The time might be right for Frost....

I have always been an 'open the checkbook and bring in a proven winner' guy, but after thinking about this for a while, the time might be right for SF.

I know, I know....he has never led a top DI program, has only had barely a full season as a HC, and it may be just a shot in the dark that he could be successful quickly here.

Here are a few reasons why I think he may succeed..... or at least get the leash to have a chance to succeed here at Nebraska. Plus....hell, we are used to embarrassing losses at this point.

1) The leash. I believe that Husker fans would give him a longer leash and afford him more time to succeed. Right or wrong, fans will give him a longer leash, just because he is a former Husker.

2) We have hit the bottom. Maybe even rock bottom as a program. How could he possibly screw this up even worse?!?!

3) If he IS successful, he will more than likely stay long-term. Another coach will likely use the NU job as a stepping stone.

So the reason I say this may be the exact right time for Frost has more to do with how far the program has fallen and where it is perceived nationally. Regardless of who the next HC is, I think it is hard to defend Riley and say that the next coaching hire will be sooner than later. Rightfully so at this point. GBR.

Except for a few numbers, the majority of the fan base would be on board with this.

The question is...do we really know if Scott Frost would want to come back with the current state of the program? Maybe he would jump on the opportunity or maybe politely say no thanks.

Not sure Frost is the answer or that he would leave UCF now.

I am not sure either. But hell, outside of Nick Saban, Dabo, or Urban, I am not sure of anybody coming in here. As far as coming here, you would have to ask him I guess.

I would take Frost in a heartbeat, but I'm also not so sure he would come back. I would take him now and it's not just because he's a former Husker. Watch his UCF team. They play hard and fast. Mark my words, UCF will keep getting better and better. Frost's stock nationwide is going to skyrocket by the end of this season. If Nebraska wants him, it's got to be this year IMO, because he will get better job offers (than Nebraska) after people see what he's going to do at UCF.

Let's hire the UCF athletic director first. That would be a major upgrade.

For people that say Frost isn't proven....look at Paul Chryst. Was .500 at Pitt. But he's a good fit at Wisconsin and knows the culture (was a QB there like Frost was here). Frost couldn't possibly be worse than the last 4 guys we've hired. What do we have to lose at this point?

Will he hide in a closet when things get tough? Will he go to Stanford for a year or two 1st?
Ok, so you don't like him. Critique his coaching/recruiting track record then, not stuff that happened when he was a college kid. Sorry for thinking you may actually be capable of that, but just trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm 100 percent sure of two things:

1) you wouldn't have done jack to stop Phillips either.
2) you're not even in the same zip code smarts wise to get into Stanford.

And I mean both of those in a respectful way.

I am glad that I am still not held accountable for all of the stupid s"#t I did when I was 20. I am more worried about how successful of a coach he could be than anything you listed above, double. I am not necessary starting a Scott Frost for HC campaign, but I am just pointing out a few factors that mean he may have a shot to succeed here.

AS IN THE PERFECT TIME -- but I do love Les Miles. We need to make a major splash hire though Im talking top 5 paid coaches kind of deal with many perks like jets new cars etc.

I agree with the time factor. He will get minimum a decade.

Well, I don't know about a decade, but he would be afforded a much longer leash than was afforded Riley.

What happens if he doesn't work? Who do we blame? What is left?

Nah, how's the koolaid mix you bought from the World Herald & Journal Star tasting tonight, pumper?
You got me. I wanted the staff to be successful. My bad.
At least you get to tell everyone you are right! Why does that make you so mad? Are you having some weird episode?

10 years minimum. Especially if Trev hires him. The first 5 years are a wash due to the stench left from the current staff. The 5 years after is on the promise things will change. A couple years in there will be good enough to just stay status quo.

Come on double. You know damn well I wanted Riley to be successful here. And I have not been one of those carrying the flag for hiring every former Husker in coaching....or not even in coaching for that matter. Things aren't looking good for Riley, though.

This might be heading towards a Callahan-esque type of finish. Hopefully I am wrong, but it sure as hell does not look good.

This will be worse than that.

This first thing was a joke when everyone wanted him hired over Riley and it's still a joke.

How about Leach? Proven offensive mind. Then have him get an NFL guru for D. However, like the idea of Frost no matter what.

You keep trying.. You don't give up. Or maybe Alabama should have kept Mike Shula, or Michigan should have kept Brady Hoke, or Oklahoma should have kept John Blake.
He'll stop as soon as he posts some combination of "Melvin Gordon," "408," and "Bolover." It's the Digits and Dots default. Until today he thought it was witty.

Here's the problem as I see it... We aren't the ones who have a say in who gets hired next... This entire board could be united behind Frost, but the next AD will make the hire... SP went with Callahan. Eichorst went with Riley... The next AD may decide he wants to bring in someone none of us could get behind.

As much as I want MR to succeed, today was as discouraging as it gets... and I didn't get to watch it at all! I don't know who the next guy will be, but for this board to be united behind Scott Frost means nothing. The next guy will hire who he wants, not who we want.

I'm pretty sure we will never have an AD dumb enough again to hire a 63 year old coach coming off a four win season. So, it's likely that we can't get worse
