Game day!! GBR!!

Oh man do I drool over finally having a difference maker at QB. Sims seems to be legit and I cannot wait to see what he can do.

But as I keep saying, if he goes down with a serious injury costing him multiple games or the whole season, we are in a world of hurt. Think of an Iowa level of offensive ineptitude if Purdy comes in. Our defense is probably greatly improved, but they will not hold up if we have a "3 and out" offense.

Dear Lord, you know I do not ask for much -- just booze and a good crap now and then -- but please keep Sims healthy. Amen.

While they’re not top P5 QBs, I think you’re overly pessimistic about our backup QBs.

I hope you are right. But what I have seen from Purdy so far stinks. But that was last year with last year's problems. Maybe in the new system he can excel. Same for the others. But in modern football your offense goes only as far as your Qb can take you. We are not dominant enough up front to be able to line up and just plow people with the running game. We need a QB who is more than just a game manager. Sorry, but I disagree with your optimism. I do not see us beating many teams in the B1G with Purdy at the helm.

Plenty of reasons to be pessimistic about that position.

Purdy had some good series last year. I’m hopeful that IF he’s called on that our coaches put him better situations than Whipple did. HH is really a wild card but I think both guys would run a run heavy offense. Purdy is a year older and Probably smarter for his mistakes last fall.

The knock on Sims has been interceptions and, according to a Georgia Tech fan who posted on here, motivation at times. Hopefully, those problems are in the past. But we'll just have to wait and see.

I could see the TO’s but there hasn’t been a freckle of a hint of him not working hard/motivation out of the camp grind. Hopefully that’s misplaced regarding motivation and hopefully we see a different QB related to TO’s.

Hard to say what the circumstances were at Georgia Tech but he's got a new head coach, a new OC, new teammates and a new scheme to run so we'll see what this year is like for him - ie., it's a new start. I'm sure Rhule and crew analyzed his performance at Georgia Tech before picking him to run the Nebraska team.

I'm excited to see Sims but I doubt he will be as good as our QB last year. And if he gets hurt... I hope Purdy has improved because he was not good last year when he played.
Difference will be running the ball. CT had negative rushing yards last year. He threw pretty well overall for the circumstances. I think Sims will surprise people

So many times last year he could have kept the drive alive by running for 3-5 yards for a first down. I swear whipple had him tethered to the pocket🤬. Big opportunity this year to improve.

Haven't seen Sims in action much except the Spring Game but he appears to me to have a "different" type of throwing motion. His body motion and short arm motion appear it is going to be a 7-yard toss, but the ball goes 30 yards. Throwing longer passes appears effortless whereas a lot of QBs "wind up" to throw longer passes.

The thing I've noticed with some P5 QB's that have transferred school, with few exceptions they thrive by the change of school, location, new coaching, more motivation, etc.

Caleb Williams trended up after moving from OU to USC, but he's just a great talent wherever he's at.
Justin Fields went from Ga to OSU and had a great transition.
Maybe CT was even better at NU than he was at UT. (Probably about equal at each school).
Bo Nix transferred from Auburn to Oregon and has flourished.
JT Daniels moves every year, so he's just the same everywhere he goes.
Michael Penix moved from Illinois? and has really lit it up at U of Washington.
Jayden Daniels transferred from Arizona St to LSU and has become a highly productive QB under Kelly.
We can see how Sam Hartman does moving from Wake Forest to Notre Dame.

I'm sure there are others, but these are all pretty recognizable QB's that transferred and generally had improved production.

Overall, it has been a really good move for the majority of those QB's who transferred.

**Edited thanks to Bleed. Penix transferred from Indiana not Illinois as I indicated).

Penix was at Indiana, but close enough! Agree with your comment overall, and am hopeful on Sims being one of those who benefits from a change of scenery!

My understanding is that Sims's issue at GT was inconsistency. i'm not sure anyone knows whether that was related to his maturity, his team, the opponent, injuries, or all (or none) of these. Nevertheless, he had some very good games, so he's got talent. Hopefully, he'll be consistently excellent for NU. I'm a glass half-full guy tho.

I watched Sims at GA Tech 2-3 times. A ton of physical talent. He would make 2-3 great plays and then one bad play.

He was playing at a school with a losing mentality, just like NU, so I'm hoping a change of scenery and constant harping by the new staff will keep him within what he does really well.

NU might be somewhat like the old Hayden Fry mentality of "scratchin' where it itches." I.E. taking what the defense is giving.

I'm hoping the chaotic approach by NU's defense has shown Sims and the coaches where his potential weaknesses may be. Hopefully, Rhule and Sat have him grounded in not trying to do too much. That hasn't worked out well for NU for decades.

I would also add that Russell Wilson did pretty well at Wisconsin, after transferring from NC St.

How about that one guy from Ohio St? I heard he wanted to come to Nebraska but wound up going somewhere else. I wonder what ever happened to him?🤔

Regarding Sims or any QB, we can't forget the obvious that the OL will have a major impact. Just don't know anything about how this year's OL at Nebraska compares to the Georgia Tech OLs he had.

He wasn't better than what we had. Thanks for that reminder, I had forgotten about Burrows. He's done pretty well.

We also need to remember that there is now an OC who is more concerned about the team than his overly inflated ego... Squares never fit in round holes!!!
About the OL... Callahan and Sipple finally acknowledged yesterday that the youth of the O-Line in the last couple of years was a problem. They kept saying the B1G was a grown man's league and the line was young and got overpowered. Finally, someone else recognized this. This year there is a lot of experience compared to last year and the year before. If I remember correctly, there are almost 7 years more experience than last year and 5 more than 2 years ago. Do not quote the numbers but they are close.
