had the misfortune of watching him play in person. he makes Chubba look like Trevor Lawrence.
They should start a transfer portal for families. Lots of scenarios. Maybe like a middle child looking to be the youngest or something.
If that's the case, he should stay with his dad because that's his best chance of playing.
As of now over 2,000 players nationwide have entered the transfer portal, with the final tally possibly exceeding 3,000 transfers.
I'd like Nebraska to go after him if he's not gonna be on Duke. He's a stud.
Mickey can out recruit everyone that is on the current staff.
The portal is a great representation of todays youth and our country’s future work force. A lot of bad decisions being made by some of these players entering. For every Bo Nix/Michael Penix story there will be a 100 Arik Gilbert’s (minus the criminal part hopefully). I like the portal for these small school players that were under recruited and developed into big time players looking to showcase their talent but man I think the portal is going to really wreck some of these guys futures. There’s nothing wrong with moving on to another place if your buried on a depth chart and want to play but the guys who are constantly on the move are going to have a hard time later in life staying the course when shit hits the fan and fighting through to achieve their goals. Imagine if Gilbert just stays at LSU and has marginal success, gets an education and he’s on an nfl roster right now, assuming that mentally he was fine.
Quite the contrary, the portal is an embarrassment of riches and players are looking to get compensated what they're worth. On3 has portal transfer rankings, and at each and every one of the offensive positions, I see at least 20 guys who are better than what is on our roster. We can get interest from these top 20 players if we're willing to pay market value for their services. That's why we're now in a top position to land McCord because we've shown we're willing to compensate him fairly. There's no reason why we shouldn't be going after top 20, or even top 10, guys at other positions either. I'm not saying we need to get into ridiculous bidding wars, but there's a path where if we're willing to pay reasonable and fair market value for guys from the transfer portal, we could be looking at competing for a top seed in a playoff berth... and that could happen by next season.
How much of McCords success at OSU was due to talent? Or was he getting excellent coaching from a top program to maximize his talent, to go with playing with some of the best players in college football. Hope he comes here and tears it up, but I expect a drop-off in performance regardless of where he goes. Also, I see qb's as the exception to the rule. Using Jeff Sims as an example, why is this guy insistent on being a quarterback? Use your physical gifts, change positions and develop into a football player with a staff willing to help young men on and off the field.
I don't think McCord winds up here BUT regardless of where he goes I think he is a proven commodity. You're not a former 5 star and a 2 year starter winning games at OSU without having proven talent.

He got Palmer here and he got the running back who transferred to Miami. I will take more players like those two (and throw in Casey) every day of the week.
Ajay Allen was here because of Applewhite not Mickey. He would have been at TCU if Applewhite was still there.
You used "we" multiple times and it can refer to various groups. Who is supplying the money for these players because it isn't a "we" for me, it is a they or them. Another we is the University who cannot pay kids directly as far as I know. Lots of "we" referrals without stating who "we" actually is.
The RB transfer followed our RB coach to NU.
You are right, but I would still take Mickey getting a player of the caliber of Palmer every year. Louisiana is a hot area for football. I think Mickey has great connections with the coaches and player there.
I also must add I think Mickey only has himself to blame for his exit from the football team.
So Mickey brought in a player that he was coaching at LSU and the son of a good friend that was pushed out the door at Texas. In other words, he didn’t really recruit anyone to Nebraska. His recruiting rep was gained at LSU and it didn’t produce anything at Nebraska for HS recruits.
Little birdie told me $6-$8 million. It's more than enough to get some good players in here and earn a playoff spot. **** a bowl game, time to start raising the expectations again where they belong.
Very true. However, what HS players did he recruit to Nebraska? DeColdest? Who else? And we have people complaining about our current staff’s recruiting, who haven’t been here very long. People praising Mickey for similar to worse results at Nebraska.
Mickey was good but I don't think he's quite the legend people have made him out to be. My problem was he was always going to leave. His window was shrinking and he was relatively old. And he was recruiting a bunch of southern players who had no interest in being here other than Mickey. Kind of like Ajay Allen and Applewhite. It's fine if a coach will stick around. Not so great if they have one foot out the door.
Last year Ryan Day said it would cost $13M just for OSU to keep their roster in tact.
