Portal time. NU and others

According to 247, Fields' only other offers out of high school were Arkansas State, Abilene Christian, New Mexico State and North Texas. The "diamond in the rough" players rarely pan out.

Reminds me of Mason Wald, people creamed themselves over his highlight tape, but his only other offer was from Samford. There was a reason for that.

YES!!!!

Oh my god!

"Look how hard he hits" stuff like that. Did he ever make it/play at NU?

In 2023, more than 1,000 players entered the portal during the spring window. The number is expected to grow in 2024. Initially the NCAA set the spring transfer window to open May 1, but later amended it to trigger in April. The transfer portal window officially opened Tuesday morning and It will run for two weeks.

Rhule said this about the portal: "We've had players on our team already have people from other teams contact them. They'll walk in and say, 'Coach, look at this.' Show us a text message ... It's a sad state of college football."

So basically some unethical coaches now are recruiting existing players they covet to convince them to enter the portal and come play for them. And some of them probably are dangling big NIL deals behind the scenes as enticements.

Anyone surprised? We knew when started this it would be the wild Wild West.

The interesting part, to me, is we have no problems when a company contacts us about an opportunity but we don’t like it when it’s a kid on our college team.

Who is to blame? And to make it even crazier, if they turn pro, some might have to take pay cuts and actually perform to keep the money and negotiate new contracts. Weird world

It’s the right analogy, and the solution is the same. If you want to keep your talent, develop a good culture, make individuals feel valued, provide opportunity for their career growth, and don’t skimp on pay.

So post spring game, Ryan Day appears to be having some conversations with some players who won’t be sniffing the 2 deeps anytime soon. Going to predict at least 1 of their QB’s hits the portal next 24 hours. Will Howard maybe?
will howard? he's their starter.

The reason Prime will never have a championship team in a big conference is because he's not capable of creating a good team culture that will keep players in place during these days of portal transfers. He will always attract many star players with his bling and big talk but many of them then will never stick around for their entire career.

The OL in particular is illustrative of that. He basically kicked last years OL players off the team instead of working to develop them and then recruited "new blood" from the portal. But some OL players already are entering the portal after Spring practice. You can't build an effective OL at the college level with such constant turnover.
