California, North Carolina and Maui

I appreciate the Attention and Funding the President has committed to California, which the situation and devastation is just horrific.

But…I want to see North Carolina and Maui citizens treated with the Very Same attention, support and Money!

California residents will need enormous help, but should Not receive any more Governmental aid and money than North Carolina and Maui citizens Will.

NIL and College Sport Disaster

Recruiting Portal Football Players with “Bags of Money” will force every school to Re-Recruit their entire roster of 105 every year.

Because others will be Recruiting their top level players and the remaining players are going to want proportionate share.

There are no rules for 3rd party representatives prohibiting contact with players any day of the year. And they will and are. Portal entry already doesn’t matter. Every Coach and School will experience being undermined constantly. This is going to lead to disaster within the sport starting now.

College Football provides the revenue that pays for the Sports Programs at most schools. NIL money by itself will not save some schools.

Without Change, think about every school churning the top 25 returning players every year. Coaches will continue leaving the profession in much larger numbers.

Schools will experience pressure to solicit NIL dollars constantly, in huge chunks. And this will pit Sports vs Academia even more for those dollars. It’s not a pretty picture.

How do you see it?

B1G 10 Penalties/Officiating stats

B1G 2024 Penalties per team

The link is to a Google Sheet I put together showing B1G play for all of 2024.
When the team in column A played a team in row 2, the team in row 2 had 'X' penalties that game. Sums are at the bottom and far right.

1) Iowa was the most disciplined (or favored by refs) team with 26 penalties for 257 yards.
2) UCLA was the least disciplined (or disfavored by refs) with 75 penalties for 617 yards.
3) Ohio St's opponents were called for the fewest penalties when playing them with 27 for 231. Were the refs gunning for Ohio St. to lose and trying to help their opponents?
4) Maryland's opponents were called for the most penalties when playing them with 62 for 562. Were the refs trying to help Maryland?

What I'm really saying is that I hear a lot of "THE BIG 10 REFS ARE HORRIBLE! THEY ARE SCREWING US OVER...", but the data is what it is. UCLA, Maryland, Nebraska and Wisconsin were the least disciplined teams during conference play based on the stats. Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State were the most disciplined teams.

Feel free to share your thoughts on this.

Pop Watson

See he is getting some time for Va Tech and sounds like he has a chance to start next year. It will be interesting to compare his career to the kid from Gretna everyone seemed to think was the better choice. I personally didn’t know much about either one, but suspected there might be some Nebraska bias in the thought process. Great thing about sports is you can usually find out who was right. Like I said, I didn’t take a side then or now. And we have DR now, so all good. But will keep an eye on this just for fun.
