Likely not true. A bowl game between the 2 would be a 1 possession game in Vegas eyes.
Usually when that happened he was holding the ball too long. He has to sense that and get rid of it. We play a lot against future NFL edge guys. You can’t stand back there for 4 seconds and not expect some heat.
As I often said with Frost, there are lots of contributing factors to the mistakes but at the top of the list is how you practice. We're seeing a lot less mistakes (pre-snap penalties for example) than we did under Frost and the players are playing harder (that's not saying much). So there's been improvement, but not enough. With regard to the special teams, it really looks like they do not practice any of that enough. Iowa beat us in one area- special teams. So that has got to get a lot better.
As for the offense, DH highlighted some of the things he noticed. One thing that is GLARING is his comment that "if we cannot execute it well in practice, it's not going on the play sheet on game day". Sloppy execution in practice, players confused, running too many plays, etc. That's Coaching 101. Frankly, before Dana got here, the staff got the results that they deserved.
Ultimately Rhule is responsible for everything. But by making some staff changes and raising the bar/expectations in practice, this team should start winning close games. We've all seen good coaches have bad years. It's smarter to let a coach make some adjustments after two years of really getting to know the situation. Otherwise, we're just expecting almost instant success and that is a fool's errand.
That is something Dylan has got to work on. Staying in the pocket, sensing pressure, moving up & getting rid of the ball. I foresee a big jump with Dylan in year two.
Indiana must be fools then. I understand what you're saying, but it's not hard to have instant success with the current college football landscape.
DR came in very inexperienced with pocket movement and wasn't being coached up. He relies way too much on arm talent and tends to just drift backward instead of using and trusting in the pocket. He will learn to move laterally within the pocket to open passing lanes, which will help his tackles, and he needs to use his checkdowns. There was a visible celebration on the sideline one of the few times he actually checked it down as a 3rd or 4th option, and he left a lot of yards on the field getting sacked instead of checking it to Emmitt. True Freshman aren't supposed to be playing QB, even in 2024, there are consequences for it.
As long as TW stays, then yes - schedule sets up for Rhule to have a big year 3

It would seem like an odd flip if there was uncertainty with the offensive staff. Maybe that’s why it’s just crystal balls at this point. It also may be a sign Dylan isn’t going anywhere either

I laughed because you included him as a commit and he wasn't one. Terry wasn't one either. THATS why I laughed. I'm taking your advice and "just waiting for it".

He wasn’t holding the ball too long on the last offensive play vs Iowa. That defensive end was on him very quickly.
Satt was spotted in Lincoln driving a Boomer Sooner golf cart. Took him forever to go anywhere because he couldn't pass.
Good note- Under the radar has been how healthy we were this year. Compared to most teams or an average year, we suffered minimal losses.
A fully healthy T. Hill and healthy OT would have certainly helped, but if that was worst case scenario this year, it was pretty tame compared to what many teams deal with (including us in other years).
Special Teams clearly cost us games this year, and that’s happened to us before. Have to take that third phase more seriously.
Not fools, just very lucky. Hired a good coach who brought 15 good players with him to his new school. Transfer QB just happens to play better than anyone expected. They played only one rated team all year (and lost).
I won't do the research but I would estimate conservatively that about 1 in 10 teams that hire a new coach have a huge turnaround in wins and losses like Indiana did. And then 1 in 3 of those teams actually sustain that success over time. The odds are not good. Of course, we could just keep firing and buying out contracts until we finally hit on somebody.
It'll be interesting to see how well Cignetti does in year 3.
Next year his schedule looks real pud so Indiana should do well. Come year 3, with a tougher schedule and losing his James Madison kids, it'll be interesting.
Next year they play Oregon. PSU , Illinois and Iowa . This year besides OSU the best team record wise was 7-5 Michigan. H

Us expecting a coach to come in and make playoffs year 2, is part of the reason we are in this mess.
So many dumb fans.
Against Iowa’s edge rushers it has to be 1,2,3 and either the ball is gone or you’re securing the ball with both hands and running it.
However we signed on for the guy who always takes 3 years to get good. If we wanted faster results should have hired someone else. It is what it is at this point.
