Satterfield “Must get in the mindset” to run

I guess that is his version of owning the struggles. The problem is, I don't think he is capable of it. His run game has no creativity at all, no numbers advantages, no explosive plays. It's like we just run it to try to keep the defense honest.
He’s shown some creativity at times but he just completely gave up on the run by the second quarter. You HAVE to keep pounding it even if you’re only getting 3 ypc.

How do we end up with all these losers with their hands all over our program, I guess I know how, I want to know why? What did we do to deserve this football purgatory that people keep putting us in???

For the most part it’s because academics are making the most important decisions when it should be football people.

The BOR shouldn’t be elected positions and the president of the university should be a jock, not a f*cking dork/dorkess

Nobody cares about school or any other sports even though they like to pretend to

I have to get in the right mindset to forget.....shutout 2nd half vs Colorado...7 points in the 2nd half and OT vs Illinois...shutout 1 st half vs Purdue...shutout 2nd half of Rutgers...7 points vs Indiana....

VS indiana....2nd and 9...we bring haarberg...runs for 8 yards great leave him in there to get the 1st...nope brought in dylan... vanilla hand off stuffed on 3rd ....4th down stuffed....why not leave Haarberg in there? not in the right mindset?

Seriously? He is just now figuring this out? Does this mean that until last week he did not have a mindset to focus on running? But Rhule said we were focused on that. Focused too on being physical. So the OC and head coach have not been on the same page all this time?
He’s just not good enough of an OC to be paired with a defensive oriented HC.

Rhule wants to be elite, then hire an elite OC that can run the entire offense, because this guy is not at that level. Not in the Bigten he is not.

What people aren’t understanding about the Indiana loss is that the signs were already there. Since the Illinois game the offense has been in a linear downward spiral.

40pts against UTEP
21pts Colorado
34pts UNI
24pts Illinois
21 pts Purdue
14pts Rutgers
7pts Indiana

Take away the games against UTEP and UNI, Nebraska is only average 17 points per game against P4 teams. So essentially the defense has to play at an elite level in order to win.

Special teams has been abysmal from start to finish.

Honestly it felt like we had conceded that we can’t run the ball before the game started and it was our game plan just to pass it all over the field.
That was the vibe I got watching live.
Haven’t forced myself to rewatch yet

Satt needs to study all and everything about coach Leach (rip), if that’s what he wants his offense to be. It could work with DR, but he needs some big aggressive bodies at WR that will fight for balls. It’d be fun to see at Nebraska. Not sure Satt is the guy, but it would be an identity that would be exciting to watch. Would certainly be unique in the B1G and maybe give us the advantage we need. We have the QB1 to do it… along with little bro coming down the pike. People like to make Mahomes references… the TTU air raid was his education.

Stoops hitched his wagon to the air raid and it worked out ok for the Sooners.

Just a thought

I just can’t. This is beyond ridiculous.
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F*CK?!!!??

Many analogies could be inserted but the one that came to mind was a car mechanic or salesman:
Customer- “How many miles per gallon would be good for an expensive SUV?”
Professional- “Well I don’t know what that is, but something that ranks anywhere in the bottom half or maybe worst of all of the SUVs, even the cheap ones, would be a good goal to shoot for.”

Or:
"Hey doc, what would be a good blood pressure?"
"I don't really know, but I'm thinking of a number that would put you on the verge of a heart attack within 3 years."

Ill say it again. We can run the ball but the zone read game should be shelved with DR at the helm. I agree that he has to commit and be patient with it.

I think we need to get under center from time to time and run down hill. Not everything has to be zone blocked. Gap scheme some of it too.

I know popular opinion is that we are worthless at every position outside of QB, but I don't believe that to be entirely true. I think we just need to focus in on what our current players can do best. That remains to be seen, but i know the zone read game with DR is not the answer.
100%. Need to be under center with DR, running traditional play action when we pass on 1st and 2nd downs and 3rd and short situations.

To be fair, 4th down wasn't stuffed. Dowdell fumbled a yard past what he needed.

I think the coaches need to start a different running back every game and give them by far the lion's share of the carries until somebody steps up. Sometimes I don't think they roll with any of them long enough to get into a rhythm, and I believe that can be very important for RB's.

Just my opinion... And I don't think it can be any worse.

GBR

I think the biggest problem is how large and complicated his playbook is. Every QB seems to struggle with it. He was forced to simplify it towards the end of his time with South Carolina but even then Spencer Rattler only threw 19 TDs that year. He appears to be one of those types that love things being complicated for the sake of being complicated and that's why our offense is so dysfunctional. Forcing him to call more run plays isn't going to help any so nothing will change until we find a new OC. This is why South Carolina fans were so happy he was gone and tried to warn us.

This is truly incompetence and startling that he is almost making 1.5 million/year. Rhule needs to wake the F up or he will go the way of Pelini, Callahan and Frost and never have a big time gig again. Formula is SIMPLE- hire the BEST asssistants (NOT FRIENDS) and play/ work / recruit physicality and line dominance

It is like, hire your friends, I get it, but only if they are the freaking best at what they do.

Honestly, I've learned that hiring friends is a bad idea. Hire people you've never met before. People you can be objective about and that you feel comfortable firing if necessary. Good employees often become friends in time. But keep that division in place.

I teach seniors and tell them "When picking your roommates, don't pick your best friend, pick someone you sort of know, it will work out better."

I think it is probably pretty similar with jobs.

Now, of course sometimes it does work out but we are talking about million dollar jobs based with very obvious results.

I don't mind hiring a friend or two in an organization like that. Sometimes you need someone who has your back early on. Your friend pays your generous job offer back by excelling at his job and not causing you problems. The trust you show in your friend is a two way street.

You talk constantly about being aggressive, running the football all things that Paterno and TO did with much success.

Then the bell rings and you turn into Mike Leach.
Thats an insult to the pirate. At least he called pass plays that were quicker developing and didn't require a good run game to be working!

No, if Satterfield needs to reinvent himself, he needs to do that somewhere else. F this learning on the job nonsense

Yep. You hire the best that you can. Hiring only people you're comfortable with CAN be a sign of lack of confidence and you just want yes people

I found it interesting that Cignetti has been with a lot of his guys for about 10 years. For some reason, Rhule has latched on to some losers. It’s kind of surprising he’s had any kind of success.

He's also never been fired??

That’s what I’ve seen in my professional career. Almost entirely hiring strangers, but having the actual skills we need. They might even have an accent and be from a different country. You find the best people by not putting dumb restrictions on who you can hire.

But coaches apparently are incapable of working with new people. By the time they become HC, they can only hire from the pool of people they have actually worked with in the past.

I get it, but if he’s lost, maybe this could pan out to be what he actually wants this offense to be. Wish I were in a 1.4M a year trying to figure it out on the job, but it’s where we are at this point, right? Message board… just spitballing.
