I know Frost and Co are going hard after Martinez. Obviously he fits best what they want to run here. Is the game plan to have him be QB next year? Or will one of our current 3 Qbs be next year with Martinez being the guy in a year or 2.
If Martinez is the plan, why would Gebia, POB, or LEE stick around?

Gebbia and POB have already used their redshirts, so if they transfer, they would lose a year of eligibility. I'm guessing they will stay for spring practice, and if one ends up behind the other and Martinez, that QB will likely transfer.

I'd like to see Joe Burrow transfer here, there's a good chance he'll be graduating this spring from OSU with 2 years of eligibility left, so he'd be able to play right away. A lot of OSU fans think he's the best overall QB on their roster.

POB. Ran a somewhat similar offense in HS. While not as fast as HCSF would like, POB is durable enough to take the pounding a still-shaky offensive line will cause. A-Mart is a year away if POB doesn't keep the job. Gebbia will probably transfer.

I see Tanner Lee Transferring for his Senior year...

The rest will be in contention in the Spring and let it play out from there the way it should be.

I was watching some CFB show yesterday and they were talking about how Ole Miss had 25 plays (on offense) in their playbook for a game...while Michigan had 250. Might explain why the Michigan offense looks like crap and I have to think that Frost will set up his offense in the best way possible for even a young QB to have success.

I think the reality is no one knows for certain what they have. Lots of speculation about TG and POB and how they will fit. Fact is not one of us knows for certain. Tanner would seem like the least likely to stick with his skill set so we will see on that. Feel sorry for he kid, came to Nebraska with high hopes, sat out, learned all he could and represented the U well. It will be an interesting spring for sure. I am not concerned about any of it.

I would hope Gebbia could move better than POB with his size, though, I've honestly never seen him run. There are obviously drills that can help...so, who knows? Maybe they can improve that part of their game.

True. Gebbia's built like Beau Davis, I don't see him lasting in this offense unless he can really bulk up. And O'Brien is a lot faster than people think. I believe his high school coach said he ran a 4.7 40 in high school, which is pretty good for a guy his size.

Im expecting-
Lee leaves as Senior Transfer before Spring. Best of luck to him
After Spring either POB or Gebbia leaves, Whoever stays is the starter
Martinez signs, plays sparingly in first 6 games- After game 6 against Wisconsin- he starts against Northwestern on 10/13 The next week is Minny
Bunch stays as an able emergency backup
Another QB is taken- Vedral, Burrow. maybe an in-state walk on
Need at least 4-5 QBs for this offense. Vedral sits for a year, Burrow can play immediately. For those saying Stick from NDSU will senior transfer- NO
I dont think we get Dugan next year
Martinez will be the guy and scares others off after seeing his potential in the second half of the season- The deal is- can he stay healthy? or will it be the Martinez curse #2?

I think it’s the opposite. Gebbia thrives and POB has a tough decision to make.

The key is who will be the starter in 2 years. If we think its going to be Martinez then no reason to red shirt him for a year of experience when Gebbie and POB have no more experience then Martinez operating this offense. If the upside is Martinez then play him.

I agree. I think there is a very good chance we have a freshman staring at QB next year, weather it is Gebbia or Martinez.

Pretty clear the staff wants Martinez and likes his potential to do the things the new O will require. Given his skill set, Lee would seem to be the odd man out, but who knows what will happen. POB and TG have the potential to run the new O and will compete for the #1 spot with Martinez. Their skill set may not match AMart's, but they do have the advantage of being college FB players for two years and one, respectively.
Competition and depth are a good thing. Frost is likely not done recruiting for the psn this year. Gebbia and Martinez are only a year apart in age and will only stay that way in terms of eligibility if AMart takes signs and takes a RS. POB is only one year ahead of TB One or more of these players will not be happy with the outcome of the competition.

Because this is a msg board. That is what we do here, speculation and guessing. You must not have been around for the whole 2 months of Neb coaching speculation, what if, who will it be, talk.

How'd that work out for you with Tanner Lee? And pretty much everyone knew Riley was getting fired and Frost was it. Only people like you who live off drama do this crap.

Lol how is speculating who the QB will be, drama? Again you must be new here. Speculation and guessing is 75% of what this board is. Guessing who recruits will be, guessing, who new coach would be, guessing what our record would be, guessing who Frost would bring along as assistants, guessing when Riley would be fired, ect... You might want to find a new board if that bothers you.

Gebbia would be murdered running the offense CFU implemented this season. POB could run it, how well TBD. If it's Gebbia, the offense will be significantly different otherwise NU would be ethically obligated to purchase a life insurance policy.

Until they compete in Spring practice, you have you're opinion and I and others have their's about Gibbia.

I disagree. Gebbia is more mobile than POB and while he's not a body builder, he could handle the 7 carries a game SF offense requires. Probably no less of a pounding than standing in the pocket behind a line like we've had. A while back, I put together a list of very successful duel threat QB's with similar height and weight to Gebbia; Teddy Bridgewater, etc. If I have time I'll try to dig it up.

So....just how big do you think Gebbia is now? Do you think he is the exact same weight he was when he arrived at NU? If you answer yes, you would be wrong.

He’s still a twig is his point. I bet Martinez beats out Gab. If true, our 3 saviors would either be gone or a backup. Lee,POB, Gab.

If he added 20 pounds he would still be another 20 pounds short of where he needs to be.

I disagree that Gebbia is more mobile than O'Brien, based on the high school film I've seen of both. They're pretty equal, and POB is much bigger and more physical. O'Brien's high school's offense was more like Frost's offense than Gebbia's - a lot more read option and QB runs. His last 2 years, POB ran 253 times for 1266 yards. That's over 10 carries a game and 5 yards per carry.

The knowledgeable guys I've listened to think Gebbia will win the job and question whether Martinez will be able to play yet after the shoulder surgery. Martinez is a long term commitment for us and we won't jeopardize his career by playing him too early.

I recall that Gebbia as a senior had virtually no backup and that meant he played the entire game even though many of the games were lopsided. Under those circumstances it would be crazy to run him often.

Milton is listed at 5’11” and 177 and he has been durable in the offense, so let’s not be assuming anything about Gebbia being too slight of build.
Gebbia is 6ft3. That's a big difference. If TG is clocking in under 220, the hits are going to take a bigger toll. I don't know, maybe they will coach him to slide before contact.

Lee got lit up like a Christmas tree all year and managed to get up. And he's 6'4.

Like I said earlier, the QB running game complements everything else in SF's offense. Milton was successful this season not because he was Mike Vick, but because he put that deep ball on a dime.

Thanks for making my point - Tanner Lee weighs 220. Also, it is important to point out that Lee is definitely not a running QB, crossed the LOS only if he was chased, and never took on B10 LBs and Safeties downfield.

martinez will not play next year

6'3", 193. If the season started tomorrow, yes....that is a little on the light side, still. But, does the season start tomorrow? I guess I was under the impression it started sometime around August of 2018.

So....you are betting that a kid that missed his entire senior season and whom you've never seen even practice against other DI caliber athletes, will beat out a kid that has looked like the best qb on campus, is arguably one of the strongest leaders on the current roster, can make all of the throws, and is a film room junkie? Laughing

Seriously, I hope the kid is THAT special.

That is why I like Gebbia chances, he has proven to be a accurate passer which is needed first in this type offense.
