You guys that want Rhule canned...

or why all his first choices told him to pound sand like Jake Peetz did
Jake didn’t tell him to pound sand . Jake’s wife said he wasn’t going back to the college game. With the kids he needed to be around.

he moves his wife and kids every year and spends 100+ hours in the office year-round

some of you people are in complete denial

wake up

I was watching Callahan and Sipp earlier this week and they were very clear that Satt was NOT one of Rhule's first choices for OC. They said he had difficulty putting together a staff coming from the NFL and that Satt was definitely the backup plan. Makes you wonder who he really wanted?
Have you not figured out yet that Dean and Sip are fkn clueless on shit .

An NfL assistant coach doesn’t spend 100 hrs a week in his office year around. You are a fuvkin idiot.
yea you're right I'm sure he's home before dinner more often than not.

and moving his kids/family year after year is just good parenting.

get a clue, bud.

I am just saying in College he wasn’t home every night during the offseason. When his NFL season is over he literally will do nothing for a month or so . You can’t do that in College. That my point it really has nothing to do with moving. You have to take jobs if you need them . It was pretty well reported that his his wife was behind his decision to turn Rhule down. Carry on .

you do understand there are these things called "recruiting dead periods", right?

do you have a link to this reporting?

I think it's pretty obvious he thought getting coffee for Sean McVay was a better job than coaching our QBs under Rhule/Satt.

history has proven him correct. smart kid.

I posted multiple times before we hired Rhule that I would be fine if we hired a young up and comer nobody had ever heard of. That said, that approach carried tremendous risk. For every Cignetti there’s dozens of guys who have failed. We’ll see if Cignetti can replicate his success in coming years. KU is another case to watch.
True ... finding the right guy is hard, thus my comment on schools demanding more from the athletic director position.
Devaney followed by Osborne can lead a fanbase to believe that following one Hall-of-famer with another is par for the course.
Speaking of those 2 coaches, what was Devaney's claim to fame? 5 glorious years at Wyoming and then Nebraska takes a flyer on him. Point to the AD for recognizing talent.
Osborne? Literally spent his entire coaching career at one school, and had zero HC experience when hired. But having your former boss become the AD helps during the interview. Again, point to the AD for choosing correctly.
As for some of the AD choices after Osborne ...

So Rhule hired a warm body to prop up in a chair. Awesome.

Here's the kind of contract structure I'd love to see but will never happen:
$500K per win until you get to 6. Zero for losses.
$1.5M for every win over 6, $500K for every loss after 6 wins.
$5M minimum

A simple way to fix things (not sure it’s legally possible though) is to make initial contracts be a max of 3 years. Every new coach, or when a coach takes a new job, his 1st contract cannot be longer than 3 years and cannot be renegotiated until the beginning of the coaches 3rd year. 2nd contract can be whatever is negotiated between the University and the Coaches representatives. No limits on the duration or dollar amount.

This would quickly solve (or mostly solve) most of the coaching salary issues, IMO. I suppose schools could start paying coaches $20 million a year 🤷‍♂️ and firing them after their 3rd season and their only out $60 million. That’s still better than the $75 million aTm paid Jimbo to get lost. And that doesn’t even include the $30 million they already paid Jimbo to suck donkey balls. fAggies paid over $100 million to Fisher to suck. Under my system Jimbo would’ve been either fired after his 3rd season or he would’ve gotten a small 1-2 year extension to prove he can turn things around. In the end the institution is far better protected financially.

At $1.4M per. WTF!

On one hand… I’d like to think we could have gotten Satt for $700-900 million.

On the other hand… Satt likely knew he would fail and had to milk Rhule (the University) for every penny knowing he’ll be lucky to last 3 years.

Bo wasn’t a terrible choice. I think rhule is a good choice. Satterfield has been underwhelming, the wide receivers coach seems like a last-minute placement for Mickey, who is really good, but married poorly. Marrying poorly is the quickest way to screw up your life.

He gets cartoonishly angry sometimes on camera

As evidenced by all the 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalties

Not gonna lie, I actually see that as a red flag. Maybe that's normal, but I think it's pretty uncommon for the head coach to get multiples of those in one season. I've never mentioned it on here because it's probably pretty low on the list of things to break his balls over, but it's not a good thing. Doesn't really help with setting a good example in the play with discipline department. Do as I say, not as I do I guess? In his defense, we have had some really shitty refs though.

Gave his buddy a golden parachute. Rhule is the sober version of Scott Frost.

I think Sam M just made a really astute point with this tweet regarding Florida announcing that they're keeping Napier:

Boosters - do you want your money to go to fired coaches, or do you want it going to NIL to hire more talent? Rhule needs to get some better brains on the offensive staff, but screw paying a buyout.
Can't they just sell some NFTs?

Holyshit we're paying Satterfield more than $700 million?

You're a Deion lover so...

It just sucks that Nebraska doesn't have anyone in the state that has money like Phil Knight and ties to UNL...

Ugggg, just sucks that like, the richest man in the America doesn't like 48 miles form UNL.

Shucks.
Too bad Warren Buffet isn’t a Husker Fan!

when he's eventually relieved of his duties here nobody will hire him to run an OL room on his own.
and exactly when did you begin to know anything about coaching an O line? Your opinion on Donovan is exactly worth what people pay to hear it.

It was a huge mistake. He didn’t get the guy he wanted so he hired a guy he knew.
Trev gave Rhule a large assistant budget so he could hire the best assistants available. Unfortunately it fell to Satt but Satt did in fact have success as an OC at Temple. Not so much lately.

what good is this when it doesn't translate to the sideline or field of play?

we need an $8M/year hype man?

everything he's said to date has not only not come to fruition, but it appears he's sprinting in the opposite direction.
You’re focused on short term results. I’m willing to play a longer game when we don’t have to rely on true freshman QBs. Virtually every head coach I’ve heard talk about playing true freshman QBs say they’re going to cost you games you shouldn’t lose. IF your only consideration was this year and not the next 3 years, taking a one and done QB in the portal is the way we should have gone. You put Rourke on this team and we probably don’t lose to Illinois or UCLA.
