end. That's speculation on my part though. But, bottom line is that the two men had pure disdain for each other even prior to the folding of the wrestling program. Individual sports still hold an annual golf tournament, etc. But, the wholesale fundraising for one sport only is largely gone.
This uniting of the athletic department was done under a singular vision and cannot be overlooked. The push to go D1 was never Trevs decision. As I've said in multiple posts, the Omaha elite wanted the program D1 and wanted an arena built near AkSarBen. The acquisition of land for a athletics campus was happening as far back as the mid 00's when Chilli Greens was first purchased. The idea from the rubes that think Trev came in and cancelled football and wrestling on his own is laughable and lacks basic fundamental understanding of how big decisions get made, and who is actually in charge. At the same time, the background work for things like Tal Andersen and Baxter were happening under Trev's watch through things like The One Fund and his relations with alums and the Omaha business community.
This is a solid hire for NU and it's funny how many on here have such a rudimentary working knowledge of the work Trev had been doing in Omaha.

From one standpoint the hire is smart. If it's 50/50 that Frost gets canned in the next 2 years, who better to do it than a fellow "Husker Legend" as opposed to an AD that merely appears to be a "soul-less Executive-type {Eichhorst} or a polished administrator". The fanbase would like the optics better, and you wouldn't see a Pelini-style coup suceed in any way.

We keep scraping the bottom of the Husker Legend barrel under the adage that we want to return to those good ol' days, when the sport has evolved and drastically changed. And we may need a disruptive thinker with all our inherent geographical disadvantages, and dearth of hot chicks in Lincoln.

I completely agree with this. Trev is a Nebraska guy. Frost is a Nebraska guy. But I do believe Trev will make the tough decisions for the betterment of the program. Whether eventually that is with Frost or not.
I do not understand the people bashing this hire. What the hell is a splash hire when it come to an AD anyways. Trev spent 12 years at UNO and made some difficult decisions while in that position. I fully believe Trev will make decisions for NU athletics for the best interest of all athletics as well as the student athletes.
The one person I empathize with is Osborne. If and I mean IF a change does need to be made and one of his guys has to relieve the duties of another of his guys.

I hear what you’re saying, and agree for the most part, but what’s to say Trev isn’t an up and comer?
At the very least, I believe he will be quite competent in the role, if not excellent. I know we don’t need to be a training ground, I get that, but maybe he has everything we are looking for already.
It would help to know the other names they looked at through this process, no doubt…

I think that crowd you are referring to is exactly right, but I would add in another bigger reason.. and that is all the turmoil kicked up with last year's defiance to the Big Ten.
We saw an awful lot of middle fingers given to the league from the head coach and implicitly by the prior AD, and the "crowd up top", happen to like their B1G grant monies and don't want to give that up anytime soon.
This hire, and the messaging was very strongly PRO Big Ten.
They are at a minimum, going to put a muzzle on what Scott Frost is allowed to say about the conference etc.
