Some think he's maxed out at A&M. They also have a new AD who just started today.
He's a 14 year MLB player. His net worth is 24 million. He's good.
Because he owns a house here, his daughter went to school here, he comes back regularly to hunt and fish and has told people that he really likes and misses Lincoln and would like to retire here someday.
Look, I'm not trying to make an argument guys, but we all have to work, and in the off season, he has plenty of time off.
It's his decision. He gave it an 8 year run. He wants to retire. Respect his decision.
Maybe to retire I guess. But he should leave his home state and the $EC to coach in the BiG TeN? That would be quite a charitable move.
Maybe I would feel different if the BiG TeN removed the extra scholarship restrictions that are in place.
I'm happy and do respect his decision. It would be sweet if we got Childress back.
We all have to work? If your net worth is 24 million, your money works for you. You dont need a “ real” job.
Yeah let’s not kid ourselves and compare the off-season of a baseball coach to a football coach. I’d say apples and oranges, but it’s more like apples and rhinoceroses.
Not that he needs it, but Erstad's MLB pension is probably about $150K per year. That alone would probably get me to stop working.

I never understand guys who knock down a couple million a year (or more) and have been for a long time and coach into their 70s. I guess if you love what you do so be it, but if I have $15M in the bank, I'm kicking back.
How many times do people have to say "But Erstad doesn't have to work" for you to understand that Erstad doesn't have to work? He made $50+ million as a MLB player for 12 years. He can do as he pleases.
I would too. But some guys NEED to work, stay busy etc. That and maybe they don't like staying home with the wife.
Fun fact: the Texas Tech HC had to miss his daughters high school graduation (my cousin is her classmate) 2 weeks ago to coach his team at the B12 tourney. Really couldn't just ask for the day off. I get what Erstad means

He can literally put 20 million in the market and make 1.4 Million a year with a 7% return. He never needs to work another day in his life. He didnt have to 8 years ago either. Nonetheless its time for some fresh blood.

What a great day to be a Husker fan! A beloved Husker athlete is retiring from coaching, to be replaced by a coach that will take us to great heights. We will be set in the 3 men's major sports for quite some time. Couldn't have worked out any better.

I guarantee you that he knows deep down he has had eight years with no real improvement. He cares enough about NU to know hes not the right guy, and doesnt need the money.

He gets to come back, get standing ovations at timeouts during football games, and can walk around the offices shaking hands whenever he wishes. Wear the red N and stop for photo ops with fans, etc. and can stay away when he wants to stay away.

That said, I listened to the interview with Moos in sports nightly. I thought he truly was caught somewhat off guard. Maybe I'm wrong and Moos with his good poker face.

This hire could be the true test of Moos Magic. Frost and hoiberg were perfect timing. This will be a true test of his salesmanship.
I feel the same way. I’d be retired in a heartbeat. But that is probably why we aren’t P5 head coaches. Some people are just wired different.
But your point really stands with the Bill Snyder’s of the world. Does he hate is family? Not a fan of his grandchildren? That I really don’t get.
