The time might be right for Frost....

I'm pretty sure we will never have an AD dumb enough again to hire a 63 year old coach coming off a four win season. So, it's likely that we can't get worse
Not what I said though, is it?

This thread is about hiring Scott Frost. Those calling for Frost can't force the AD's hand to bring him on board. The AD will bring in whoever he wants. No guarantees it will be Frost.

Get it?

I have always been an 'open the checkbook and bring in a proven winner' guy, but after thinking about this for a while, the time might be right for SF.

I know, I know....he has never led a top DI program, has only had barely a full season as a HC, and it may be just a shot in the dark that he could be successful quickly here.

Here are a few reasons why I think he may succeed..... or at least get the leash to have a chance to succeed here at Nebraska. Plus....hell, we are used to embarrassing losses at this point.

1) The leash. I believe that Husker fans would give him a longer leash and afford him more time to succeed. Right or wrong, fans will give him a longer leash, just because he is a former Husker.

2) We have hit the bottom. Maybe even rock bottom as a program. How could he possibly screw this up even worse?!?!

3) If he IS successful, he will more than likely stay long-term. Another coach will likely use the NU job as a stepping stone.

So the reason I say this may be the exact right time for Frost has more to do with how far the program has fallen and where it is perceived nationally. Regardless of who the next HC is, I think it is hard to defend Riley and say that the next coaching hire will be sooner than later. Rightfully so at this point. GBR.
Scott Frost should have been offered the job when they hired Riley. He ain;t coming here now. He's setting himself up for a big time job. Nebraska's not a big time job anymore.

At least Frost is establishing an identity at UCF with "UCFast". Still not sure what Langsdorf's identity really is.

I'll say this, if Frost ends up going to a program like Florida or Tennessee and making them relevant again, it's going to be a tough pill to swallow.

Langs identity is a long time assistant to Riley and a cup of coffee in the NFL coaching Eli Manning.

1st you have to fire Sean.

Then you have to hire an AD. By the way isn't there an early signing period this year? So your move on an AD has to be rather quick.

Here are the three names I like for Head Football coach. (not in any order)
1- Mike Gundy. Guy is a good coach. Can recruit, doesn't like being second fiddle to OU, doesn't like Boone Pickens. I know he played there but I think he would leave for a big time program like NU.

2- Scott Frost - He knows the culture and he would take the job, he is a winner.

3- Jeff Brohm (Purdue Head Coach) That guy can make Chicken Cordon Blue out of chicken crap! He is, Imo, a future HOF head coach. I know its early but that guy has IT.

It doesn't have to be Frost. Of course by having to get a new AD you don't know what kind of coach he would be looking for. But I do think most of the fan base would be fine with a big name proven coach (like a Chip Kelly/Bob Stoops type) or young up & comer (like a Jeff Brohm/PJ Fleck type). BTW I'm just using those names as examples...lol. Mike Riley had 18 year or so track record of being mediocre. The hire was a complete head scratcher for almost everybody in the entire fan base even the current staunch Riley supporters. If they tell you otherwise they aren't being truthful. For example, if the new AD hired a Kirk Ferentz type (long tenured coaches with mediocre success), I don't think that be very exciting to the fan base. The Riley hire was such a reach, I am willing to take the chance in going with what a new AD would bring in because trends and history show you what we got now isn't going to get us where we want to be.

Hard to argue against you after today.

Sure, I get it.

And I also get that people thought hiring Mike Riley was a good idea and that it would work. And they have continued to believe that. And that is funny to me.

What about Sumlin or Kiffin? Big time guys, would make a splash. Wouldn't want them at Iowa, but it might pull you out of this, then get Frost.

If Kifden couldn't win at USC or Tennessee, he won't win here. Sumlin might not be a bad idea.

My initial reaction to the Riley hire? This exact quote to my buddies "why would they do that, he is the only other D1 coach that loses at least 4 games every year and still has a job somehow. But guess what, I wanted it to work. I will want the next guy to work. I am not a petty bitch and hope someone fails. Why? Because I love Husker Sports. I Don't care if they played here or didn't.

If you really think you aren't petty you may want to re read about 18000 of your 19000 posts.

I would not want an up-tempo offense (preferably). Puts way too much pressure on the defense if the offense gets stuffed a series or 2 in a row.
Build around defense and get back to elite on that side of the ball.

But we do need a modern college offense. Take advantage of the substitution rules, the blocking down field etc. we don't have to be Oregon, but we should be able to threaten the D in a lot more ways than we do. I'm thinking Oklahoma offense.

I am petty against a bunch of "fans' who did nothing but bitch from day 1. That is just plain stupid. The fanbase is so divided that it is just stupid. I don't care who the next guy is, I won't bitch and moan about every play that doesn't work. That is just sad and pathetic. Everyone needs to pull the same end of the rope.
Want to be an attractive destination for recruits? Be a fan base that does not torch things every play call.

Yup. But it is seen here all the time that a "modern" offense is not acceptable here.... simply because it takes advantage of the D by throwing the ball.

That's great, I didn't ask, but obviously you wanted to tell me that.

So, now that you did, I have a few questions. Did you hope for Bo to succeed? Did you actually think Riley would succeed? Did you bitch about Bo and complain about fans who bitched about a coach that has been worse?

Yes. I supported Blo until 2010 when it became apparent he did not embrace the program and worked against himself. I went after the fans that were blind to that and refusesd to acknowledge he was not a program leader. Good football coach, just a horribly bitter, cancerous personality. And if you pay attention that was after 3 years. Not immediately after the hire because "he ain't from round here" just look at the jokes made at Riley's wife's expense... ****ing disgusting.

You played zero role in dividing the fan base.
Everyone wants the buskers to win. Some people believe that means being for the coaches no matter what, others think the coaches are not above the program.

Where did I say I did?

You are losing it.
No, you are.
You are one of the most toxic posters on here, yet you have the nerve to call others out for dividing the fan base.
You can't handle that some folks care more about the program than they do the coach,

You're like the frat boy in the bar trying to act tough and pick fights with everyone, then someone calls you out for your shit and moves to kick your ass and you throw your hands up and go "whoa calm down psycho I was just messing around."

Lol. Sure thing. You really are slipping. Sleep it off, the hangover is gonna be bad for you. I am so divisive for wanting the Huskers to succeed. I apologize for that, is that better? Totally my fault.

Everyone on this board who believes Digits and Dots ever believed Bo "is good football coach," stand on your head. (Nod to Henry Blake.)

And its truly hilarious for Digits to suggest that he supported "Blo" but then spent the last three years ripping anyone who questioned why Riley was hired as a Blo supporter - I guess he's all about the program now. Such anger and confusion.

No. Not everyone. Just you and a few others. And I was right. Just because your feelings are hurt does not change the facts. Must be all the road games and couple bowls I went to before I realized he was a douchebag. He knows football, but was predisposed with being a douchebag.

Never thought we would get a conference title. Thought it was reasonable to start getting better athletes and leave the program in better shape than what he took over. And yes, the program will be in way better shape athlete-wise.
But then it will get blown up for another scheme.
