we ranked 9th in the country in 40+ yard runs last year with the same (or worse) personnel in the backfield
we ranked 2nd in the B1G in 50+ yard plays last year with the same (or worse) personnel on the outside
bringing in the top high school QB in the country has led to a less explosive offense than the one we watched a year ago
that is almost impossible to fathom

To me, they’re not serious about running unless they have Mazz at right guard. He must not be still in trouble because they were trotting him out at left tackle. He didn’t look too good there.
He and the Field Goal Coordinator have been on a month long bender in Vegas.
The fact Raiola is absolutely no threat running the ball makes our run game non existent.

If "fans" and parents could hear what coaches talk about when they are chatting during pregame they would be shocked. So many jokes, so much ripping on their players. It really is the best!
Good coaches, bosses, leaders lead by finding the team's weaknesses and strengths and adjust accordingly.

I hear things like this about DR a lot, but I really don't think it is the case. DR never really played in a wide-open spread attack, where he threw the ball all over the field. He could have chosen to play anywhere last year, and he chose Buford, who runs the ball a ton. Most of his highlights were deep shots off play-action.
I don' t know if it has to be I formation persay but we could definitely use a sprinkling of power football from time to time and not just on 3rd and short. we can still run 3 and 4 wides too. I just feel like this OL is not equipped to do some of the stuff that we are making them do. Agree they need to find what works for these guys and for our young QB. 175 plays to memorize isn't it.
It's tough to be a good running team if the O-line is only working on back-peddling. I can see Satt calling 20+ run plays in a row this Sat, some into 7-8 man fronts just to stick it to the masses. For someone to reach this level at that salary, not to realize you need to have a good run game to take pressure off of your (Freshman) QB is beyond belief. I just want this offense to be good at something, something they can rely and fall-back on when the video game play calling goes off the rails.
If your team can only rush when you have a RB at QB, you don't know how to scheme a rushing game.
In theory, the threat of the pass should be able to back off the LB's, but we can't even get players to do their jobs well. This offense is far too slow to not be efficient.
You talk constantly about being aggressive, running the football all things that Paterno and TO did with much success.
Then the bell rings and you turn into Mike Leach.
We wish. Thing with Leach is, he could win doing what he did, because that is who they were. Chucking it around all game and playing fast was their identity, it was a strength for them, not a weakness.
You can’t try to be TO one minute and Mike Leach the next, this was one of SF issues.

Do coaches look at "yards per play" to measure their offense? Maybe they do, I have no idea.
You would think if you’re an offensive coordinator being paid millions it would be a stat you’d be aware of
The OL isn't stellar by any stretch of the imagination, but don't forget that the tight ends have a reputation for being atrocious at blocking inline and the WR crew is not blocking either so when we talk about 2nd level, we have to take that into account. My theory is that Dylan is more comfortable out of shotgun, but without a running threat at QB it's pretty tough to run against (usually) seven in the box. It would be better to run out of I formation with a fullback, but then that limits other things. They could also go shotgun with two backs-- I've heard that could help but I'm not a coach and I can't explain why that would be.
Bottom line, scoring is hard for this team. If teams can limit the big play and force us to score off of these 10+ play drives we are screwed. I think that's why we're seeing teams just grab our WR's if they get beat deep. Give us the penalty yards, no big deal....

Whether written, conscious, unconscious, subconscious this has to be at play. Dylan has to be the center point of the offense, without getting hit and without exposing his uncle's oline has being dangerous to the health of the qb, while making the transfer WR happy and making it seem like a place guys will want to transfer to...RB is minimized in the NFL game and it isn't necessary to recruit transfer RBs as they have become so interchangeable with slot WR. Of course, a smart coach would understand that the game has moved so far towards small ball, that a power-based offense that can change tempo and control the clock might become very effective, especially coupled with a deep defense. But we would surely lose Dylan in such a case. My money is on the side that the coaches are scammers and incompetent and are trying to trick the fans as long as they can to get the biggest checks possible. Human nature is such that if you give a guy 1-5 million for failing upward he is going to keep failing.
They will commit to the run, average 2.3 ypc and everyone will complain they ran it to much.
