Entrance Requirements

Some changes going forward:

Standardized Test Score Requirement Removed for 2023 Enrollees and Beyond

GPA and Core-Course Requirements Remain

During the 2023 NCAA Convention, Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. The vote was based on the recommendation from the Standardized Test Score Task Force, a specialized group charged with reviewing initial-eligibility requirements as part of the NCAA's eight-point plan to advance racial equity.

Among other requirements, college-bound student-athletes planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school are still required to have a 2.3 (DI)/2.2 (DII) grade-point average in 16 NCAA-approved core-course units and provide proof of high school graduation. Division-specific information on initial-eligibility requirements is available here:

Baseball Former Husker pitcher Nate Fisher lands with White Sox

Nate Fisher officially came to terms on a minor-league contract with the Chicago White Sox this afternoon while also receiving a spring training invite. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut on August 21, 2022 for the New York Mets when he pitched three innings allowing one hit, two walks and striking out one. That would be his lone appearance in the majors. While in the minors, Fisher finished the 2022 season with a 4.15 ERA in 84.2 innings pitched across 30 appearances including 13 starts.

As for predictions, I have no reason to change my FutureCast for Bell to be N. I am dangerously close to putting one in for Lefotu as well.

Ahman Green hired as lecturer and head coach for Nebraska's new esports team

An update on what Huskers all-time great RB Ahman Green is up to in his life/career after football:

Green has been hired by the University of Nebraska's College of Journalism and Mass Communications to be a lecturer and the head coach for the university's new esports team that is starting to get off the ground in Lincoln. Green has been the esports coach at Wisconsin's Lakeland University for the past three years. Pretty cool deal for Green.

NFL Network did a video feature story on Green's work as an esports coach in late November, which is linked below. The video says "unavailable" but you'd just have to click the "Watch on YouTube" link if you'd like to watch it. About a 6.5-minute video.

Huskerland Bob Article-Darcy Stracke

For those of you who don't venture over to the Huskerland Prep page, Bob Jensen did a write up on Darcy Stracke (also an interview over there as well). She was just a little ahead of my time, but man her high school career was amazing. Any of you on here that were able to follow her high school and college career got any good memories to share?

There's never been another like her. Not around these parts.
Darcy Stracke played her high school basketball at Stuart and then Chambers, leaving behind a resume unmatched in Nebraska history. Numbers, there are so many numbers, but know this much right off the bat - she remains the all-time leading scorer in Nebraska high school basketball, her 2,752 four more points than boys all-time leader Bill Holliday; she won state all four years of her career; she was an all-stater all four years of her career.
And that doesn't even count her being all-state in volleyball, or her winning state track meet gold in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. Or her hall of fame college career at UN-Kearney, nor being named college all-America at both UNK and UN-Omaha.
I mean, really, there's never been another like her. And today she shares time with Huskerland Bob via video conference to discuss her growing up in small town Nebraska, here sensational career, and her life after sports, including her favorite position on the team: mom to three great kids, including Tuff D. Stracke, who is 11; Lemon Stracke, who is 6; and Rook E. Stracke, age three. And they are all little ballers.

Here they are, the basketball playing Strackes, including (clockwise from upper left) mother Darcy, Lemon (6), Tuff D. (11), and Rook E. (3).

"They sure do love the game. I am so fortunate because I get to coach Lemon and Tuff's basketball team Coaching them brings me pure joy and happiness. Their passion and drive for the game reminds me of me at their age," says Darcy. "They have basketball in their blood and they already spend countless hours in the gym trying to be their best. They always tease me saying they are going to be better then me someday. Their my little gym kids and I sure do love them."
Darcy also comes from a basketball family, a sporting family, that includes among others her sister Sandy, who is married to Stuart boys basketball coach John Miller, and brother Jerry, who is the head girls basketball coach at Guardian Angels Central Catholic. You will hear more about all of them in the video but remember John and Sandy coached Darcy in high school, helping John win over 700 career games with Sandy at his side.
"Playing for John was truly a blessing. I was so lucky not only to be coached by my brother and law but arguably one of the best coaches in boy’s and girl’s Nebraska high school history," says Darcy. "John and my sister Sandy made me a better basketball player every day and the memories that I created with the both of them in basketball and track will never be forgotten. I will be forever thankful!"
As for Jerry he has made his own mark on Nebraska high school girls basketball, winning over 500 career games and state titles in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012 and 2017. But before all that he was, among other things, the best workout rebounder Darcy ever worked with. She told me so.
Here is our conversation with the great Darcy Stracke, who now lives in Billings, Montana:

Omaha North 2025 QB offers

Omaha North 2025 QB Sebastian Circo offered by Miami after his Louisiana 7 on 7 Tournament Team took home the trophy. The article mentioned other offers from Penn State, Boston College, Old Miss and Temple. Know Rhule is locking down the State, not being close to all the players and teams if this is going to raise concerns. Cannot recruit them all!
Kaz36 mentioned the PSU offer back in May 2022!

Football Three Thoughts on Georgia OL transfer addition Jacob Hood

Nebraska picked up its 11th addition from the transfer portal on Monday in Jacob Hood, a former offensive lineman at Georgia who spent his true freshman season with the Bulldogs, the back-to-back national champions.

Here are three thoughts on Hood:

Baseball Nebraska flips Lincoln Southeast's Will Jesske

Nebraska baseball received another commit in the Class of 2023 as Lincoln Southeast senior Will Jesske announced his decision to join the Huskers in the fall. Jesske is one of the better power hitters in the state and is listed as both a second and third basemen. Jesske joins high school teammate Max Buettenback as the second Southeast commit in the '23 class.

Jesske decommitted from Wichita State 15 days ago as previous Shocker head coach Eric Wedge left the program in early December.
