All the riley haters

Bo left a program with a grand total of 4 scholarship LBs on the roster. The AD made a massive mistake by letting him off the hook. He should have given him another two or three years to run the program in the ground.

Bo is gone. This is not a Bo vs Riley deal. This is a Riley is failing deal. The massive mistake at this point appears to be the out of the blue hire of Mike Riley. Instead of looking for a coach who had a chance to bring W's and hardware, Eichorst decided to go with the "anti-Pelini" and it cost him his job.

IMO, the solution to all our woes would be to hire Scott Frost as our offensive coordinator /assistant head coach at 2.2 million a year on a 3 year contract. That is a half million more than he makes now. We would come out ahead financially by saving the $7 million buy out for Riley. Riley could gracefully retire at the end of his contract and Frost would be well groomed to take over. Riley will have been given a chance to build his vision which would have better odds with Frost running the offense. This stable plan will look enticing to recruits and everyone capable of being happy will be.

You should get your facts. Bo left the program with 6 scholarship players and 5 more walk on LB's. So there was a total of 11 LB's. At least one of the walk-on's contributed enough to receive a scholarship. Two of them, Courtney Love and David Santos choose to transfer after the Mike Riley hire was announced.

This just seems to be another one of those cases where we have heard the blame so many times of leaving the cupboard bare that we believe it without knowing the facts.

Except for Frost...and Mike Riley for that matter.

Bo was rightfully fired because he didn't win "the games that matter".

Riley is winless vs the 2 top programs in the division (Wisconsin & Iowa). It's as simple as that.

Never going to happen. Neither Frost nor Riley would agree to that. Furthermore, Riley has no desire to run that kind of an offense.

feel free to post this thread so we may read it in context, grazi in advance

The thread title was - REALISTIC 2017 PREDICTIONS

in which you posted:

"9 wins, but more competitive, no huge blow-outs"

and now you are leading a 3 page diatribe about how others expectations are out of whack when really all most hope to see at this point is 7 wins

go back and read that thread and subtract 2 wins from most of the predictions and we still are a long shot from achieving that ... hell this staff is making the trolling Iowa fans who predicted 5-6 wins look like geniuses

It's a "Bo's last recruiting classes were ass and failing" deal.

Hes gone nuts.
He posted this in a reasonable expectations and yet insinuates that anyone upset expects 1995 and national titles by now...:rolleyes:

Get together, agree on who the new coach and assistants will be.
put it in writing. then each sign it.
have it together by Monday morning. and put what the record will each year for the next 5 years.
thanks and GBR!

We could hire a monkey to get us back to 9-4 consistently while looking for an actual upgrade...

Its pretty obvious that Bo needed to go since him and SE couldn't get along. His anger issues associated with that relationship were certainly reaching a boiling point. What I continually get amazed at is the people who said MR would immediately start challenging for Championships because he was being given the keys to the Ferrari. Any trained monkey could win 9 games at Nebraska.

Until he didn't. And then the excuse makers broke into the cancer, the toxic, the empty cupboard. These all came AFTER MR started losing. And its like anything.......if you repeat it enough you start believing it. What they haven't accepted is that this staff has failed to get the buy in. There is much more proof in results to see that then some type of Bo cancer.

Just look around? Our play on the field, unorganized, poor decisions, poor preparation and development. We shouldn't even have to compare ourselves to Scott Frost at UCF. There is a reason people are doing it and its not because of Bo.

This whole fight regarding whether MR is what we need is only festered by the people still blaming everything on Bo. Once they get over that they can see what most see. In their minds they will be blaming Bo in 2025 because we had a 7 year gap of bad coaching. They are doing it now with FS and BC. They are just tacking on one more name to protect MR.

Riley showed us in that very first game against BYU who he is as a coach. Mismanagement of the play clock, poor play calling and no pressure on the final play on a 2nd string quarterback who had just gotten back from serving a two year LDS mission. He just shrugged and smiled after losing to a bad BYU team and he hasn't stopped. He either doesn't care about winning or it doesn't bother him enough to lose to become a better coach. Riley is not a Winner.

Bingo. What we have on this board these days are a bunch of lowered expectations being passed off as "reasoned and calm analysis." Spin it however you want, but if we end up 5-7 (my current prediction) that will be well below what even the preseason pessimists thought would happen.

HE probably would have won at least nine games each year.

You know that safeties played LB in Bo's defense, right? The nickel, the dime, you know those guys that we used a ton. They played what you consider LB. So, yeah, we usually had one or two LB's on the field.

it's great we can have spirited debates about this, but again I feel most are missing the BIG PICTURE.

this whole thread has been a series of ignoring the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!

Dr. Tom passed a lot in the 70's, bury switzer's wishbone tuckered NU's D out in the 4th quarter. so Dr. Tom went to the run...
this is HISTORICAL FACT.

so the 80's and 90's were run/run/run/run/run/ (then a well planed pass).

ENTER SOLICH: solich ran the ball but dan and buck fumbled right /left/and forward/and backward.
so solich made NU football ONE DIMENSIONAL: crouch right crouch left.
which was ok for iowa state but got exposed by cu, miami, etc..

ENTER JAMELLE LORD ONE DIMENSIONAL ATTACK AND BYE BYE SOLICH.

(during the solich error many PASS HAPPY NU FANS WERE SPRUNG)

ENTER PASS HAPPY CALLAHAN: FAIL, GOODBYE PASS HAPPY CALLAHAN

ENTER BO BO: rode suh for a year, tried to be pass happy decide to go back to the run kinda. SEE RUN STRAIGHT MARTINEZ AND GO OUT FOR A BOMB ARMSTRONG.

bo was clueless on offense. BYE BO BO

(bo bo the clown 7 years)

LETS BRING PASS HAPPY BACK ENTER RILEY: he's stuck with go out for a bomb armstrong for 2 years, then in the 3rd year actually gets a passing qb.
he has linemen who are still learning, a first year qb, and receivers who drop passes like HOT POTATOES.

ENTER HOT HEAD FAN WHO WANTS TO BLOW EVERYTHING UP AGAIN.

enter redwine's insightful post on husker online:
redwine understands pass happy fan will not be eliminated until we give riley 5 years and all the support he needs.
redwine understands, all the way back to DR.Toms understanding that RUNNIG THE BALL is the best way for Nebraska to win.
not only do you burn the clock, wear opponents down, own the 4th quarter...you also can get good run pass qb's, and BUILD GREAT LINEMEN, from nebraska boys.
REMEMBER: 3 of the 95 pipeline came 50 miles from lincoln.(ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT AND TEACH IT TO YOUR CHILDRENS CHILDRENS)..
also your NOT recruiting against everyone and their mammie, for the same players.
see lincoln, no BeAcHeS, MoUNtAiNs, or big population centers.

so redwine understands running the ball is Nebraska's best chance to MEET EVERY'S EXPECTATIONS.

but if we don't give riley a good chance, PASS HAPPY FAN WILL CONTINUE TO EXIST. and other coaches will be less likely to consider NU.

so thats why Im for giving riley 5 years, to do the best we can, support the team the best we can, see if PASS HAPPY will work ONCE AND FOR ALL.

and if PASS HAPPY doesn't work, after we done all we can.

then FINAL WE CAN GO BACK TO NEBRASKA"S BREAD / BUTTER:
THE RUN!!!!

You forgot how red wine says those complaining expect 1995.

Also, is red wine secretly hoping we go five years and fail? Sounds strange

Look I mistakenly took SE at his word and believed that Riley was his first and only choice. In hindsight, I believe Tuco's assertion that we contacted 2 SEC coaches who fans would have been very happy with but they said no thanks. It makes sense. We didn't have near the talent on board that Michigan, OSU or Florida had on board when those jobs were open. We had a still living pissed off former head coach and AD standing in the wings. We had a fractured fan base with 30-40% of them pissed that Bo had been fired. We had an outsider AD who people were already bitching about. I don't know of any coach in their right mind who would have taken our job other than somebody getting a huge pay raise. I don't think HP and SE wanted to gamble on somebody who they weren't sure could handle the scrutiny or pressure without a Bo style meltdown so we got Riley. Was it right, maybe not but he's our coach now and IMO he hasn't had a fair chance to recruit and build his program yet. His first full year class playing now are just redshirt freshmen or true sophomores.

reading comprehension is not your strong suit...

I hope Nebraska wins, either passing or running, BUT THE FACTS ARE, running is the best chance for Nebraska to win, especially to the high expectations of FIRE THE COACH NOW FAN.

the same way I supported 0bama, I knew he was a commie/mohamidan and his polices would fail, but I still loved America, thus we let that ignorance play it's self out,
and now America is getting back on track.

Whatever, I won't trust anything a serial liar says.

Love was leaving no matter what and Santos flunked out of school. SO we had 4 scholarship linebackers for 4 starting spots. Nice depth there.

Upon his arrival in 2007, Pelini inherited a roster stocked with 17 future NFL draftees, including two first round picks, a pair of All-American DB’s, a once-in-a-generation DT, and 3 other All-Conference caliber defensive linemen. Riley did not inherit such a roster. In fact, the roster Riley inherited has yielded 5 draft selections with 4 of those alone in 2016, with last year’s sole pick going in the 5th round.

Wait, we had all those guys and Callahan could only go 5-7? Yikes! Thank goodness we got a coach who could coach those guys up and even develop them for the pros.
