NU Regents propose putting Nebraska Athletics under purview of system president Ted Carter

Two members of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents have proposed making system President Ted Carter responsible for providing policy direction and oversight to Husker Athletics.

Lincoln Regent Tim Clare and Regent Rob Schafer of Beatrice have recommended the change, which would put regents closer to the decision-making process of the athletics office. The proposed bylaw revision will go before regents at a special meeting May 31 as an informational item. It would then be put to a board vote on June 22.

In a joint statement, Clare and Schafer said Husker Athletics is "the single most iconic brand in the state of Nebraska."

"It makes sense for the president of the university system, with a direct line to the Board of Regents, to have oversight of the program that serves as the front door to the university for so many Nebraskans," they said.

The Board of Regents is responsible for hiring the system president. The president, in turn selects campus chancellors whose hires are later approved by the board.

Currently, the campus chancellors are responsible for choosing leaders for various campus offices, including the athletic director.

Intercollegiate athletics programs, particularly those in the so-called Power 5 conference, are large and complex entities "with enormous financial, legal and reputational implications for their entire institutions," the regents added.

"We're in the midst of the most intense period of change in our lifetimes for college athletics. Nebraska needs to stay on the leading edge of this new normal."

Carter will also take over UNL's spot on the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, which has oversight of the conference's policies, budget and operations, as well as hiring of the conference commissioner.

The change to regents' bylaws would not affect the athletic departments at the University of Nebraska at Omaha or the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

If approved by the regents in June, the bylaw change would take effect on July 1.

ACC approves new revenue sharing model

The ACC has approved a "success incentive initiative" that will begin during the 2024-25 academic year. No specifics on the initiative have been revealed yet, but the new program would impact how postseason revenue is distributed in football and men's basketball. The ACC indicated "the implementation of the success incentives will come solely from the performance of teams in revenue generating postseason competition. All other revenues will continue to be equally shared as currently outlined."

Currently, ACC schools split revenue from bowl games and College Football Playoff games equally. Some estimates say schools that do well in the football postseason, for example, could earn up to an extra $10 million than what they would have received under the current revenue sharing model.

ACC Board of Directors Announces Endorsement of Success Incentives
TheACC.com
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference Board of Directors today announced that it has endorsed a success incentive initiative that will begin during the 2024-25 academic year. The decision follows analysis and discussions that have occurred throughout the past year.

The specifics of the plan are in progress and will be solidified in the coming months. Under this initiative, the implementation of the success incentives will come solely from the performance of teams in revenue generating postseason competition. All other revenues will continue to be equally shared as currently outlined.

“The ACC Board of Directors continues to be committed to exploring all potential opportunities that will result in additional revenues and resources for the conference,” said ACC Board of Directors Chair and Duke University President Vincent E. Price. “Today’s decision provides a path to reward athletic success while also distributing additional revenue to the full membership.”

“Today’s endorsement follows significant and meaningful conversations by the ACC Board of Directors,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “To be certain, I applaud their thoughtfulness and continued commitment to working collectively. As we’ve communicated consistently, we remain dedicated to exploring all options to enhance support for our member institutions and their student-athletes.”

Does anybody have any potato salad and or coleslaw recipes they are willing to share? Also open to any other side dish ideas for grilling/smoking feasts.

Thanks! GBR!

Baseball Live Thread B1G 2nd Round FINAL: (1) Maryland 2, (4) Nebraska 1

Hello folks, I'm back at the impressive Charles Schwab Field for the second round of the 2023 Big Ten Tournament as No. 1 Maryland (38-19) takes on No. 4 Nebraska (32-21-1) with a berth in the semifinals on the line. A win today would give the victorious team a big boost in reaching the championship final on Sunday as it would require them to lose two games on Saturday to be knocked out.

First pitch is set for 6:43 p.m. due to No. 3 Iowa's 9-4 victory over No. 2 Indiana going late.

Nebraska is coming off the heels of a roller coaster win over No. 5 Rutgers Wednesday afternoon as a six-run seventh inning paved the path for a victory thanks to 1.2 shutdown innings from Will Walsh to close it out. Gabe Swansen and Charlie Fischer each belted three-run homers with Swansen's coming during that six-run seventh that put the Huskers ahead for good. The Scarlet Knights lost 6-4 earlier today to No. 8 Michigan State so the loser of tonight's matchup will take on the Spartans tomorrow at 7 p.m. Here's that recap from last night:

The Terps were tested in the opening round against the Spartans as despite having one of the best offenses in the country, Maryland was limited to three runs in a 3-2 victory over MSU. Here's a deep dive into the Terrapins and what to expect from them:

It'll be another good pitching matchup as RHP Nick Dean (3-1, 5.20 ERA) vs. RHP Jace Kaminska (7-3, 4.36 ERA). The Terps threw their Sunday starter Kyle McCoy on Tuesday, but he's been dealing with forearm issues so he only got through 0.2 innings. The bullpen had to carry the load, but they got an off day to rest up.

ICYMI, I broke down the Big Ten Tournament and all the big players to watch. Additionally, head coach Will Bolt and fifth-year reliever Kyle Perry spoke to the media ahead of going to Omaha. Here are those:
