Annual Property Tax Assessment B!tch-fest

Live in Lincoln. Year after year of massive valuations. 2 years ago I think they increased me like 27% of original purchase value. And got some crock about how they were trying to price in multiple years at once, so future increases were less.......well last year was double digits......this year is 17% increase. It's insane. City is run like a ****ing shit hole....(you all know exactly what I am saying).

I spoke to a realtor last year, just in passing, and she told me that if I thought I could sell my house for that valuation or more, then there isn't much I can do, because if they did an appeal, they'd just come to the same conclusion......Is this true? Does anyone have any experience with alternative options or the appeal process?

Because I'd say the valuation is close, to what I'd get for my home, but if I got less I know the county isn't going to refund me......and its one thing to eat it the last few years when the market is wild and you're gonna get whatever you ask for it, but now that properties are sitting longer, I dont think Mayor hyphenated last name from CA needs to be telling what my property is worth based on some mythical evaluation calculation.

OT: Tax prep

How many of you do your own taxes? What do you use?

My wife and I have been using a cpa for several years. Mainly because along with our W2 jobs I have a small LLC so I wasn't sure how to make those things jive.

Already have to pay in a chunk. It would be nice to at least save a buck or two on the prep work.

Football Shevin Smith Jr. will coach corners at Bemidji State

Shevin Smith Jr., who spent the past two seasons on Matt Rhule's staff, is no longer with the program and will coach Bemidji State's corners this fall, he announced on X this morning.

Smith was a grad assistant who helped with the DBs in 2023 and did some recruiting/coaching in 2024. Young coach who wants to get experience and climb the ranks.

Ot - favorite pizza type

In Detroit on business. Just had Buddy’s pizza. Detroit style. Looks heavy, feels light. Might have been the best pizza I’ve had. Crust was amazing and great ingredients, quality sauce.

Just saying…. This style is really good. And I live by Chicago. Not a fan of the tavern style/bar style. Cracker crust. But I love the deep dish, lou malnattis being my favorite of those.

In Elkhart we actually have great pizza being between Chicago and detroit. But buddy’s was better than anything local.

Countdown to 105

Shortly I'm going to post the entire roster that will need to be trimmed to 105 by fall. I've eliminated all graduating seniors as well as Malachai since he's entering the portal. I'll include the incoming true freshmen in bold type who have signed for next year.

It's going to be alphabetical and their listed position but not going to mess with what class they are due to redshirting, etc.

When someone enters the transfer portal I'll denote it by moving their name to the right of the active list and indicate they entered. The number in ( ) will indicate how many total players have entered the portal.

When NU signs someone from the portal I'll place an "x" in front of their name.

I'll add an xx after a player's name if it's a player we would like to retain and not lose to the portal.

This list will become very fluid when the portal opens Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Dec 28, 2024.
Non-grad students can enter beginning Dec. 9th through Jan. 1, 2025.

152 TOTAL (22) have entered the portal thus far. 10 on offense/12 on defense

The Long (but Short) Of It

The NCAA Softball Committee is bound by the 400-mile radius busing rule. That means that when a team can bus to a certain regional and there are no additional disqualifying reasons for them not to go there (e.g. conference conflict), that's where they're going.

Several times in the field you see above, teams were placed in a certain region or on a certain seed line based on the 400-mile radius rule. Seemingly-annual tournament matchups, the placement of which SEC team in in each regional, and other results seen here can be directly attributed to this rule.

With where the game is at this point, it's an antiquated rule, but it's one that still has to be followed for right now.[/COLOR]

Basketball Brice Williams Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Press released from Nebraska Athletics:

Williams Named Big Ten Player of the Week
Following a pair of wins over ranked opponents, Nebraska’s Brice Williams was tabbed as the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.

Williams earned his second award of the season as he averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in helping Nebraska post wins over No. 18 Illinois and at No. 16 Oregon. He finished with 27 points, including eight straight points in overtime, a season-best eight rebounds and four assists as the Huskers knocked off Illinois for the first time since 2018. In NU’s 77-71 win at Oregon, Williams had 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting along with seven rebounds and six assists to match a season high in that category.

Williams becomes the second Husker to win multiple Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors, joining Shavon Shields, who earned a pair of weekly honors during the 2013-14 season.

The Huskers continue their West Coast swing on Wednesday when they take on Washington. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. (CT) and the game will be carried on BTN and the Huskers Radio Network. Nebraska returns home for a matchup with Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 9, and tickets are available for the game by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets.
