NIL Strikes Again

...assuming this is true, that an assistant coach offered him 6 figures to transfer there, does that sound right to anyone? Can coaches do that? I'm just not sure i'm buying that version....and "Up to 100K ..." leaves so many shades of doubt here.

My dad, who oozes integrity and faith and doesn't have a manipulative bone in his body and is the kind of dad everyone should have and everyone loves, never would have let me do what you are suggesting, and I appreciate him for that more and more the older I get. If yours would teach you to do what this kid did, we just live in different zip codes when it comes to your word and integrity and thinking of how your decision affects others. That's fine, everyone mileage on this differs, just sharing how I feel about it.
Get off your high horse. This whole NIL thing is stupid in it's current format, but cat's out of the bag now. It's his business not yours. I bet you love telling people how they should live

And yes I was raised the same as you. Different times now. Way too much money involved, just like actors, politics, CEO's.

That came from the players camp ( assistant coach deal) It seems the more that comes out on this deal. The family side is getting a little harder to buy.

yeah IDK, looks really odd and plenty of doubt to go around, but i know from my job as a claim adjuster, you best be real careful quoting any dollar amounts, because no matter how many disclaimers you wrap it in, people only remember the highest number you ever spoke.

Love that guy...where did he end up? Is that a podcast? Loved listening to him
Bill Simmons hired him

Yep, that’s his podcast. Does it 3x per week.

Does a bunch of other stuff for The Ringer, too. Especially during basketball season

I agree I am a fan and have been for a long time

It seems plausible to me, especially if he thought he had somebody he trusted. He was going from 0 to 100. That’s pretty enticing. Looks like the kid awoke to the realities of big business.

You are correct. Goes that way in a lot of things, people will only remember the best figure for them.

If you like him, you’d love his podcast

ESPN also boned Simmons so they don’t pull many punches when they start talking about their time there

I had no idea!! Loved him to.

I've never listened to a podcast and to be honest i'd have to google how to even do it.
Download the Apple podcast app or Spotify - your preference, both free and so is the show

Once you have that just search Russillo in there and press the button to subscribe. All episodes will be instantly available to you and you’ll have the new ones the second they come out

It’s easy I can help more if needed

He’s been doing the show there for a couple years now

Simmons has tons of stuff available, too. His podcast is also good.

By the way I remember a bunch of posts about this kid in the offseason before DR announced

Thought he’d be a good fit here at the time, he was great at Holy Cross and UNLV is 3-0, after all

Rewatchables is funny.

Simmons old Sports Guy column used to be great, I loved reading those.

Assistant coach was like, “I’ve talked to my guys. I am sure we can get you at least $100,000, maybe more. let’s get those transfer paper signed and get you fitted. This is gonna be great.!”

Oh yeah, about that…

I've yet to see any evidence an asst coach said he could get him 100K ...if it happened, lets see it. Email, text, something? Cause it looks like to me the kid has an inflated sense of self worth ater starting 3-0, and the fact his H.C. is so quiet, and now if teammates are glad he's gone (as posted above)??

...if I am wrong I will admit it and do it without any disclaimers

I love the Rewatchables podcast. It’s pretty much the only pod I look forward to. Their Pulp Fiction episodes not too long ago were great.

I just made that up. Clearly, nothing was in writing though. I feel like we’ve come along way with this story since this morning.

He didn’t really quit. He has decided to redshirt.

I say good on him for calling them out for failing to honor their promises, especially when you hold up your end of the bargain by signing with that school. Whoever promised that money is the villain here.
That's still quitting on the team. All he is doing is saving his year of eligibility for the next bidder but still going to school on a free scholarship. Basically giving the school and teammates the middle finger based on what an outside agency is guilty of.

...that's how you read that huh?
I read it the same way. When PR comes out like that every word is specific. The fact that worded it that allows them in the future to acknowledge something was said but not finalized and signed. This way they aren’t lying in the press release because it wasn’t a signed agreement. Doesn’t mean they didn’t tell him what it was going to be.
