We wouldn't have gone to a bowl this year with turnover machine Amart as qb. History has proven that.

Did he look like an all-american? No. But look at the consistencies and the difference from this year compared to the other 8 years. One main difference. DR.
I’m fine with the baby fat. It’s more about not fearing getting hit. He’s a big kid. He could deliver hits on DBs.
I’d take him in a heartbeat. He makes quick decisions and is extremely accurate on the shorter passes. He needs to stop tossing up jump balls but that’s something that will be fixed. But, the antics. I know, I know; get off my lawn.
He’s separating personal statistical performance from team results. There is a difference. I liked Martinez’s mobility but my eyes tells me his accuracy was poor and he made too many bad decisions. His run threat most definitely helped helped our receivers get open. They’re just completely different players in different offenses. It’s kind of tough with all the variables to think that stats are an accurate way to rank them IMO.
It’s clear they both had pretty good freshman years but neither probably got as much out of their team as they could have. Both had mistakes that likely cost us wins.
Time will tell.......maybe it's the offensive line or lack of? Could be he is a freshman, on the other hand maybe he is just not clutch and good under pressure.

Adrian had the much better freshman season. That's not hating on Dylan, it's a simple fact. Luckily Dylan had a much better defense that could lead to a bowl game and a winning season.

You are also not taking into account the 6 lost fumbles and however many other fumbles that Nebraska recovered. You don't get to count the 600 yards and not count the negatives that went along with it.
The whole discussion is apples to oranges anyway. Two different styles of QB, like comparing Mike Vick to Peyton Manning,
DR is obviously super talented and was a major upgrade this year. Still has a ways to go but I think people need to realize he is a freshman playing D1 football. If he was in year 2 or 3 I would be more critical. He had some bad games and moments but thats to be expected. We should see major improvements next season.
Folks championing AM and he was the most unclutch player in Husker history. Pretty sure he led the planet in total turnovers during his tenure at Nebraska.
If healthy, Dylan is a top 10 NFL pick. DR will likely be an All American in year 2 with DH calling plays and talent all around him. Our coaching staff thought it was a good idea to put 100% of this year’s offensive success squarely on his shoulders
If we decide to give him just a little bit of help with any semblance of a running game those bad moments become much fewer and farther between
I’m still astonished by how incredibly stupid our approach to this season offensively was
DR had a good season. He did nothing that specifically lost us games, unlike AM (I think he threw a pic to end the UCLA or USC game, cant remember, but we would have needed a lot more after that play to even tie). He failed to hit a couple guys that were open that would have won us some more games. He also had a couple receivers drop TDs that would have won us a couple games. He also had to deal with some stupid special teams play that specifically cost us games.
what was the run/pass ratio this year, and what do you think it should have been to make it not incredibly stupid? Or are you just saying, the running plays they ran were stupid because they didnt work?
We had zero run scheme for the first 9 games of the year.

Run/pass ratio for the season was 50/50. Needs to be 55/45 in favor of the run at minimum going forward (was better with DH) and the closer we can get to 60% runs the better.
Stats say 448 rushing and 435 passing. Literally right about 50/50.
I think in some cases, perception is reality. The play calling and the results were basically the same under Holgersen as it was with Satterfield. I think the difference was that the flow was better and there seemed to be an actual game plan. So that gave the perception that it was different. I do believe that Holgersen will take it to another level in 2025.
USC - Plays 63 - Runs 25 - Passes 38 - 40/60
Wisconsin Plays 74 - Runs 36 - Passes 38 - 49/51
Iowa Plays 76 - Runs 43 - Passes 33 - 57/43
BC (BCU for oldman) Plays 64 - Runs 32 - Passes 32 - 50/50
Totals - Plays 277 - Runs 136 - Passes 141 - 49/51

we need a 10% (at minimum) shift toward running the ball.
and DR needs to get more comfortable under center this offseason.
we saw a philosophical shift once Dana came in - we started punishing people - and we need to triple down on it

The entire reason we had a 'good' running game last year was because of HH and the QB run game. Without a mobile QB, that kind of goes out the window with average talent at RB and OL, and below average outside blocking. The running game is a numbers game, and a QB run threat gives you an extra guy to exploit the front 7 of the defense.

there was a concerted effort to get the ball out of DR's hands the last 3 games - as there should have been for the entirety of the season
AM was a more “exciting” QB with his ability to scramble and run, and that was clearly seen as a true freshman. The excitement around DR is more about arm/accuracy potential that we can see is there, but it didn’t connect often enough down field as a true freshman.

Until we upgraded the OC and WR coaches, they were going to have the same curse of poor coaching and player development. If that didn’t change, DR would likely regress and/or transfer. Hopefully that will be better going forward so that we can see DR’s potential realized in games more often.

Ok. But even with those numbers thrown out, only the iowa game, a loss, did Holgersen run more than throw. In the two wins it was 50/50. I believe the run game will be more aggressive or with a different attitude than what Satterfield called. The OLine was on its heals under Satt
Remember the end arounds to Barney are passes because the ball is tossed forward.
I am not sure the play calling will be much different ratio wise. Again those plays to Barney, the quick wheel route to the RB that we saw more of, are an extension of the run game.
Settling for a true freshman starting QB was the major mistake in the first place.
67% completion percentage is light years ahead of our QB's last year who were all sub 50 percent. He has areas to improve but all N all it was a good season and got us a bowl win for the first time in 8 years.
