Football Thinking Out Loud: Nebraska QB Spring Preview

I'll go through each position group before the start of spring practices and write down my thoughts. First up, the quarterback room.

Examples of Players that Prime is getting to replace ones who have left

1. A former 5.6 3 star DL who hardly played for Tennessee and was recruited over.

2. A Senior LB from FSU (former 4 star) who started some games for FSU, but is leaving as a senior because he won't play much in his last year. Kind of reminds me of Tre Neal for us back in 2018.

3. A DL who was a 2 star out of HS and started one game last year (in his 3rd year) for OLD DOMINION! Prime is actually bringing on a player who got recruited over at Old Dominion! He has a buddy that played with him at OD who transferred to CU earlier.

4. Another DL from FSU with 2 years of eligibility remaining who got recruited over. But he did start for FSU last season.

Not seeing the stars that Prime is promising. Sure, we've brought in some transfers like these guys: Wynn, T Johnson, N. Joseph, Kolarvic, Anthony, Williams, Green, etc. and they couldn't crack our frankly sorry lineup. But a guy that can't crack the starting lineup at Old Dominion? What the hell!

Baseball Live Thread Game 39 FINAL: Minnesota 9, Nebraska 7

Having some sickness going through my circle, so I'm covering tonight's series opener from my humble abode as Nebraska (22-15-1, 7-5) hosts Minnesota (11-28, 4-8) for a three-game series as the Huskers get back into B1G play. It's been a roller coaster of a week so far for the Huskers who slayed the in-state demon by upending Omaha 6-3 Tuesday night at Tal Anderson Field to pick up their first win over an in-state opponent this season. Here's the recap from that one:

But any of that momentum that was gained on Tuesday was halted on Wednesday as Nebraska laid an egg with an 8-3 loss to South Dakota State. By RPI, it was the worst loss of the season for the Huskers as true freshman starter Will Kent came into Haymarket Park and silenced a Husker offense for 5.2 shutout innings. It was also the first win for the Jackrabbits over Nebraska since 1971. Here's that recap:

Here's the full series preview for this weekend as the Gophers come into town. Minnesota owns the worst offense in the conference, but comes into Lincoln against a Husker rotation that has some question marks. Tonight, it's LHP Emmett Olson (5-2, 4.02 ERA) vs. LHP Tucker Novotny (1-5, 4.91 ERA). But the rotation gets thin behind that for NU as Jace Kaminska isn't labeled as the second starter after getting hammered in his last three starts. Expect to see Jackson Brockett and Will Walsh to start one of even both games depending how each game goes and what Kaminska's availability is.

Video Analyzing impact on Nebraska QB room as Casey Thompson enters portal

@Steve Marik wrote some thoughts on how Casey Thompson's departure impacts the Nebraska QB room:

@Greg Smith and I hopped on a video to dive into some more detail on Thompson's decision, take a look back at his one season with the program and that electric QB-WR connection he had with Trey Palmer.

Greg also makes a key point on how the room shapes up now with a similar QB style down the line of the depth chart:

Baseball Nebraska picks up commitment from JUCO transfer Rhett Stokes

The Nebraska baseball team added its 13th member of the 2023 recruiting class with a Friday afternoon commitment from middle infielder Rhett Stokes. It's an epic name and he's spent his first two seasons of college baseball at JUCO New Mexico Military Institute where he's hitting .417 as the leadoff man with 80 runs and 11 steals in 48 games. He's also added 11 home runs, 42 RBI and including a .779 slugging percentage.

The Roswell, New Mexico native will arrive in Lincoln as a junior. He's also worked 40 walks compared to 28 strikeouts this season which may be the most eye-popping statistic.
