After seeing praise from @NUfanNOmaterwhat in another thread, I gotta see if we can get an actual answer on this. Why in the world has Zack Darlington been relegated to being a holder/10th string WR?
I get that at this late stage of the season there's less than 1% chance they'd actually throw him in there at QB over Fyfe, but my question is more about the big picture going back to his position switch. What was it that gave Fyfe the edge?
We've only seen a tinyyy bit of him as an NU QB (2015 spring game), but even then it looked like he had plenty of talent/QB savvy to compete. His decisions and accuracy were honestly really refreshing to see from a redshirt freshman, even going up against backups. Before that we all know he was a very highly sought-after recruit, with Urban and others trying to get him to play QB. And as far as intangibles go, I feel like we've seen PLENTY to suggest that he's the type of guy with the toughness and personality of a leader.
So what's the deal? I'm not trying to be an annoying "I KNOW MORE THAN THE COACHES" type of guy at all, I just want to understand. Is he terrible at practice? I know we've been told he doesn't have that strong of an arm, but we've also been told our passing game could excel with someone who can hit short passes and make good decisions. I know he had the concussions in high school, but he's been medically cleared for at least two years and is still on the team so I can't imagine that has to do with it.
I guess I'm just trying to say I think Darlington should be our starting QB until he graduates, based on almost no information. Kidding of course, but seriously, anyone with concrete answers or speculation feel free to chime in.
