Nebraska graduating athletes at an 88% clip

Yeah the purpose of college is to get it's fans something to brag about.

Graduation isn't an end all be all but the players should be graduating and graduating at a level much higher than the student body overall is a good thing.

And yes, I'd love to see the teams, all of them winning at 88%+ in a heartbeat.

Keep forgetting fan is short from fanatic.

If graduation rates / high academics are what matters to you must when following a team, follow IVY league sports.
I am just pointing out something. Something the bloners (h3) pointed to when trying to defend Blo.
But yes, now academics shouldn't matter, because they are doing better than any point in which Osborne was A.D. Did I do that right?

Weren't these graduates all brought in by Bo? Didn't he make the point of saying he was trying to bring in quality people? This can still be a good reflection on Mike too but doesn't Bo deserve some credit?

The 88% is all athletes, not just football.

How many athletes graduated and how many were football players. Determine that number, then you all can get on Pelini's phallus.

Try and keep up. We know you have trouble with reading comprehension. 88% across all sports mr/mrs/whatever you claim to be today.

I am not saying they should not matter but that should not be the only reason a coach should be retained. How many of Miles recruits will graduate at UNL? Trick question cause most of them have transferred. So Miles rate will be very low, correct? How many guys that actually played for Miles graduate @ UNL?

And to respond to your nice little Dr Tom jab, he graduated guys and won championships. So that's the bar. Anything less is below the bar set by Dr Tom. It's that simple. And as Toms wife pointed out, a lot of those football players are from Bo & he liked "quality people" on his team. But that was his downfall @ NU. Jay Guy was a quality kid.

Also, keep in mind, Quality kid does not always = intelligence. (example:Nate Gerry). Being a thug doesn't always = being stupid (example: L.P.).

Miles has actually increased his teams APR from 935 to 985. There is zero reason to be so butthurt about my Osborne "jab". We actually agree, making academics a focal point (like the bloners did for blo) when that is all they have left to defend a guy that hated the place he coached, is pretty pointless. But to attack and ignore it now is extremely hypocritical.

Dennis LeBlanc is easily the most unsung hero in the Athletic Dept. If there is anyone better than Dennis at his job description in Power 5 conference school I would like to see it.

Some people are only happy when they can get in a Dr Tom jab in from time to time ya know.

May 10th article in the Omaha Paper states that Nebraska's APR has declined the past two years in a row. Nebraska is now 8th in the B10 now. This isn't good. Nathan Gerry didn't get to play in the bowl game this year because he failed his classes because he didn't go to class. That hurt the team. I remember Bo had coaches go to classes and check on attendance. Bo, as an academic All American believed in academics. The coach sets the standard. Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, etc can win on the field and the classroom, why not Nebraska too? 12% represents 10 individuals not passing. That's 12 individuals who received a free education without graduating.

I would venture to say a good portion of the 88% that got their degree did not get a free education. Most of the athletes in a college campus are not getting a full ride athletic scholarship.

Secondly I tend to focus on the bigger pct of athletes that did get a degree many of whom would have never gone to college, if not for the scholarship, full or partial.

Then again I'm not the type that gets angry over someone not taking advantage of the scholarship. You can only provide the opportunity, they have to want to take advantage of the opportunity.
