Who is going to replace Banker, and Stewart

Travis Jones
Jerry Azzinaro
Mike Waufle
Giff Smith
Jethro Franklin

They are the West Coast D-Line coaches... Haven't heard any of these names yet, so if you are correct I'll give you a little less crap

According to Giff smith's bio, he basically spent no time on the west coast. Bills, Titans, Georgia tech.

It seems that Waufle has the closest connection to Riley

What's the connection?

"Parrella doesn’t forget his key mentors. McBride was one. Another is Mike Waufle, who coached Parrella in Oakland and now coaches defensive line for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams."

Parella seems to like him.

“My expectations are probably bigger than Memorial Stadium,” Parrella said. “Besides my wife, Mike Waufle, one of my good friends, is the defensive line coach for the Los Angeles Rams.”

The Huskers mirror many of the techniques the Rams use. “Our objective for every kid we coach is to help him reach his goal,” Parrella said. “If they’re looking to get into the National Football League, the tools are certainly here to get you there.”

Waufle is almost 63 yrs old. Riley seems to be moving the staff to a younger average age who have energy, willingness to recruit non-stop, and most importantly relate to players. Maybe the DC will be an older more fatherly figure?

That's generally why I'd place my bet on Jones. The other guys are all quite a bit older.

Who knows, quite exciting to see who we get.

Yeah, a 62-year old guy with zero experience as a coordinator doesn't excite me. Might as well keep Banker for another year.

Tell you a secret, you giving me crap is at the very bottom of my give an eff list.

His name is a hot one since lunch time. My question is, do you think Riley is going to hire someone without coordinating experience? I can't see him doing that, this single hire (d results) will define him at NU.

You are killing me Tim.

In another thought, does Riley think enough of the combined staff (Parella, Bray, NFL guy) that they would overcome some of the "never been a DC" risk by having pseudo co-DC and Parella's general playing experience?

Corn Nation threw out Bray - Lupoi as Co-DC's

(I also don't remember BoPeep having DC experience when we brought him from the Packers). He did alright, but didn't seem to have the recruiting chops of a guy like Jones.

I said in another thread I'm enjoying the speculation. Seriously, when I got out of baseball practice last night, there was 73 text messages on my phone about the announcement. Practice was over at 6:00, I got to my car around 6:15. 73, I didn't even know a phone can hold that many, lol.

I don't have an idea what Riley is going to do, and I'm not gonna let it consume me. Those days are gone, I'll just leave my phone on the charger in hopes of getting that one call or text. :D

My gut says the hire has DC experience.

I hear you. I'm just the messenger. Not sure another DLine coach is needed but that's just me, it's not my ass on the line. I'd hire Dave Aranda or Brent Venebles. Ha ha ha

You have ruined my life for the next several days I'm sure.

I'd hire them too, but I'm a dice roller as well. I'd hire Jones and call it a day too. He has experience in the front 7 (ie he could help Bray too), and it would appear we are fixing to keep 2 guys in the backend as well. Could be a real nice mix.

But there's a fair number of DL coaches to pick from so I'm quite possibly barking up the wrong tree.

I wasn't trying to put you on the spot, more curious of your opinion on the no experience part.

I would be shocked if the guy I was told is named D.C. As a fan pretty disappointed so I hope it isn't who I hear.

That said, on a national stage, Riley dumping assistants can look like desperation. Here is a guy that hasn't really met the lofty expectations of the Nebraska fan base and he just let go of 2 guys that have been with him a long ass time, in Banker and Read. The next D.C. Has to know that if it doesn't work out, he could only be here a year or two. If I am an NFL DLine coach or a up and coming Defensive star, not sure that lack of stability is all that attractive. Especially if your current position has some stability, may be just better to wait it out.

If we pay $500K+/yr to a younger DC then I'm sure that will overcome any fears of only being here a few years. Coaches know the days of 10 yrs at one place isn't happening thus the high salaries to account for that risk.

I just want to know where the hell is GBRhuskers? Has not posted in days after he's been posting every day for months basically. All of a sudden HTO is back and GBR is gone. Something strange going on. I'm going to have to ask my friends Clark Kent & Superman about this one, if I could ever get those two in a dam room together. Seems like Clark & Superman must not like each other or something cause they wont ever been in the same room together, very similar to GBR & HTO.

Seriously, HTO glad to have you back but if you are GBR too (not saying that's the case) but if you are, please don't take away gabrielle union please.

A few years is one thing, if this goes south next year could be it.

I think of the OC that Strong brought into Texas, Sterlin Gilbert. He left a comfortable gig at Tulsa then boom Strong is gone and his offense wasn't the reason why. Luckily for him, Strong took him to USF with him. I dont think the next D.C. Will have that parachute because Riley will probably be done.

Just an opinion.

I am hoping the hire works out, both offense and defense improve greatly and Nebraska starts a progression back to relevancy.

I think Riley and Devaney saw what Clemson did with hiring Brent Venables away from OU. The new culture at Nebraska for all coaches is recruit or hit the highway!!! I like that

You're thinking if NU doesn't achieve what next year, that SE will fire Riley and staff after 3 years? Seems a bit early IMO.

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Rams agreed to hire longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips to be their defensive coordinator on Thursday night, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

I was admitted to the hospital late Monday afternoon, returned home this morning. I won't be on the board much over the next several weeks.

Sorry to hear. Best wishes from me to you. Hopefully some positive Husker news keeps you feeling above board.

Hope everything is ok. If it is real bad, I'm sure Pennsy will talk to you about his butt surgery to make you feel better.
