Big 10 adding Friday night games, includes Huskers (excludes OSU, PSU?)

It distracts from the highschool games, what you don't think those kids want to watch Nebraska play ? How can they when they are playing. Not good !
Again, we are talking once every three years… For most high schoolers this will affect them for exactly one game in their HS career. Let's not be too dramatic…

We don't have to like it, but surely there's a stronger argument to be made than this.

Disagree. Either we all do it or no one should do it. I don't see why any schools get a pass.

If it's going to be so wonderful for exposure etc., let the lowest ranked teams in the league do it. it will help them out.

OSU and PSU get a pass and Michigan says no. I don't get why 3 schools don't participate like the rest. Either we all do it or tell Delany to pound sand.

I kind of think the opposite… I think it should be up to the schools to decide if they want to participate. Because I think for some schools it would be a great idea.

I believe my title is wrong and I'll add a question mark to OSU and PSU getting a pass. It seems like the initial twitter news I read had it, but stuff since seems to question it so I'm not really sure.

Before I edit it, do you know what's accurate?

I don't. I was going with your post. :)

I do agree that there needs to be some uniformity… No problems there. If some schools have a pass and others don't, that doesn't make sense to me.

The point I was trying to make in my previous post was that arguing a high school student wouldn't be able to watch their favorite team seems a little weak considering it will affect them for one game of their entire high school career.

I mean this is the Big Ten. Everyone equal. Otherwise we're still in the Big 12.

Totally agree. This is a valid argument. I had no trouble with this and absolutely agree. I do think it's silly to say that a high school player won't be able to watch his favorite team.

Plus OSU and PSU aren't involved.

Ohio State not opted out. Though I wish they would.

When the Big Ten announced Wednesday that it would be bringing its football games to Friday nights beginning in 2017, Michigan informed the conference it would not be playing games on Fridays.

Later Wednesday evening, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel issued a statement to Land of 10 as to why the Wolverines would not be seeing the Friday night lights.

This statement comes after Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State agreed to play games on Fridays under certain conditions, while Illinois and Northwestern would comply and play Friday games without any qualms.

Penn State was the only other school to refuse to play football on Friday.

The Big Ten’s announcement to play games on Friday came as a part of the conference’s six-year media deal with ESPN and FOX, where six prime-time games will air on Fridays starting with the 2017 season.

If that Nebraska vs Akron game next year is on a Friday instead of a Saturday, then the recruiting class will go to hell in a hand basket. The number of elite players that already have that game circled as the must see game to visit Lincoln is too great.

How about this, when a client agrees to pay you $50 million a year to televise your games, you may have to acquiesce 1 time in 3 years. That is a simple business model.

I think the thing people have a problem with is that some don't have to follow the same rules

Again the networks paying the hundreds of millions make the rules. It's a cost of doing business.

The schedule hasn't even been released yet. Why don't we wait for that before we have this big cryfest about inequity.

We have to have one of the most sensitive and whinyest fan bases in the world. Everything is a freaking injustice and an attack on everything Husker related.

My understanding based on what I've read elsewhere is that any team had the option of turning down Friday night games if they wanted to. So this isn't an issue of certain teams being favored over others.
I don't see it as us being treated unfairly-I see it as a stupid idea for everybody that really won't do much for anybody.

Here is what Delaney said:

"Delany told the Tribune that Michigan has declined to play Friday games either at home or on the road. He also said programs with large seating capacity stadiums such as Ohio State and Penn State would also likely be exempt from Friday night home games."

My problem with this is that, with contribution, I'm paying $2000/yr per seat to go to the games. Friday night games mean skipping the game as I cannot take off an afternoon of work to make it to the game. These types of changes dictated by TV (such as the 11:00 games) encourage people to re-think renewing season tickets.

Above it was said that Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa agreed to play home games on Friday nights under certain conditions. Penn State refused to play any games on Friday, like Michigan. If those schools were allowed to put conditions on which they would play on Friday night, I don't know why we wouldn't either. For all we know, we may have put conditions on it too-we don't know because there has been no comment on the matter from our athletic department.

I'm curious, why can't you take 1 afternoon off of work every 3 years?

If this is Black Friday then it's fine.
However, if it is any other Friday during the season this is awful. I would much rather play an un-televised game on a Saturday than a Friday night game. Friday night is for High School...so many wrongs with this on so many levels. This proves Michigan is a big program and Nebraska is currently a wannabe. Our administration needs to grow some balls and say NO.
I know I won't watch/go.

"Son, we live in a world that has conferences, and those conferences have to be defended by men with money. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep about Friday games, and you curse the BIG. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Friday night games, while tragic, probably makes money. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, makes money. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at tailgates, you want me leading this conference, you need me leading this conference. We use words like cash, profit and TV deals. We use these words as the backbone of a life promoting something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a fan who rises and sleeps under the blanket of financial freedom that I provide this conference, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up your ball, and join the MAC. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

I was going to ask the same exact thing.

The schedule comes out way in advance...I would think you could take a few hours off. Maybe not!
1. Between my wife's schedule and mine, we need a long lead time to take time off during the week.
2. Maybe these games will be scheduled way in advance, currently game times for about 1/2 the schedule are announced the week before.
3. A big part of going to the games is meeting up with friends before the game, if that is out because other people can't take the afternoon off, going to the game loses some of its shine.
4. If we are playing Michigan, Wisky or OSU it would probably be worth dealing with 1-3, if our opponent is Akron it is not.

1 & 2 are covered once the schedule is released. Game days are announced on the schedule; see black Friday. It's times that aren't announced till later.

3 & 4 don't coincide with your inability to get work off.

Appreciate the response.

I think they said it would be scheduled 10 months out.

I think it would be fun...not all the time...but once every 3 years really doesn't seem like a big deal. But I also don't have season tickets. I am not sure if I would feel differently if I did.

First explain why in the hell does tOSU claim a National title in 1970?

What a joke...

We were more deserving in 1983 by far than bucknuts ever dreamed in 1970.

You'd have to ask the National Football Foundation that awarded them the title. Cry some more though.

Friday belongs to the high schools. Least anyone forget, we are somewhat dependent on the high schools to fuel our programs. Maybe we at least ought to ask what they think about D 1 football on Friday night.
