Matt Rhule Presser 11/14/24

I know it's been a tough couple of weeks, but wow... I hope Rhule sounds a little peppier in practice than he does at this PC.

WTF... the Nebraska media covering the Rhule press conferences are so weak. They're all on their knees bowing down to Rhule. Need a Peter Doocy type asking questions. See if they can get Rhule to lose his shit and throw something and then storm off.

Matt has a ton of "tells." His words do not match his body language.
He's a very unsure guy right now.

Just watch that 8+ minute video and slow it down to 75% and see if his body language matches his words, because they don't.

He does all the classic mannerisms that are pretty easy to read. Purses his lips, shifts from left foot to right foot and back, very steady when he's giving legitimate praise, stays still when he is answering or explaining something easy, says yes while his head is shaking no, shakes his head more pronouncely no as his words are saying yes, looks down at the floor a lot, forces himself to smile when he heaps praise on Dana.

Doesn't give the bubbly "Thanks guys!!" as he heads off the mic.

He obviously feels a ton of pressure.

He looks like an unsure, beaten fighter.

For sure. His PC announcing the change at OC was sketchy. If you watch his hands, at one point he caught himself tapping the sides of the podium. Rhule is in unchartered territory.

Yeah. He's not fooling anyone with that short sleeved hoodie either. He's no Bill Belichick

cruelhalo, to be honest I haven't watched any of his Press conferences for probably a month.

I've seen his confidence drain more and more as the season goes on, I think much of it is that people are now questioning his actual ability to turn this thing around. It's one of those deals where some people no longer buying what he's trying to sell.

I'll watch that now that you've mentioned it.

I DO like Matt, I like him a lot as a guy, he's trying like hell to make it work here, but I think he had no idea the actual meat grinder he was getting into here when things don't go as he planned.

For a guy making a ton of coin, he doesn't look like he's enjoying what he's doing right now, normally you can't get him away from that mic.

He looks like a man who knows his team is going to lose its last 3 games and end 5-7 again. And he knows the shit will hit the fan

I would feel more sorry for Rhule if he had taken the job seriously enough in the beginning and hired the best assistants possible from the rather generous salary pool that was afforded him.

Instead he hired buddies, high school coaching drunks, inexperienced kids, and undisciplined womanizers. He probably believed his own PR that he was a builder of programs, and of course he could do what he did before and get the same results.

What has him rattled is the notion that maybe he is not really a builder of programs. Maybe he now knows he just got lucky with having the right ingredients in the right situation a couple times.

I still think he can get it done. He was pretty unlucky with what happened with Mickey and then Peetz. That whole deal put him behind the 8 ball with his offensive hires. Rumor was that Satt was a couple of guys down the list of OCs that he wanted. Rhule has a lot of the attributes we need. He’s gotta fix his OC. He recruits his ass off and treats people the way Nebraskans want to see. He’s got a good young DC. Now just get the offensive side fixed whether it’s just the OC or others. Sirles said something on the radio about Dana coming in that first week and whacking some guys. I don’t know if he meant players or staff.

I for one am not listening to another word he says until he has this team going to a bowl game.

I'm not sure he gets the job done here.

I think he needs to fire his Oline coach, ST coach, and figure out who is permanent at OC. If Satt is here next year in any form, this guy will never get it done here.

In fact if Satt and coach Raiola are here next year, this HC doesn't really care about the program and is only concerned with someone's feelings.

He's not paid in the tops of the league to care about anyone's feelings.

wow, all you have to do is see his very first answer and pause the video right there.. man, this guy is about as uncomfortable as it gets at a press conference. this is so cringe coming from a head coach.. I just want the guy to go take another job after the season ends. Uggh

I didn't hear Sirles say that, so I'm just speculating here. I doubt it has anything to do with the coaches, cause that would be slap in the face to Matt, since he hired them all. Its obvious Satt isn't in that group, since he is the reason DH is here.

I bet he's talking about mainly WR's and the weak routes then run, their inability to effectively block the perimeter and downfield, and just their lack of effort.

He maybe doesn't like how our RB's block or don't get into the flat for passes, etc. It could be a lot of things. He may wonder why Mazz isn't taking every snap.

It's probably some of the same stuff many of us have been saying about certain player efforts or performance, he just gets to say it to the guy in charge.

Two years ago, when we were gonna run the ball, Benhart had his hand in the dirt and if we were gonna throw, he was in pass pro setup. Maybe DH identified some detail things thats tipping off the defensives as to what is coming, or narrow down to a couple things that are coming. It could be something with the way a player or two align their feet.

He probably recognized, like most of us have, that Fidone just cannot catch that ball and make a smooth transition upfield, I know DH expects those backs and receiver types to catch the ball with his upfield shoulder, and we have guys that rarely ever do that.

Overall, the offense is probably gonna be a cluster, but I do think we'll see some stuff that will give us hope heading into Wisky, which is the game we REALLY need to win.

The really good ones can identify little bitty things that make a lot of differene in a unit.

I did go back and watch that, I watched an 8 min and a 30 min video which contained that 8 minute clip...

I seen a guy who has resigned himself to the fact that this actually happened, and he takes those long breaths in as if to say, "Okay, well there I just said it outloud."

I think there's no doubt the AD got in his ear and said you better get this fixed. JMO

He also needs to hit the portal hard and get a few proven playmakers. .

Does anyone actually think hes going to lead us back to the promised land?
In a conference with OSU, MICH, ORE, PSU, possibly IND, and USC (once they can Riley) along with Wisky, Iowa, Mich St, etc, I don't see it happening.

Other than the non-conference cupcakes, you cannot win in this league being as inconsistent as NU has been in all 3 areas of football.

You don't get to just ignore the inadequacies of your special teams and offensive team for almost the whole year, and still give a pass to the defense, which can play lights out, or sometimes can't stop anyone and get off the field.

You just can't have a ST unit that's in the bottom 3rd of the country statistically and an offense that sits middle of the pack to the bottom 3rd of the country. It just can't work.

It would take an Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, or Nick Saban to come in and clean up this program in 2-3 years. Matt is no Urban Meyer, and the great ones are done coaching.

Pretty much the same feelings.

I know it must be hard for a guy who likes to talk as much as Rhule does, and our fanbase who likes hearing about football as much as we do - for Rhule to learn not to promise much at all when he talks. No more "we had a championship mindset" and "we want other teams to fear us." It doesn't play well when we fall flat on our face.

The fans at the UCLA game got in his ear. The AD didn’t have to.
