Both the Omaha & Lincoln Airport is

I have often thought this same thing. Many cities have airports well outside of their city limits and which require a half an hour or so to get to. I see no reason why we could not have a new and large and modern airport somewhere between Lincoln and Omaha just off of I-80 that replaces both of the airports currently in operation.

If that lake happens it's going to make take offs and landings challenging.

I hope that lake never happens.

I've thought this at times but sometimes these airports fail or at least are for a HUGE city that also has an airport more in the city AND a rapid dedicated train into the city center ala Narita or Charles de Gaulle.

It’s not going to be very big, and will be incredibly shallow. It will be bathtub hot most of the Winter, just like all other mud holes around this part of the state

For everyone suggesting Nebraska should ditch Eppley and build a new, larger airport outside the city limits between it and Lincoln, the cost would be enormous for that and unnecessary, really, given Eppley still has more than enough footprint with updates to meet its current needs for the foreseeable future.

Obviously it wouldn't be built to a scale of Denver, for example, but brand new airport planning and construction cost equivalent to around $8 billion today, adjusted for inflation. That's a lot of money to spend you don't really need to right now.

I hate when airports are way outside the city.. making the drive from downtown Denver to the airport sucks.

True, and to drive to DIA you have to pass through a couple of the city's worst traffic chokepoints on I-70 or I-270.

I usually take the train, but that's no picnic either. I also know a backroad route that's slow as Hell, but at least I know I won't get stuck in traffic.

It’s funny, I always take a different way that takes more time just to avoid getting stuck in traffic. I know I’m actually losing time, but at least I’m moving. 🤪

You really need to broaden your horizons if you think the Omaha airport is “dumpy”. Ones I’ve been to that are a lot worse in larger cities = O’Hare, Charlotte, Havana, the smaller one in Bangkok (the bigger one was nice). Hong Kong is probably the coolest one I’ve been to.

Yeah I hate taking that backroad, but I-270 is a parking lot for about two hours in the morning and three hours in the late afternoon. So taking that route when you're trying to make a flight is pretty nerve-racking.

The train used to be ideal for me, until catalytic converter theft became a national pastime, making it very unwise to park at any of the park-and-rides. My wife usually drops me off at the train station now (kind of her own personal Yellowstone moment).

It wouldn’t have to be next to the lake. Plenty of airports next to oceans too. As a boat owner with no good lakes within a hundred miles, I desperately hope that lake does happen, but I’ve been told it is unlikely.

Neither Lincoln nor Omaha is a big enough market to offer a lot of direct flights. They probably should have built a regional airport near Ashland decades ago, but there wasn't a lot of interest. Such an airport would have sucked in a lot of ways, anyway. What would cab fare be between Ashland and downtown Lincoln? About $300?

The Omaha metro is now over a million people. That will hopefully start to attract more flights, which in turn will make travel better. Lincoln is pretty much hopeless except for little regional puddle jumpers.

Pretty shitty. Nebraska missing big on having a nice airport. Omaha airport is so dumpy.
Couple things I do not like about Nebraska.

Haven't flown into Lincoln's Airport in years. I bet it has been more than 20 years. Omaha has more options. Alaska flies nonstop from Seatac to O.

Who cares fool. Sports forum not a English class dummy. Tbsker I bet you come back for more
And know what you will say lol.

Frankly I find the Omaha airport to be just fine. Granted could update the food courts but for a medium sized city and airport it is easy to get around and the parking is excellent. No idea regarding the Lincoln airport however as have not been there. In regard to major airports I find Atlanta's to be excellent.

Atl sucks.

Correct .. there Is an A and B side.. best to just have one large tsa checkpoint and combine it all to give it a larger feel.
Why do you want a larger feel? It's not like a sports stadium. You like queuing up like cattle at DEN or O'Hare? I travel quite a bit and Eppley is solid. Best airport I've ever been was on Koh Samui, it was a thatched hut. I love to ski but the TSA checkpoint at Den is a nightmare some days.

DFW is by far the nicest and easiest airport to get in and out of. Its even fast when coming back in from an International destination. Its well laid out and has 5 terminals. Problem now is that parking at gates A and C is usually completely full. Uber is the best thing to take; no waiting to go home.

TSA has been no picnic at times in Omaha .. best to increase number of agents at one spot rather than have split between two locations (where one could be quiet and the other packed).

If you have TSA precheck, you need to use the North Security line in Denver. It's about 3/4 dedicated to prechecked travelers. Even better, it's poorly marked so a lot of people don't know how to find it. Hope that never changes. 😎

I’m a bridge security lifer

Best kept secret by far in DIA

Yeah the bridge is a good option too, but north security on the ground level almost never has a long line. People complain about how hard it is to find, but I like it that way. Keep the people who don't know better lined up on top of each other at south security.

Not according to the airport's map they aren't...

I think the point the poster was trying to make is it would be ideal to have a single TSA checkpoint where you can access all food and bar options post-security regardless of which set of gates you fly out of.
I thought there was A&B which equals 2 in my book

Just got back from overseas. Would take any US airport over Dublin. Milan has a pretty dope airport.

Airport officially calls it three terminals with North, Central, and South. Then you have Concourses A and B for where the gates are located with A being in South Terminal and B gates being for North Terminal.

I don't really agree with the logic of that, frankly, because separating concourses out from the terminals when you don't have different concourses within the terminals is an unnecessary way of delineating yourself in my view. (I assume maybe it has to do with trying to differentiate pre- and post-TSA checkpoints I guess?) But that's how the airport organizes itself, so that's how I would refer to it myself as a result.

You’re crazy, or haven’t been around the country/world much. They’re two of the nicer airports you can fly in and out of. Clean, easy to get around, safe, friendly.

Every time I fly into either, I tell myself, “wishing every airport, so clean, uncrowded and easy”.

Can be in an out in 20 minutes.

Ya want to see a shitty airport. Try LAX, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Washington Dulles, Cairo, Bogota, Dallas FW, Chicago O’Hare, Toronto BB, Toronto Lester B, London Gatwick, Newark, LaGuardi & hundreds of others…

Omaha, and Lincoln airports are two of my favorite airports to frequent.

Miami airport smelled like mildew and piss when I was there years ago. Detroit, I thought I had time travelled back to the 70s'

Newark - hands down the worst airport I've ever been in, feels like a refugee camp in there
Denver - I'm biased since I live here, honestly not that bad - love the rumors surrounding it
Midway - maybe not the worst airport, but its in one of the worst neighborhoods in Chitown
San Jose - my personal fav, has one of the best lounges in country there
Omaha - I've always thought it was very Nebraska; functional and efficient without any bells and whistles

Bingo.. EWR is the worst airport in the country.

Clearly you haven't flown through Detroit since 2002 when the McNamara Terminal opened... it's definitely one of the nicest terminals in North America for a major airport (please note the distinction in pointing out "major"). Even the Evans (North) Terminal is pretty nice and that opened way back in 2008.

It’s always nice to have a cool club, but my main objective is to get in and out as fast as possible…get where I’m going/get home. There’s not a single sky-lounge in existence that beats your own home. but yes, Delta has some of the best lounges all over the world probably only surpassed by Emirates.
