Purdue week PC notes-Updated depth chart

Whatever needs to be done to keep White in the fold -- needs to be done.

The turnaround is unbelievable.
100% agree. Retaining Tony White is going to be bigger than any NIL move the team could possibly make this offseason. Absolutely HAS to happen, whatever it takes.

It’s hard to believe that only a year ago, our guys were getting shredded by Georgia Southern. I will never forget the hopelessness of that game. After that first drive, I never had any sense that they’d get a stop, or that someone would step up and make a big play. And sure enough, they never did. A defense as soft as cream cheese, and as bland as cottage.

Now? We haven’t had a defense hitting like this since the Suh era, and that’s without a generational talent suiting up. It’s impossible to overstate the turnaround that Coach White has orchestrated on his side of the ball. We won’t be able to keep him forever, but after everything this program has been through and at this stage in the rebuilding process? We can’t afford to have him be one and done.

Coach Matt Rhule Purdue Press Conference Notes -Did not attend the #Husker volleyball, but commends their grit and hopes to match their intensity -Team is pretty beat up -Ethan Piper (knee), Turner Corcoran (foot) out for the season -Nouredin Nouili out for two weeks or so -Billy Kemp will be out for multiple weeks with MCL sprain -Tommi Hill is day to day -Ty Robinson was absolutely dominant last Saturday -Teddy Prochazka is a starter now, he's OOU (one of us) -When we walk out on Saturday, all but two guys will be underclassmen -Young guys when given a chance are making plays -Players careers always come first when talking about redshirts -Mentions James Williams on the DL -Jacob Hood is back and playing -Our older players fight for us, but the young guys are stepping up with the injuries -Don't care about the score, but rather cares about the execution -Need to grow up on offense this week in terms of taking care of the ball -Purdue is going to come after you defensively -We rushed on offense, causing us to leave too many open plays on the field -Lots of plays we should absolutely hit -Nick Henrich has been a little bit banged up, knee then shoulder -Ben Scott is healthy, expect him to play -Turner Corcoran and Ethan Piper have already started coaching the young guys -Jaidyn Doss will start in the slot -Going with a 5 man rush allowed 5 one on ones, suggested by Coach Coop and Tony White adopted is -When you have so many inside backers you can trust, they can play fast -Blaise Gunnerson is making big jumps, and finding his confidence -Purdue QB Hudson Card is athletic, tough to run down -Sign stealing happens every game. This is why we should have mics in the helmets -Completely different than filming someones signs -Not going to comment on Michigan potentially stealing signs from Nebraska -last week was by far Ty Robinson's best game -RB room will continue to be by committee pending a good week of practice and ball security -Similar defense to Illinois (Purdue HC previously Illinois DC) -NFL scouts want to know about a players character, practice habits, learning habits, etc. -Coach Rhule has to be completely honest to the scouts -One scout called Nebraska the 2nd hardest practicing team he's seen -University of Georgia is the 1st hardest, "we'll catch them" -Visitor side is a real disadvantage in sign stealing and the sun -"Don't change anything that Tom Osborne did" -Trev is always looking ahead for things that can help us win -Doesn't worry about things he can't control
Great breakdown. Love to see the underclassmen stepping up.

DC Tony White Purdue Press Conference Notes -Coach Rhule suggested to Tony and Terrance that James Williams should play -Scout team is fired up now that they see it's possible to move to a starting role -DL is one of the best in the country -Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher are causing major disruptions -Our success with run defense starts with them -Purdue WR Elijah Canion is someone to watch out for -Purdue QB Hudson Card is athletic -Purdue air raid also incorporates run game, not a true air raid -Emphasis on watching everything in practice, including the scout team -Never experienced moving guys around like Coach Rhule does mid season -Coach Rhule is always talking about being prepared, mentions Justin Evans-Jenkins moving from guard to center mid game -Isaac Gifford made the play of the game with his open field tackle on the screen -Our defense wouldn't be as good without the current DNA of our offense, primarily with the rushing attack -Tommi Hill has always had skill, his maturity is what has really developed -His confidence has grown thanks to Coach Evan Cooper -Rush defense is giving up 2.5 YPC, though Coach White is not concerned about numbers until the end of the season -Marques Buford is talented, twitchy, and a vet - "he's a ball guy" -Buford is taking more and more reps -Coach Coop is very good at cross training

Interesting that he only mentions one WR. A WR that has played 3 games and has 1 catch and is probably 6th on the depth chart.

Who here thinks they should just keep Nash on the field and have him play OL and DL?

JASON MACIEJCZAK is listed as DL right now but hasn’t played. May need to start repping him on OL. I know they were fighting over him pre-season.

It's really encouraging when you see the team getting wins and seeing how many young players are not only playing but contributing. Great way to build depth and experience for future seasons but with their play, it hasn't been at the expense of the team's success while going through growing pains (especially on offense).

Also been super impressed at the success they've had playing true freshmen from a shortened recruiting cycle (given the hire date). That gives me hope that given a longer evaluation period that they can find more guys who can play at this level and hopefully early.

Remember watching that play and commenting on what a terrible job/effort the OL I think 72 for NW did on that play, all he needed to do was seal the edge and he did nothing. Was obviously good for us.
I happened to hear that play on the radio at the time and they acted like it was going to go for a TD! Then I see it now and it is like, oh, NW did not really much blocking.

Coach Matt Rhule Purdue Press Conference Notes -Thank goodness Justin Evans-Jenkins was prepared last week -Other guys need to be prepared as well -Likes to build a connection with the scout team guys and coach them hands on -Need to figure out what you have when you don't have 5 recruits at your disposal -James Williams has "terrorized" us on the training team with his pass rush -James has earned his way into this job -Jeremiah Charles and Bryce Turner will practice both corner and receiver -Purdue has dynamic kickoff and punt return teams -Special teams will be really vital this week -Alex Bullock will return punts -Josh Fleeks will return kicks -Ty Hahn "singlehandedly" effected the game last week with a couple blocks -Thought the defense played good, but rush defense and shutting them out in the 4th quarter wasn't to our standard -Wants players to understand that when we win we're allowed to be happy, but need to still be conscious of playing to our standard -Our turnover margin is -8 and we're 4-3 - "That's stupid" -Purdue's offense is scary -Their defense is going to play man, pressure us, blitz us -Only 29 days left in the season - "what can't we do for 29 days"
