Portal QB's

I suspect he'd love to grab one or two...but you just heard him state we ain't spending what it's going to take to get a difference maker....and i'm not complaining...'It is what it is".
I would argue spending 1.5 mil to get an above average QB would be a wise investment. Not many ways that you can reasonably expect to positively impact your future trajectory with such a simple proposition. Compare to it to the cost of firing a coaching staff, or dwindling fan engagement.

The catch is: you need to actually hit. Not another Sims.

Curious how the rest of the locker room would react if we coughed up 1.5 million dollars for one player and he rolled in there and was obviously promised the starting job to go along with. I just question how well that's gonna go over. One of the many reasons I hate the portal.

I know other programs are going to do it....and I know they'll have to deal with the same issues. But a lot of those programs are going to have several high-end players already cashing checks, so it's going to be easier to weave a high dollar guy in with other high dollar guys.
Well I’d be curious how they’d feel about another 7 loss season too…

I think Rhule must do everything he can to get a competent quarterback in by spring practice. If not, it will be just another year of us bickering every week about why the Huskers still manage to find a stupid way to lose. With next year's schedule it maybe even harder to eke out 5 wins with what we now have at quarterback. I saw an article this evening where Rhule stated a top quarterback is costing about $1.5 to $2 million dollars. I am not sure if he Is he challenging us fans and the university to come up with the money or simply throwing in the towel and not even trying to land one.

I wondered the same thing. Seemed almost strategic?

Exactly this. Stop the futile search for a home-run quarterback, and fix the porous offensive line. The current line is a career-killer for quarterbacks.
Not true. Stop exposing yourself as someone who doesn’t understand football.

He was describing the current landscape of college football so people have some context if we don't land a top 10 portal QB. He laid out his alternative plan to coach up current QBs or a similar transfer QB, noting it is harder, but also that there can be benefits for team morale and cohesiveness in doing so, as long as you pay market to retain your guys once they develop.

Here is my argument for the Huskers to go out and get a topflight, competent quarterback. Washington, Oregon, Texas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, LSU, ND and Oregon State (there maybe more). 2 things these teams have in common. They spent money for a transfer portal quarterback and they are in the Top 25.

I thinks it's crazy not to spend on the front end to benefit on the back end. Get the players here to win with nil. String a few winning seasons together and recruiting gets a little easier. Then you can possibly be an attractive destination for a big time QB out of highschool.

If a donor makes a donation and says he wants to go to the stadium, then it needs to go to the stadium. I don't see how you're going to turn that money down if you're Trev. IE-different bucket.

You all the donor if he wants his name on the stadium, he can give us $2 million for a QB.

I think the landscape of college football has changed. Quality players at all positions are going to cost schools money. It is going to be up to the Nebraska's leaders to decide if they really want to win football and basketball games. If they do it will require spending money on players. If they choose not to pay the big bucks, I think Nebraska will continue to trudge along as they have at being a below .500 team.

They better make the right decision to suit the current environment and quickly because more of the same is not gonna cut it. People below the age of 25 do not care about Nebraska athletics. The athletic department better give them a reason to care in light of how much money the football program brings in. Do they really want to die a slow death, because it’ll be that much harder to turn it around.

It would be nice to at least watch a December Husker football game with my kids. My one elementary aged kid said he didn't even know the Huskers could play after the Iowa game. Ridiculous.

Maybe I've just become an old "Get off My Lawn" type of guy. I love college football season. I love putting out my Nebraska flag every Saturday in the fall. I can't do it without yelling out proudly, "Go Big Red". I hold onto every play. I text a friend and Husker fan that I have known since I was 12 years-old throughout the games. I was at Boulder for the CU game and I watched every second of the rest of the games. I prefer to watch the games alone, so I am not distracted. I used to watch every game at least 2 times and sometimes more. Now, I only rewatch the wins. I cannot take re-watching the screw-ups. More often than not I do not get to ring old, large, school bell in our backyard because the Huskers have failed to win. On those rare occasions I get to I am ducking and diving away from our Llewellin Setter who insists on playing linebacker opposite of me as I recreate runs by Rozier or Burkhead on my way to the bell.

It has grown tiresome attempting to define what has gone wrong once again to my Huskers. Everyone and I mean everyone knows I am a Husker fan. Even the manager of the grocery store with the best beer selection in town knows it. He surprised me a few years ago with a little wind-up Husker player. After the Iowa loss I probably got sympathetic texts from 12 friends. Here what is most remarkable about these texts. A good amount of them come from people who are not even sports fans. They just know how much I love the Huskers.

Life does go on. The dog and I got into huge covey of quail yesterday and I managed to pick off a couple of them. The dog work was wonderful, the shooting not so much. He did a great job of pinning two pheasants along a ditch bank. Sadly, they were both hens. Now it is snowing outside. Our local ski hill opened up one run last weekend, but I put-up Christmas lights instead. Skiing the "White Ribbon of Death" on manmade snow is something I can easily miss. Soon the hill will be open every day and be completely covered in snow. I will make the daily 13-mile trek up the mountain. Another new season begins.

Exactly. Many under that age actually seem to WANT to care. But it's hard when the glory days are past and current team doesn't even remotely resemble what we once had.

A decent portal QB could get us back to respectability at least. Worth every million - unless we're content with being relegated to the has been tier of cfb...

Not true, my 15 year old cares a lot about NU athletics, and he grew up in Colorado.

If Rhule is worried about paying the big bucks for a big name QB, what about taking a more measured shot with a guy who costs less and has a chance to be pretty good? Guys like the kid from NC State who’s entering, he is just a RS Frosh and beat Clemson and Miami.
Anything can happen but he seems like the type we may want to go after if we can’t land a big dog.

And if you think it’s crazy now, wait until Monday when all the guys that have games this weekend and are non grad transfers start to enter the portal. I bet that by end of December, Bama, tOSU, Texas, UGA, Oregon lose about 7 QBs between them
