OT: Experience losing a loved one

Dad passed unexpectedly. 69 years old. Healthy guy who worked out. My parents and my wife’s parents are always at my house with the kids. One day dad came out of our den (where the kids play video games) holding his chest. My mother is a RN and took to his side and I called 911. Wasn’t a heart attack. Still went to ER. He had a dissected aorta and was rushed into emergency surgery. He made it through surgery but never got off breathing machine and his aorta dissected above where they fixed it.

I was the last person to talk with him. He was my best friend.

I took it pretty hard. I lost weight I didn’t need to. I’m 6’ tall and went down to 165lb. I’m usually 175lb. Lost my appetite. Fell into a depression that I’m finally coming out of. I also got sick, either gave myself gastritis or an ulcer, had to take PPIs which are helping but I don’t want to be on any pill.

Funny thing is, it’s been almost a month since he passed and it doesn’t feel real.

I’m doing much better now but that pain of grief and sorrow is very real. Nearly broke me. I’ve never lost someone close. However, my awesome wife and three boys have helped dig me out of the dark place I went to. Each day is getting much better and my overall health has returned.

I guess it’s also nice to hear others stories. It helps to hear you’re not alone when it comes to being nearly crushed from a close one’s death.

My poor dad. Gone too soon. My poor mom misses him so much.

It’s nice to write this down.

Losing someone you care about is very difficult

National Anthem performances....

.....my dad and I used to 'discuss' the WAY the National Anthem should be sung....as you might expect for having been born in 1929, he was totally old school...me, as a child of the 60s/70s, not so much....I know it is at times a very divisive song....wish it represented hope of what we COULD be....

That said, some of my favorites have been unusual in some degree...Jose Feliciano in 1971(almost got me kicked out of my family), Carlos Santana a couple of years ago at a GIANTS game...but I LOVED Stapleton's version last night....

Fire away...(btw...I would prefer America the Beautiful as our song)

Basketball Keisei Tominaga, Nebraska's 2nd-half MVP, sparks comeback win over Wisconsin

Keisei Tominaga has been Nebraska's MVP for the second half of this season. He's been a killer lately, and the lethal lefty was it again on Saturday. His 4-for-4 stretch from three during a five-minute period against Wisconsin was the catalyst for a 20-2 run (including 14 straight points) and a 73-63 OT win over the Badgers – the Huskers' largest comeback win in a decade.

He finished with a game-high 22 points and is averaging 16.9 points per game over the last nine – after averaging just 9.5 ppg over the first 17 games.

Football Corey Campbell gives snapshot into ideals, plans as Nebraska strength coach

Nebraska's head strength and conditioning coach Corey Campbell gave us the first extensive glimpse into his philosophies and plans during a Monday night appearance on the Huskers Radio Network:

Basketball Huskers take down Rutgers, league's top defense with poise, lethal shooting

Rutgers had the country's seventh-best scoring defense and was No. 1 in the Big Ten (59.1 ppg), in addition to having the sixth-best opponent field goal percentage (38.2%) in the nation.

Nebraska tore that defense apart with its second-best shooting (58.2%, including 42.9% from three) and second-best scoring performance of the season en route to an 82-72 upset win over Rutgers on the road on Tuesday night.

Takeaways from the Huskers' pulling off back-to-back wins for the first time since December and how they are getting it all done:

Site Stuff Apologies for the technical issues

As many of you already know, our site and message board were down throughout the afternoon for a few hours. There was an issue on the back end of our site and the most of the Rivals network for the Rivals homepage and most of the team sites. I apologize for the inconvenience. We are back up and running on both the site and board.

A message from Josh Helmholdt, Rivals' Director of Operations:

"Earlier today, one of Rivals' service providers experienced a global outage that caused the site to be inaccessible for several hours. This is a platform outside of our network or our control and many sites were impacted by this outage, not just Rivals. I want to apologize to those of you who were not able to access the site earlier today. All operations are now restored and we will be working with this provider to ensure that the issue that caused today's outage has been fixed and will not reoccur."
