Not at all happy with this decision. I simply don't understand why 4 and 1/2 seasons of total futility is rewarded.

The definition of insanity.

Look at the bright side for someone like you, either Miles Sinks or he Swims next season.

End of story.

I don't think it matters who replaces Miles, unless it's a complete homerun hire. I cannot imagine a big time coach wanting to come coach in basketball purgatory. NU may as well keep Miles around until an AD who cares about Nebrasketball enough to throw insane $numbers at a big name coach or has ridiculous connections comes around. Otherwise, it'll just be the same story year in and year out.

Nebrasketball. Never was and never will be.

I was pretty indifferent either way. My guess is Eichorst put some feelers out to see what interest was out there and it was pretty slim. No need to change unless you have a proven coach lined up. If your gonna get another mid major, may as well go with what you have.

50/50 for me to the point where I would have said the right decision was made whichever way it went.

I was for keeping him around a little while longer. Nebraska basketball has never been very good, and Miles seems to at least care about trying to make it good. Give the guy plenty of time to build a culture and a program; I would only get rid of the guy if there were ethical problems or if Nebraska basketball really hits the shitter.

Why would anyone believe that next year will be the end of the line even if he has a poor year.......again?

The AD cried wolf with the contract last year, then a year later with worse results did nothing. Precedent set. Play nice with the media, keep kids out of trouble and keep smiling. Winning is secondary.

Now any coach that was thinking Nebraska was serious about basketball knows it isn't. So an up and coming coach looks at this job and says no thanks, they are happy with 12th place finishes in the league. They have nice stuff but no commitment to win. That is why we haven't ever been in the running for a legit coach other schools are after. We get the "safe hire" the guy that is looking for long term stability, not about doing what is needed to get immediate results. 20 years of subpar basketball. Woo f'n hoo.

At this point I don't want him fired anymore. I think we should be forced to live with the piss poor hire forever. Give him a lifetime deal and call it good.

Glad there is a football practice tomorrow. Enough of this shit show.

Apparently the same thing happened after the Iowa game in 2013 with Pelini hat flinging show when everyone thought Bo was gone after that fiasco.

He must have had nobody lined up.

After this finish, and the product I saw on the court the last 5 games, I would still like to see what he can do next year. It is so incredibly baffling as to what happened to this team at the end of the year, after what was a very competitive team with a very difficult schedule. I'd like to see what he can do with 1 more year, though my confidence in him is greatly shaken

If Eichorst had over a year to find a football coach and settled on Mike Riley, then I think I am glad he isn't hiring a basketball coach.

I had resigned myself to the fact that he would be back. I'm sort of indifferent at this point, because I don't see NU making a bold hire when Miles' time is up. Find an affable fellow who can play chummy with the boosters and pull an upset a couple of times every year - it's Nebraska basketball, after all.

But it will be interesting tomorrow when Michigan State's freshmen and sophomores wipe the floor with Penn State's freshmen and sophomores, while we are left to take comfort in the fact that NU is so young.

You would have to compare Sparty youth against Nebraska youth.

For some reason—and you guys can give me slack, I really don't care at this point—somehow... I think it was the right decision to retain him. (Forewarning, I know this is a long post but hear me out). Yes, he has not succeeded in a few years but who else wants to come coach basketball in Lincoln? Seriously, who else wants to coach here?! It has been a revolving door since the Danny Nee era, and even Nee couldn't win an NCAA Tournament game. The Nebraska Basketball head coaching position is a coach's career purgatory.

I know our record sucked this year, I remind myself every time I try and think about wanting to fire Miles. But let's get real, this team fell of the tracks after the three 1-point losses to Ohio State, Rutgers and Wisconsin in a 2 week span. And that's all after we had the toughest SOS in the country.

Underneath all the roots, here is the key problem: Nebraska basketball does not have a leader. The closest thing we have had a true leader was when Nebraska went dancing in 2013-14 with Ray Gallegos as a Senior. He was the last true leader with a voice and an actual ability to shoot as well. Shavon Shields and Tai Webster (.299 from 3 this year) both were excellent drivers to the basket but struggled with shooting the basketball beyond 18 feet. Terran Petteway could take it to the rack and shoot from deep. It was is a big part why the Huskers went dancing in '14. And the reality is that in today's college basketball world, you have to be able to make 3 pointers. Except for Glynn Watson (.402 from 3 this year), Nebraska does not have consistently good shooters from that range.

Lastly, Miles lost his assistant, Craig Smith, after the 2014 season to South Dakota and the team really has never been the same to me. Kenya Hunter and Ali Farokhmanesh are the only good assistants to date. Miles needs to pull a Riley and let go of Molinari and Boehm. He also needs Glynn Watson to develop into a quarterback.

Why is it the end of the story? After the usual defections and an untimely injury or two, no one will expect much next year. So why would he get fired? His team totally quit on him this season and stumbled to 13th place. If that doesn't get him fired 15-15 next year gets him an extension.

Next year if enters the B1G tournament and plays on Wednesday I don't see how Eichorst keeps him..

Most on this board at least expect them to finish 7-8-9 and quite a few won't be satisfied with that and expect Miles team to make the NCAA and at least be in the NIT.
Other facter I amagine will be season ticket sales for next season.

This is exactly why Nebraska isn't any good in hoops. As longs as longs as Miles runs a clean program and his players don't get in trouble keep him around. Regardless of his record. Brother! Let's aspire to be irrelevant.

Can you tell me why you think Miles cares more than his predecessors about making NU basketball good?

In 4.5 seasons, I've watched Miles' offense play like a poor NBA team playing out the season hoping for a good lottery pick. I have no confidence anything will change. I don't care what talent you have, if there is nothing unpredictable about your offense, good teams will shut you down. We've seen this over and over again. Except for one end of season surge in year two, Nebraska finishes poorly. WHY????

Defensively, we are a joke. He prides himself on defense and these are the results? He's so freaking hell bent on M2M that it effects who he will play and recruit.

Nebraska is getting killed by other teams with less athletic guys who can shoot, and figure out a way to compensate for them on D. Great shooters aren't always the most athletic guys. Being good shooters is what gets them on the court. Ask yourself this, would Eric Piatkowski see the floor with Miles as the coach??? Think about that one real hard.

I laugh at people who wonder why a predictable offense that experiences scoring droughts has guys that can't hit jump shots. When you are getting shut down and are forcing 3s or are taking them when they aren't in rythm, you will shoot poorly. Look at the ball movement other teams have used against Nebraska, and Nebraska gets torched for outside by good teams. This isn't rocket science.

For whatever reason Miles either can't or won't make schematic changes on his offense, and that is what drives me crazy.

If this is the standard for the program, then we should have kept Doc Sadler. Nobody cared more or ran a cleaner program than he did.

But I don't believe we invested millions and millions of dollars in building world-class facilities in order to win participation trophies and have 4 losing seasons in 5 years.

At the very least, Miles will leave more talent than Sadler did. So that's something.

The biggest shock to me is the fact that Eichorst supposedly sent a message to Miles by not extending him last year. He responds with the worst year he has had since he has been here and he keeps his job. I seriously thought he was gone after the way they finished.

Enjoy you as a poster but certainly disagree with you. Next year it's sink or swim with 9 rivals 150 players on the roster. You fire (I know you said keep him but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you were being facisious) and hire you are bound to loose multiple players to transfer (depending on hire but more than likely). So why not give it one more year? Definitely pessimistic, but I hope I'm wrong and he rights the ship, if it doesn't happen next year it's not going to. Then...back to the drawing board. Sick of this 5 year cycle and this is going to be the most talent (rankings wise) that Nebraska has had since the early 90s. Let's see what happens.

Im surprised he wasnt fired. This team got worse. Why should we expect Miles to be able to get them better next year? And we should be talking significantly better. Instead if he enters next year as the 8 or 9 seed it will be seen as great progress when a better coach might have gotten us as high as fifth. The big ten isnt strong right now fellas. We should have been 8 or better this year...year five?
His offense sucks. Is that going to somehow change? So if we get some great shooters who can make wild shots while everyone stands around does that make him a good coach? No.
I can understand being ok with keeping him. It could be we didnt have anybody or players said they would stay if he stays. However i cannot fathom why people actively want him to be retained after what weve seen during his career, especially this season.
If players leave this is going to look like a seriously stupid move.
But the a.d. Shouldnt listen to me, since my feelings toward nu bball at this point is general apathy. We are left with a big shiny arena and practice facility that was supposed to open the floodgates and a coach whos doing worse than his predecessor who did not have such luxuries. Apathy.

IMO, one factor is that our senior guard played like a freshman. Turnovers galore. Today I think he was 4/24 from the field or some ridiculous number close to that. I know he's beat up and worn down from all the minutes he played but man he stunk it up.

Webster had two turnovers today and the entire team had eight.
Not just today. My response is to what happened the past 4 games and not just Tai. WE STARTED the game according to Davison with 6 turnovers in about the first 5 minutes right? Frankly I was busy working and could only listen sporadically. Was my estimation of Tai's shooting percentage wrong? Good heavens 24 shots when you can't throw it in the ocean? Watson was no better and therein was the problem.

I wanted to give him another year. Healthy Morrow all season and hopefully a healthy Gill paired with Horne, Jordy, Roby and all the sophs a year older. They won some games this year they shouldn't have and lost a ton they shouldn't have. But we went 1-6 without Morrow. Lots of close losses. I figured lets give him another year and see what happens. If next season is a disaster then I don't think he sticks around.

So, what happened at the end of the season? It wasn't like we had to win any of those end of the season games, but it was the way we lost them. We were fairly competitive all year until the end, regardless of our record. Did Miles lose the team? Did the team lose confidence? Webster didn't seem the same after his injury.

Webster was 4-of-16 today, which is pretty terrible. But aside from Evan Taylor and a couple of flashes from Tshimanga, Webster was no more butt-ugly awful than anyone else on the team. I frankly think the reason they had only 8 turnovers is because they didn't move the ball enough to turn it over. They just stood around with their thumbs stuck sideways until someone jacked up a shot.

But maybe if I stopped watching the games, I'd feel a lot better about our young talent and how much better we're going to be when Webster's gone.

12th in offense in the conference, and 13th in defense...in Year 5. He will be a loser again next year, just like the last 3 years. Eichorst is a fking idiot, and should be fired next year, along with Miles.

first off who is the player that came into his office and said 'we don't deserve to go to the big 10 tourney. secondly if we keep changing coaches every 5 years we will just go around and around the merry go round, give him another year, he has young and up in coming players to compete, the end of this year was harsh to say the least, he lost his kids and they had no backbone, played with their tail between their legs, let's see what a year of jorde can do, I do believe next year we will be a lot better with what we have coming back.
