I’m 100% positive that guy, like 100% of people who move to alaska, is on the lam
Let me put it this way. Back when I was in the service many moons ago, I was involved in some counter narcotic activities along the US Mexican border. I could write stories where I included multiple events and made it look like it took place on back to back days, or in the same week, when, in reality, the two events were 5 to 6 months apart. I could combine two or three events, and make them into one event. Would that make the events untrue or slightly embellished? If you were not there, how would you know if what I wrote were the actual events or not?
So, while you may have an opinion that the events are greatly embellished, what that doesn’t do is make your opinion valid or correct.
I am sure if I told you some of the stories that happened to me on the border you would think I was lying. And that is fine. You can have that opinion but again, it doesn’t make your opinion right. Because you were not there.
But that is not the movie.
I have no reason to doubt you. Your experiences at the border were what they were. I have read your posts for years. This has nothing to do with your experiences.
This movie is Reality Television with a very strong conspiracy message.
I had a teaching friend move to Alaska to teach...he was not on the lam...

It can be both. Child trafficking is real, a massive underground issue and almost any attention brought to it is a good thing…..and political agendas and undertones can also be present in the film.
I’ll probably watch it at some point, but wouldn’t even considering going to the theatre to see it. I’m looking forward to Mission Impossible and Oppenheimer though. Both look fantastic.

There is no political agenda in the film. Just trying to make people aware of child trafficking, it’s a worldwide problem.

My mom had a shoe string relative back in the 30s who was a little off center. My mom said that there was a rumor that he had touched a local boy inappropriately. They found him hanging from a windmill and nobody thought they needed to investigate how it happened.
Do people really make people aware of something by having them pay to see it in a theater? If awareness was the goal wouldn't it just be released on the internet for free?

You’re trying so hard and I applaud your efforts but you just need to come clean about whatever is getting you to defend a position that isn’t a good one to defend and attack a position that is a morally sound one.

I posted a link with him as the main subject earlier in the thread. The main character is based on a real guy with a real name, yes. No idea if the main child character is the real name but highly doubtful as there could be legal issues there with minor and what not.
Yeah, I mean why do people who work at non-profits need to get paid? If they really cared about their cause they'd do the work for free.
It can be both. I just take exception to people who want to claim the story is greatly embellished when a) they haven't seen the movie or b) cannot produce anything that contradicts the story.
If this story wasn't at least based on a true story, there would be people lined up to say that isn't what happened. If Ballard was making this story so far fetched, there would be someone he ran across that would be telling the world this dude is making this up.
So far the only thing I have seen and read that would discount the accuracy of the story is that Ballard has some sort of affiliation with QAnon. So because he believes there are some conspiracies out there, his story is not to be believed. To that I say, whatever.
Because the school district I work for is located in South Texas, and because of the chances of human trafficking incidents in our area of the country are greater than most, we have a required training specifically on human trafficking. Based on real life events that we have been briefed on in that training and my experiences on the border, I have no reason to believe what is in the movie isn't factual or at worst, slightly embellished to make it a bit more dramatic or perhaps to draw the story out a little longer for the purpose of the movie length or something along those lines.
The guy literally went to a different country to save a kid from child sex trafficking, and saved other kids in the process. That actually happened. That's the main takeaway. That is not embellished at all. I cannot believe you can just shrug that aside.
Quit deflecting. I never said anything bad about the movie. I think people are going a little overboard in making it sound like some kind of holy grail. Nothing wrong with just saying it's a good movie that has a good underlying message. Like say, Saving Private Ryan.
And for curiosities sake, what exactly will you praying for me? Can you pray for me to let laid tonight?
Well for one, Saving Private Ryan was not made to bring awareness to war. There is no doubt the story has some very historically accurate components, it was simply telling a fictional story about trying to get a the 4th brother out of a warzone after his 3 brothers were killed.
Sound of Freedom was made specifically to bring child sex trafficking to the forefront of people's minds.
People are saying that though.
