We're back again for game two in the last regular season series of the year as Nebraska (30-20-1, 14-8) looks to lock up the series win today over Purdue (23-28, 10-12) after a historic Thursday night win. Last night the Huskers reached the 30-win mark for the second time in three seasons while tying the single-season home run record with three home runs. Gabe Swansen, Max Anderson and Charlie Fischer all homered to tie the record at 93 as the 2023 team achieved that mark in 18 fewer games than the record-breaking 1985 squad. Swansen and Anderson had the big swings as their home runs each counted for three runs as NU plated eight of its 10 runs in the final three innings to dispatch the Boilermakers.
And this is all without star shortstop Brice Matthews who was held out on Thursday due to back tightness. He won't be out long term and only needs rest.
Today we'll have RHP Jace Kaminska (7-3, 4.52 ERA) vs. LHP Jonathan Blackwell (5-5, 6.21 ERA) for the pitching matchup as Nebraska looks to win the series. Today's game was moved up to noon to compenstate for the incoming weather that is supposed to hit West Lafayette at the originally scheduled time of 5 p.m. Here's the full series preview:
And in case you missed it, head coach Will Bolt, Anderson and Corbin Hawkins spoke to the media before departing for West Lafayette to give an insight on the team's hot string of games:
