Figured there would be a bunch of threads already about some speculation on baseball coaches to replace erstad. I am not too sure about Will Bolt. Even Justin Seely. I want a head coach with P5 HC experience. Also, do not want anything to do with Iowa athletics so Rick Heller would not ignite something in my pants either. IMO any head coach in the SEC would be fine. What if Dave Van Horn wanted a second run at the Huskers? Throw a line out at Pat Casey. Not sure how well George Horton would do with Midwest recruiting either.

story today in the Athletic about Moos swinging for the fences (get it) for this hire after home runs (see what I did there) in basketball/football

named Childress as the best possible hire and his assistants at Texas A&M Will Bolt and Justin Seely, both of whom played on NU CWS teams under Van Horn, as possibilities

Childress is signed through 2021, lots of ties to NU (spends offseason in Neb, daughter is an NU grad, still recruits Nebraska preps)

not really anyone else I'd rather have making the hire than Moos in the country, so we've got that going for us

Well, as long as we're getting a bunch of baseball related puns and what nots related to the hiring of the next coach, how can we not be excited and drink all the kool aid. Go ahead, just pump it directly in to my veins.

At this point considering the hires Moos has made, no one, I don't think, would blame you for main lining kool aid and having full expectations of Childress becoming Nebraska's next baseball coach.

Is that you Damon?

Bolts wife hates Nebraska and made him leave last time. He won’t be coming.

Why would Childress leave the talent rich Texas area to return? Bolt should be our target.

A&M's new AD came from Ole Miss, they've not extended him and he wasn't hired by the current regime. Ole Miss's coach was and he's done very well, so he may follow him and the big money. At least that's the speculation.

You must not do sarcasm well dumbass.

I knew I would catch somebody, you are it. Not such a top gun afterall, just a knee jerk mouth.

I'd consider Servais almost a step down from Erstad. Does not move the needle at all.
There's certainly nothing fancy about Ed, and would be nowhere near the splash of our football and basketball hires, but coaching-wise, he is not a step down from Erstad. Not at all, in my opinion.

Sorry, I was watching paint dry, forgot all about starting a baseball coaching thread.

The problem with Childress is the salary he already makes. Yes, we could afford to pay him because of the overall B1G share but baseball is and will be a cash drain at Nebraska due more to the weather issues more than anything. Depends if you want to sink that kind of money into it.

Ed is a good coach who does well with what he has to work with.
But we need to shoot higher than that.

We have talked about the extra scholarship limitations that the BiG TeN put into place for baseball. But also, the BiG TeN was instrumental in defeating the 3rd paid assistant coach proposal. There is resentment in the college baseball world against this conference for that. It may be harder to get a top coach than many seem to think. Moos wants an experienced head coach. Might have to be an up-and-comer from a smaller conference.

So be it. Urban Meyer says hello. Get an up-and-comer with red in his veins. GBR

Good points. I wonder if the new Commissioner can promote some changes there?

Ticket revenues would be increased greatly if he returns. Back when he was here with DVH and Anderson tickets were extremely hard to come by. I've seen tickets practically given away to fans for years

Yeah, and just a few years ago, you could get reserved-seat season tickets for just $99. When I saw that advertisement at a football game, I was astonished.

I used to have 6 season tickets. A few years of MA caused me to let them go. Great seats but just wasn't worth it. I couldn't get to alot of games so being able to get something for the unused games was important. Had to eat alot of them.

Back in the glory years, yes, the only thing available was ga burm seating

That's horse shit. We made three CWS and the weather hasn't changed that. Fill Haymarket with a winner and there isn't a reason.

I once had Season Ticket #18 at The Buck! It was a punch card with about 25 games on it. I think it cost $35.
Yeah, but that would be like $200 in today's dollars, right? :D

I went to a few games at Buck Beltzer. Unique having a mixed-surface field, but that right field was torn up from football practice. The best was when we became really good in 1999-2001 and the Okie States and Texases would complain about our facility. Seeing Ken Harvey steal bases. People sitting on their car hoods beyond left field with their radio on (then needing their car jumped after the game because they drained their battery).

I'm happy with Haymarket Park, but Buck Beltzer had a charm to it.

The argument ISN'T whether we could win, the argument IS whether we can make money in baseball WITH a coach paid the A&M salary (presently more than double what we're paying). Baseball can't/won't be a money maker, that's the statement. We can win IF we want to lose money on baseball. I'm not judging whether or not we want to or should do that. Unfortunately reality bites sometimes.

My top 5 in order.

1. Greg Lovelady

2. Dan Heefner

3. Pat Casey

4. Jeff Duncan

5. Rob Childress

Zero reasons one of those 5 is not our next coach. All are reasonable gets if the effort is made. I view anything outside of this as a lack of commitment to the program.

Just depends on if you want a young guy or a proven p5 coach.

what do you care? it's not your cash, bub

Um.. yeah it is. The basketball program hired Hoiberg and now season tickets went up $75. If the AD pays what it takes to get a coach like Childress I guarantee ticket prices go up for baseball.

I think it's a good investment but I won't fault someone questioning if it is... but either way it absolutely is our money in the end.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure I wouldn't roll the dice and go after Nate Thompson. He will be a P5 head coach soon. Go after him now. Might be the only chance to get him. Not that there isn't more fish in the ocean. But this guys resume is impressive and his stock is rising fast

Our fan base knows almost nothing about college baseball. They know Van Horn, Childress, and ?????????? They can certainly complain about a coach though, and require his firing but then are happy if the spot sits open. College baseball is a joke in the first place, has no parity whatsoever and the Lord T.O placed us in the worst college baseball conference in history of the sport. You have to remember there are a number of power 5 colleges who do not even field a team...it is such a low priority, so we have a low priority sport, and we are in the worst conference...the next hiring will be no better than what we had a few days ago.
