OT-Bourbon drinkers?

It's impossible to find in Lincoln. Every place I shop says they get limited bottles in and they are gone in a day. I ordered mine online.
Before the last dinner party I had with ONE other bourbon drinker in attendance, I had 3 bottles in the cupboard..... He had done the bourbon tour and proceeded to tell me everything I already knew about their distillery and then he kept mispronouncing Blanton. Oh well. He did bring a nice bottle of 2014 Nickle and Nickle cabernet.

How do you mispronounce Blanton?

Yeah I can't remember exactly what he said but I think it was Bannon or Bunnon or something like that. By the time that evening was over I don't think I could pronounce my own name.... It was kind of funny because he's one of those guys who is kind of a liquor and wine snob who likes to talk about his expensive and expansive liquor collection. I enjoy people talking about the bourbon tour because it sounds like something I would like to do some day BUT if you're going to drop names, make sure you know what the names are.

My expansive not expensive collection consists today of the following:
Old Forester 100
Old Grandad BIB
Evan Williams BIB
Old Grandad 114
Early Times BIB

Sort of on topic but not really.

Years ago when I bought my first house I got one of those huge spice jars but instead of filling it with sugar or something like that, I bought a ton of different shooters and filled it up.

Let it sit on the counter and when friends would come we would try out different ones.

One ironic part about that, unless it's changed, Buffalo Trace (who makes Blantons) isn't actually on the Bourbon Trail. Definitely worth checking out regardless, though. We haven't hit all the distilleries on the trail, we've made it to Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, and Four Roses. Plus Buffalo Trace and also Blaum Brothers here in IL. Drove by Jim Beam on the way to Maker's but didn't bother to stop since we weren't aiming for doing the whole trail at that time.

Old Grandad = worst whiskey in my collection
It's not my favorite, but the bottle we got for my father-in-law when he became a grandfather for the first time (obvious connection there, haha) wasn't too bad. Not my favorite by a long shot either, though.

I want to resurrect this as I have a question for everyone. What are your thoughts on Four Roses small batch select? A great friend gifted me a bottle this morning. I haven’t tried it yet as I’m at work but definitely will sample it tonight.

It's not my cup of tea (or bourbon!), but my father in law really likes it. I tried it when I went to their distillery. It's not bad, just not among my favorites. We bought a bottle of it and a branded highball glass for my FIL as a gift while we were there.

I'd put it this way, I wouldn't buy a bottle myself but I'd be happy to receive one.

I'll admit, part of it for me may just be some lingering bias from when they were basically making cheap, rotgut crap and trying to fly on their name. I wasn't even old enough to drink at that time, haha, but that reputation has taken awhile to overcome.

There's better stuff out there. A lot of my none whiskey nerd friends really like it, and while four roses isnt bad, as soon as I give them a little of balcones or belle mead or knob cask, etc. they usually then understand that four roses is simply a good value whisky and nothing more. Personally as far as cheap bourbon I like makers and buffalo trace more than four roses

It's OK. I'll pretty much leave it at that. You put it in front of me, I'll enjoy it. Never met a _______ (fill in the blank) that I didn't like.

I had a glass in Cambridge Mass a month or so ago. It was the best they had and I thought it tasted pretty darned good. I'm not a bourbon snob but I know a good one when I taste it but so much of how something tastes is the situation and mood you're in. Nothing wrong with Four Roses.

I just remembered. I don't have any Old Forester in my collection. Anyone have a recommendation in the $50-$60 range?
Um about liquor collection thing. I don't have stuff long enough for it to be considered "collected". It's "consumed" unless I have a double of something.

I'm a beer guy. If I do drink liquor, it's usually a quarter shot at a time
I enjoy a nice glass (several shots) of good bourbon over one large ice cube from about October to April. After that it goes to vodka or gin and tonics in warmer weather. IF somebody twists my arm I'll drink a little bourbon in the summer though..... I can't drink beer though anymore due to an allergy to hops I think.

I was at total wine today and forgot to check out their high end offerings. I'm going to have to pass on that one. 😂

Blantons is my go to. (Also, helps that I work for the distributor that carries it.)
Blanton's is good, but Angel's Envy is better tasting IMO. Blanton's marketing with the horse corks with the letters to form a horses stride is pretty cool though

The problem with drinking good bourbon is that the first glass tastes good....and then it just keeps tasting better. You can get really messed up in a hurry. I had a glass of Blanton at the Loose Goose in Austin TX last weekend to top off the night. I had been drinking Vodka tonics and a little Pinot with dinner and it was a nice top off. It was kind of funny. They had their higher end bourbons and scotches on a shelf about 8 feet in the air. The girl had to climb on the counter to get it down. The other people at the bar looked at me like I was from Mars.
