Ne-Bracketology

The B1G must be lowly regarded, the Big 12 is projected to get in close to 80 percent of their league. Nebraska deserves to get in over Texas IMO. 13-5 in a power conference should be enough.

Having spent way too much time watching basketball over the last 4 weeks NU is a better basketball team than almost every team in the final 8 in and the last 4 out. And those teams that I can't say we are better than, like Louisville, we would still have a good game with. Yeah, I'm biased, but biases can be set aside. It is unfortunate that everything is based on "metrics" (the stupidest management word ever coined) rather than an eyeball test.

I agree that if the Huskers don't get in, there will be several at-large teams selected that NU would likely beat. I get why the Huskers' resume is thin, but it's nauseating to listen to the ESPN talking heads argue over whether the ACC will get 11 teams in or "only" 10, and to hear them gush over Syracuse for beating an awful Wake Forest team that's lost to the likes of Liberty, Drake and Georgia Southern.

Washington probably wasn't getting in anyway, but they just lost in OT to Oregon State. That should certainly take the Huskies out of the picture.

Marquette leading DePaul late, but it's a tight game. A win by the Blue Demons would finish off Marquette.

So Texas scrapes by the worst team in the conference - a game that basically they had to win to stay in consideration. They win and now the announcers say “they won’t hold a loss to Texas Tech against them, so now they’re playing for seeding”.

This is the exact garbage in the B1G. If Nebraska had gotten a win over Iowa, everyone would say it was a meaningless win.

There is so much garbage being spoken about teams and our fans buy it all.

Eh, DePaul misses the game winner with :01 left, so Marquette advances. I still don't think Marquette gets in unless they beat Villanova tomorrow, but it would have been nice to see them knocked out of the conversation tonight.

Especially after last year when after the first 2 games 90% of the ACC teams were already out of the tournament. Short memory.

The committee stated quadrant wins are most important; bubble teams ranked by this notion (Q1 wins, Q2 wins, bad loss):

Oklahoma State (6,4,0)
Oklahoma (6,3,0)
Texas (5,2,0)
Baylor (4,3,0)
Alabama (4,6,1)
Kansas State (3,3,0)
USC (4,4,1)
UCLA (3,5,2)
Syracuse (3,3,2)
Louisville (3,3,2)
Marquette(3,4,2)
Notre Dame(2,5,3)
Penn State(3,2,3)
Boise(1,2,2)
Nebraska(1,1,1)

*Q1 win = Home win vs RPI 1-30, neutral win 1-50, away win 1-75
*Q2 win = home win vs RPI 31-75, neutral win 51-100, away 76-135

Where did the committee state this? The head of the committee lives in Omaha and has been on the radio multiple times and has said no such thing.

If Quad 1 wins carry the day, NU is screwed. I think even the most optimistic posters here would agree on that.

I don't think the Huskers get in, but the committee can be unpredictable at times and stranger things have happened.

One other question how much is the committee going to view our last game that we didn't even show up for? The way we played sure isn't going to help persuade their minds.

Maybe the memory of that game has faded a bit with the other conference tournaments getting full attention.

Nebraska needs the committee to view the first win vs Minnesota as a Q1...which they might. Still might not be enough tho

There are many articles out there saying quadrants are the focus moving forward.

“The committee’s decision to focus on, for example, Q1 or Q2 wins, or Quadrant 4 losses, is a direct result of its desire to place greater emphasis on winning away from home, and to demonstrate how difficult it is to earn those wins,” said Dan Gavitt, the NCAA’s senior vice president of basketball.

If NU does get in, they would probably have to play in a play in game, so my question would be SHOULD a win on a Tuesday play in game count as Nebraska's first NCAA tournament win?

Minnesota had 1 Q1 and 1 Q2 win in the non-con, both against bubble teams. Even if you ignore conference games, that is not a Q1 win, especially at home, and the committee is not going to move a Q4 win to Q1.

That's great, but nowhere in that post does it say that the committee states the Quad system is MOST IMPORTANT. And again, that's not even close to what the Head of the Committee has been preaching when getting interviewed on the local radio.

The quality wins thing has become self-perpetuating. A few teams have figured out how to game the RPI (Nebraska not one of them, obviously). So you get several teams from the Big 12 and SEC that landed in the top 50 and they keep playing each other, pumping up each other’s quality win total.

It’s also misleading to look at a SOS of 20 and one of 100 and conclude one is 5 times worse than the other. The difference is not great and so often is driven by the worse teams on the schedule. Playing 5 games against RPI 200-250 teams is no more difficult than 5 games against 250-350, but it crippled your RPI.

Tim Miles knows how game the RPI, that's the only reason he got an at-large bid at Colorado State. They've written articles about it: https://www.si.com/more-sports/2012/09/27/schedule-strength.

That's why it's confusing to me why we scheduled some of the worst RPI teams in the nation this year, like Delaware State and Stetson. Had we not scheduled those 2 teams, our RPI would be much higher. It also didn't help our RPI that the Big Ten only scheduled us to play the top teams in the conference only once.

I would say abunch since we were a game of interest as a bubble team. Match that with the fact that most conferences are playing this week, there was a high probability that the committee was watching. Not good news for us imo.

Pretty sure I heard Rasmussen say we would get credit for Minn being good when we played them. Unfortunately, bad losses and the look test are tipping the scales against us

I would say yes. It's part of the tournament

Miles wasn't saddled with Marc Boehm when he was at CSU. Boehm probably figured he'd be vacationing at NU's bowl game anyway, so who cares who the basketball team is playing in December?

Yeah, we can't control what the Big 10 does, but also yes to your nonconference concrrns. Should know from the big 10 what our schedule is going to be when trying to set up non conference schedule

Good article. Either I didn't read it correctly or there is a typo. The article says northern Colorado had an nonconference RPI of 8, but then later says their RPI was 262. Not a big deal, interesting article.

I dont think its even really close ...like there are probably 10 or so teams slotted ahead of Nebraska at this point

Lets get real. Nebraska would be lucky to finish 12th in that league this year.

Maybe, but an Alabama loss would have burst their bubble for good. A lot of the bubble teams had been losing up until Alabama won.

Ok, Pal. Good luck on Sunday, you need it.
I love the guys here that think the crayton AD will help NU in the end. Our own AD has been dead quiet other than "liking this group of kids" on his radio show. Moos knows.
