Posting a link to Nebraska election results if anyone is looking to follow

It's a slippery slope to post this on this board so keep comments simple and will support it when mods need to move it lol

I was curious how our vote was going in state and I found this page that updates a lot since our elections mean less nationally than the others no one is talking about them. So if you are interested this is a ne.gov page keeping up the totals

QB choice for tomorrow

If Thompson can’t go or is ineffective, who gets the reps? My reading of Whipple’s comments and his pass happy mentality is Purdy. I see that as a mistake. We need some possession time in a game like this. And the zone read with Smothers might give us the best chance for that. It also gives Grant a better chance to break free. Smothers was 16-22 against Iowa last year. So he can throw it in a real game. Purdy has limited expert and Mickey has said he is playing nervous.

Mickey needs to overrule his OC and get Smothers in the game. He might not have the supporting cast to be successful but I think he gives us the best shot. His lack of snaps last week in the second half was sit poor coaching

Volleyball What We Learned: John Cook’s Tuesday Press Conference

Felt like I was back at UNL the way John Cook conducted his press conference today. He gave some awesome stories about the program’s move to Devaney and how the sellout streak began as Nebraska prepares for its 300th consecutive sellout on Friday. More coming later when we speak to Lindsay Krause this afternoon.

A seemingly ignored play from the Minn game

I've heard quite a few people talk about the "drop" by Palmer at the end (tough catch, but you'd think he usually comes up with that). But THIS play had myself and everyone around me yelling at the TV...

The play before Palmer's "drop" Smothers had an acreage of green grass in front of him with a clear path to the first down and instead threw the ball away (and Palmer wide open over the middle)

I know you don't usually take off and run in the 2 minute drill, but at that point there was still plenty of time left.

Best and funniest rumor I've heard so far.....

My Oklahoma State friend says that Gundy has tanked the season because he is cleaning out his desk and packing up the house to move on to getting his new job as Head Coach of Nebraska. He is only going through the motions right now to finish out the season. I guess that explains the downturn of the season in Stillwater the last few weeks.

NCAA and NFL Coaches Pay

Clarification and Admission I was Wrong.

I had posted a couple of times recently about what Coaches are paid. I had read that NFL Coaches make less than College Coaches. And in some cases it was significantly less.

A friend called me on that, so we looked it up. And we found that is not exactly the case. We used NBC Sports as our source.

The Top 10 NFL Coaches for 2022 will earn from $8million up to Sean McVay shown at $15m-$18million. Belichick #2 at $12.5million and Carroll #3 at $11million.

The 2nd 10 ran from $3million to $7million. There were 13 Coaches with no data to compare. They were mostly the newer Coaches.

Zac Taylor showed in the 2nd group at $4.5million..

So this is a Correction to my previous posts. Compensation would appear to very similar in comparison.

Mickey Joseph is the best coach we have had in a long time….

Why are we judging MJ on personnel he inherited? Our O Line is terrible and underdeveloped. Our LB group is young and undersized.

CT threw 2 costly picks, but that’s what happens when you can’t establish the run.

Mickey is positive and composed. They make good adjustments at half. You can tell kids like him.

I hope it’s him.

Why Mickey WILL Be Head Coach

Has nothing to do with on the field results and everything to do with Trev Alberts history as AD while at UNO. Towards the end of Dean Blias run as head coach of the hockey team, Trev brought in Mike Gabinet, who as you might guess, played for UNO in the early 2000’s. He was named… Wait for it… Associate Head Coach. When Dean Blais retired, take a guess who got the job… Yep, Mike Gabinet. Mike, as well as Mickey had no head coaching experience. So if history is any indication, Trev is not afraid to hire from within the organization. In all, Mikey’s tryout may be less about wins and losses (because nobody is saving this train wreck this year), and more about how he handles the day to day operations of job, which up to this point has been solid to good.

So take this as you will, but history shows Mickey is not out of the running here by a long shot.

In his time at NU, SF didn't recruit a QB who can throw the football.

I'd like to point out that Frost, who was supposed to be an offensive genius or at least a stellar offensive mind, didn't recruit quarterbacks who can throw. What sort of arrogance does it take to watch a kid with a weenie arm like McAfree or (sorry) Smothers and then gamble all of your chips on being able to transform them into a starting P5 QB? Maybe the sort of arrogance it takes to watch your offensive line recruits get humiliated in practice every day and then think you can make good players out of them. Frost fvcked this program worse than Riley. Maybe it wasn't arrogance, maybe he just isn't very bright.

When you consider the transfers that MJ brought in, how bad would this bunch be without them?

Football Five presser takeaways: Casey Thompson status, Marques Buford Jr. pushes back against Caleb Tannor comments

Below are five takeaways from today's press conference with Mickey Joseph, Marques Buford Jr., Ethan Piper and Travis Vokolek. But the two biggest things I noticed:

1: There was optimism that Casey Thompson would play against Minnesota. But even though more time will have passed for his injury to heal, it's apparent that the optimism is not as high this week. And Logan Smothers is not a shoo-in to start against Michigan.

2: Caleb Tannor made some glaring comments after the Minnesota loss about the defense's second-half effort and that they got "too comfortable." But Marques Buford Jr. on Tuesday pushed back against Tannor's comments about the defensive effort and energy.

Frost in Consideration for University of South Florida?

There is an article on MSN about it.

I can only assume they don’t have access to any media whatsoever from his head coaching stint at Nebraska.

I can’t stand that guy. If he had given his all and failed with his original contract, fine. However, he knew our situation and history, and he made over 30 million creating a disaster, much of which was on his meritless, bullsh*t extension. It feels like we got swindled.

Sports Illustrated Profiles Mickey

great read. some highlights:

Mickey's brother, Vance, when asked about Mickey's experience:
“Mickey’s had a chance to move up many times,” Vance says. “He’s never been in a job for the money. He could have been in the NFL seven or eight years ago. I’ve called him four or five times for jobs.

“He just coaches the game. He saves kids’ lives.”

Mickey on what he took over and where he sees the program:
“They were taking kids and rushing [the process]. That’s why the roster gets screwed up,” Joseph says. Critics often tell Joseph the only reason LSU won the 2019 national title is because they had really good players. His response: “Well, yeah, that’s what you need!”

“You got to recruit your ass off,” he continues. “We ain’t chasing Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. We are chasing Ohio State.”

---

“Everybody wants Nebraska to stay sleeping because we’ve got the resources, and they know I can get players,” Joseph says during a phone conversation from his office last week. “They don’t want this f---er to wake up.”
