The time might be right for Frost....

Not what I said though, is it?

This thread is about hiring Scott Frost. Those calling for Frost can't force the AD's hand to bring him on board. The AD will bring in whoever he wants. No guarantees it will be Frost.

Get it?

I never said the new AD would bring in Frost. I just said that the time may the right (as in perfect timing) for him to get a shot. Between Blo and the mass exodus of recruits that will most likely be coming, the program is already in the gutter, so the fan base will be a little more patient with a rebuild.

Never thought we would get a conference title. Thought it was reasonable to start getting better athletes and leave the program in better shape than what he took over. And yes, the program will be in way better shape athlete-wise.
But then it will get blown up for another scheme.
Why couldn't we try to find a coach who could build the roster and...you know...win?
I think this whole mentality of "Riley wasn't brought here to win" is complete bs and a cop out. If it is true, no one should be happy about the hire.

No. Not everyone. Just you and a few others. And I was right. Just because your feelings are hurt does not change the facts. Must be all the road games and couple bowls I went to before I realized he was a douchebag. He knows football, but was predisposed with being a douchebag.
Dude, you're lost. Attending games? Great for you going to bowls, too! Golly, we probably passed in the concourses!

You were posting about Melvin Gordon's exploits in the game threads today, yet the posters who "are predisposed with a douchebag" magically exclude you! So funny. Try taping off your pliers before Monday. Your angry brain is fried.

Stand up and represent. Oh, wait a minute? Mike Riley? Ok Scott, you next time. Lol

Where did I say he wasn't brought here to win? He came here and found a culture that was doing things out of spite and anger, instead of pride. That is not a winning culture, and he has not instilled a culture to win either.
Like I said, I am a sucker for hoping he would do a good job. Props to you and your buddies for being put front and hating on it from day 1.

I was asked if I supported Bo. I responded to that question. Why so upset about the Melvin Gordon shot? I was simply stating facts. You guys are teaching me how this works.

Not true, and if you ever read my posts you'd know I wanted him to succeed. I simply called him out for stupid coaching mistakes, then was promptly called a blotard or blohard by some child named 4.6.3.
I genuinely thought Riley was going to turn the corner this year and win 10. That wasn't fake optimism, I bought in. I don't expect a conference title by now, but the way people were treating Riley and his mistakes was eerily similar to how people were treating Bo when his teams kept crumbling " you want cally again! Tom only won 9!" Etc etc.
You did far more on here than simply "hope" Riley would succeed. You led a witch hunt against anyone who dared report on what was at times obvious. You wanted groupthink, period.

I find it interesting people were willing to call out B for his obvious blunders, and rightly so, but anyone who pointed out rileys obvious blunders was an idiot.

Do you not understand the timeline? You have to give guys a chance. Does not matter who they are. Just like the next guy. Lord help him if it isn't Frost or another former player.

You got me. I wanted the staff to be successful. My bad.
At least you get to tell everyone you are right! Why does that make you so mad? Are you having some weird episode?
I'm pretty sure we will never have an AD dumb enough again to hire a 63 year old coach coming off a four win season. So, it's likely that we can't get worse

In all fairness his last year at Oregon state he was 5-7. But nevertheless we hired a 63 yr old coach with a .541 Career winning percentage (including Nebraska).

When you get around to realizing that "408" had nothing to do with today's game or anything to do with posts any other time anyone suggested Riley was a questionable hire, I might believe your late-night posts tonight - but until then, I'll just sit tight. Teaching you seems elusive as you cannot decide what an A looks like.

Ok Mel. You got me. My bad for wanting NU to succeed. Sorry it still angers you Blo is not here, that much is obvious. Try not to let it trigger ya.

The program is not in any better shape athlete wise. The only thing better is that the media likes the guy.

And a fanbase got sold a bag of crap and bought it. And that is why we deserve what we got.

We have more than 3 linebackers and the lines are restocking. That alone makes it true.

Pretty sure if Bo had a losing season fans woulda been coming after him sooner as well.
You also confuse criticism with "fire everybody" as you like to say. It's more of a strike system. Tomany people today was the official strike out.
I dunno if I want that yet...it does suck to have to start over again but part of me believes it's like the removal of the band aid. Get it over with the sooner the better so we can move on. But if he wins 6 games he's safe.

Fan base had to support it, we needed this to work. Every wrong hire makes it much more difficult to get back to the top.
The fans didn't have to support a bad hire and a three year blow job by the media. They (we) were either too stupid or just happy to have a nice guy ( stupid).

Yes. I supported Blo until 2010 when it became apparent he did not embrace the program and worked against himself. I went after the fans that were blind to that and refusesd to acknowledge he was not a program leader. Good football coach, just a horribly bitter, cancerous personality. And if you pay attention that was after 3 years. Not immediately after the hire because "he ain't from round here" just look at the jokes made at Riley's wife's expense... ****ing disgusting.

The fact is no one cared that Riley wasn't from round here-- we felt that he was simply not a good fit and not a good coach.
And for the record everything you said about Bo was probably right too.. as a Husker fan it took me a little longer to realize that Bo was no good just a little longer, probably because of his disdain for recruiting showing years later.

Peterson would never leave the WC. Lol Good idea though. I love that guy. Great coach. Tough. Develops. Imagine Solich coaching up 3 stars to their potential....

Your addled brain is truly impossible. Without regard to anything stated you assume that displeasure with the Riley hire is displaced Pelini love. Enough with you. What is the point. You're opinions change with the wind anyway.

It's obvious you are upset because Pelini was mentioned. Funny how you continue to fixate on that time and again. Which is enjoyable to see. Keep fixating on it.... again and again. Even though you want to tell everyone different.

It always amazes me that we ran that defense for years and people still don't realize safeties played linebacker in that defense. We played maybe one or two "conventional " linebackers and safeties that people who might pay attention would realize played linebacker responsibilities.

If his staff recruited a single serviceable tight end instead of claiming they were being phased out of the game, it would help this team a bit. I like Hopped but after that?

And got ran over by any decent running team.

I'm gonna stick with Riley yet this year unless we really tank and have another losing season. I think Diaco will eventually prove out to be a good hire. If this OL continues to suck over the next few weeks Cav needs to go. His seat is red hot! Can't tell how good Tanner really is yet simply because the guys up front have been playing like crap. He's been completely rattled.

Nice try, nope-- Riley had 3 recruiting cycles to bring in a "serviceable" TE-- I seem to remember you and others blasting me for saying Snyder should be on the field by now.

So many options. Even if Frost came there are a ton of variables. I could see him keeping most of the defensive staff. I could also see him starting basically over.

Be interesting to see what happens to Williamsx2 and Parella as those are generally considered our best recruiting coaches.

Will he hide in a closet when things get tough? Will he go to Stanford for a year or two 1st?
Here's the problem as I see it... We aren't the ones who have a say in who gets hired next... This entire board could be united behind Frost, but the next AD will make the hire... SP went with Callahan. Eichorst went with Riley... The next AD may decide he wants to bring in someone none of us could get behind.

As much as I want MR to succeed, today was as discouraging as it gets... and I didn't get to watch it at all! I don't know who the next guy will be, but for this board to be united behind Scott Frost means nothing. The next guy will hire who he wants, not who we want.
Oh, it's a big job, a BIG job to fix all the mess the program currently is.
He ant fixing shit your delusional.

10 years minimum. Especially if Trev hires him. The first 5 years are a wash due to the stench left from the current staff
Man I don't disagree with anything else in your post but please no Alberts. What he did to the UNO wrestling team was pure evil. I'd prefer he left the state and never returned. Maybe him and Eichorst can meet up with Pederson and fall into a volcano.

Aside from not being true ( although I get the sentiment) it's beside the point.

The last coach recruited to a system that won at least nine games every year. Statistically speaking, you could predict he would continue to do so.

We hired a coach that could not improve on that and in fact has made the program considerably worse. And the roster has not been improved. The further we get from the old staff's players the worse we get. We were better with a quarterback not recruited for this system. After two and a half recruiting classes, how much of our roster was recruited from the old staff? How long would it take a decent coach to bring in impact players? This staff has very few if any. Heck, We don't run a system or have the players to separate from mid majors.

How many scholarships are we under the limit? This class will likely collapse. I don't see how this program is any better other than the media loves the guy and treats him like he is actually competent. heck, we even have a fanbase that has lowered standards because the guy plays nice with the media. And anybody that thinks the media is competent has to simply ask yourself why has the media been hyping up this staff and team when we suck?

What happens if he doesn't work? Who do we blame? What is left?
What if he's very successful? He's worked under the best offensive mind in the game for a good part of his coaching career. He's turning things around quickly at UCF. He's a young, intelligent coach who's been successful everywhere he's been. It would be a shame if he's winning big at another program and we chose to pass him over.

I am petty against a bunch of "fans' who did nothing but bitch from day 1. That is just plain stupid. The fanbase is so divided that it is just stupid. I don't care who the next guy is, I won't bitch and moan about every play that doesn't work. That is just sad and pathetic. Everyone needs to pull the same end of the rope.
Want to be an attractive destination for recruits? Be a fan base that does not torch things every play call.
And all you do is bitch about bitchin' fans. And guess why the fan base is divided? Because our AD decided to hire a career .500 coach with the main purpose of fixing the culture and being nice, not winning games. And then we're surprised when this coach is average and can't win enough games. You know what fixes culture and unites the fanbase? Having a coach who knows how to win.

In other words, the Riley hire has been a total failure.
