Trev it is...

I am not sure how Trev will do as an athletic director but if he brings the same intensity/performance when he was a player…watch out.

Many people forget how he tormented Charlie Ward with one healthy arm in the Orange Bowl game that was given to FSU by the officials. Winking

Trev Alberts was one of the best Nebraska defenders of all time and I plan on supporting him.

Trev is a real smart guy, maybe all the decisions he makes at Nebraska won’t be favored by some fans, but I believe he will do just fine. N

You should have just pointed to Shawn Eichorst/Bob Diaco as Exhibit A of an AD stepping outside his lane and why you don't want ADs meddling in assistant coaching hires (not that Riley was destined for greatness anyway).
You don't trust a clueless AD to control that, just like you shouldn't trust a clueless coach to handle it without any supervision.

Why do people want random outside hires that know nothing about Nebraska? This is a small state with a unique football program. I like the hire of Trev
Because we have a large contingent of people on this board that doesn't like hiring '" Nebraska " guys. I don't know why, nor do I care. I'm guessing they think it's nepotism and can point out hires in the past that didn't or haven't worked out.

The Nebraska guy thing can roll both ways. Either to console Scott if the ax is coming or to console fans when it's not and they think it should.

Nebraska finally has things right. The new AD can be around for 20+ years. Frost can be around for 20+ years. The other coaches can be around for 20+ years. THe only coach that isn't going to be around that long is the volleyball head coach.

Stability will be a new thing for Nebraska and that was needed.

I don't think this means that Frost will be around for 20+ years. Whether that happens depends on whether Frost improves as a coach.

greatest hire of all time. maybe? as long we get to fb playoffs in the next 5 years and start up mens and womens hockey teams I will be fine

Agree or disagree with the hire; He is our AD, how about we put down the pitch forks and stand behind the guy.

Personally, I think it will work out just fine. Bottom line is he loves the Huskers more than he loves a single coach. He will do the right thing no matter if that is to keep Scott or fire him. Give the man a chance and lets support the guy.

"We're going to win at everything. That's just what Nebraska does."

Wondering if this quote will go down in infamy with Steve Pedersen's "I will not let Nebraska gravitate toward mediocrity," Bill Callahan's "Restore the Order," Bo Pelini's "I haven't forgotten how to coach defense and how to stop the run," and Scott Frost's “I’m hoping the Big Ten has to modify their system for us.”
Trev's comment seemed tame compared to the others. I mean, what is he supposed to say? "We will win a few and lose a few" wouldn't make me feel very inspired.

As far as Restore the Order, had HCBC not brought along his college roommate to be DC and sufficiently kissed Tom Osborne's ring, he might still be here with the order restored.

There is a rumor that no power 5 candidates would interview
i wont doubt it.
its a pressure cooker job and its going to take a minute.
(and again, if bo could knock out 9-10 with some nonchalance towards recruiting and some hires, then its not impossible.)

What is amazing is that Bo won as much as he did while all we heard was

He hated recruiting
Did not hire experienced coaches
Only wanted "yes men"
Super stubborn and would not change.

I mean, imagine how many games a coach would would at NU if he just did the opposite of those things! 10 wins a year? Maybe an 11 win season?

I have no idea if this was a good hire nor does anyone else at this point in time. Only time will tell. With that, I wish Trev the best and hopefully he can improve the football program and bring in the cash. It should be interesting.

At first this was extremely underwhelming, but after listening to the press conference, I feel pretty good about it. I mean we all want Nebraska to get back to its ways, and here we have Scott Frost at coach and Trev as AD, both people who know, both physically and mentally, what it was like.

I’m also sure that Trev will keep Frost in check (it seems like Frost runs a very loose ship), and if things go south he seems to be the type that would say “OK Frost, do we really need a Harry Potter cosplayer on the team talking nonsense and ruining QBs? Why did you have the little WR play RB? Where are the RBs?”

So, GBR

One point that Trev emphasized was that highly successful people all have the trait of working very hard. He spent a fair amount of time with that. I kind of wonder if that was a shot across the bow of our coaching staff.. NO inside info but his comments about that struck me. We all should remember the stories about Tom only spending one night a week at home during the season while he slept on a sofa in his office so he could watch film and work on game prep. I haven't heard similar stories about our current staff.

Most of the hissy fits and anger are just people who lost their little football and wrestling teams at a D2 school. On a national scale, nobody cares about that. They would notice that Nebraska wins football games again though.

Trev is a solid hire and will provide the stability needed. As time passes the ones still butthurt over the Omaha stuff will move on with life. This hire was just their last anger moment to let out the steam of anger that was sitting deep inside themselves for the last decade.

The coaches are in place. Now it's just about winning.

IF he ultimately fires Frost, hopefully he won't feel obligated to get Osborne's approval for the new coach.

The thing that we were proud of in Coach Osborne instilling a culture and impressing values upon these young men....well those values generally don't go away. If Coach Osborne is passed or otherwise not involved in the next coaching decision, a WWOD moment for Trev will likely still be ever present. I would expect Trev to hire someone he feels Osborne would approve of, rather than just go full blown merc for say a Saban...if there's even one out there.

It remains to be seen how this works out.

I do not like his talk of staying in the Big Ten. He doubled down on it, and to me, that is a disaster for the football program. I can't overstate this enough. It's that big of a disadvantage to the program from what they once were.

The only way it works, is to completely reinvent yourself.

On the other hand, Trev knows how to BS and lie and weasel in and out of things like a used car salesman, and that skill can be useful, depending on what you are trying to do.

Some other thoughts:

It is interesting that this happens and Scott is out of town.

Also, Trev is a big personality, an alpha dog if you will, as is Scott. There is potential for issues anytime you have two chefs in a kitchen.

I don't think Scott is safe at all. The fanbase might, and it's another "Nebraska" guy type thing, but I have a feeling Trev is going to be nice at first, and then at some point, he isn't going to put up with the bullshit.

Trev also has a big mouth, this could be good, or bad, depending on the situation.

The drama is only beginning.. like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.

I’m trying to read up on it and would like some actual data. Football and wrestling were cut for financial reasons, are financials improved? I can’t find a lot on where they were and where they are now.
Maverick sports were never going to be consistently good (wrestling was an exception) but none of the other sports were usually very good. The football stadium held barely over 3000 people. So after they cut those, they now have Baxter Arena (would have never gotten that in DII) and brand new baseball and softball facilities. Alberts wasn't a failure at UNO like many believe. Im glad he has the balls to make tough decisions (I honestly dont believe he was the only one making those decisions). No way in 2 years with zero AD experience did he come in and convince the big dogs to go DI and axe football and wrestling. Believing that would be just plain ignorant. I would bet TO had some input on that as well as they didnt like subsidizing UNO athletics all that much. Then TO helps IWCC start s football program? Come on man. That was planned much before Trev got there.

That was just to avoid being at home.

Zing!
