Nebraska Football 2018: What the preseason magazines say
by Sean Keeler, Land of 10
Athlon (national edition)
Preseason Rank: No. 62
Predicted Record: 6-6, 3-6 Big Ten
Predicted Finish: 5th in the West Division
Projected Bowl: Pinstripe Bowl
Quote to Note: From an opposing Big Ten assistant coach: "I like the rah-rah attitude from the first day [Scott Frost] got there. But the reality is they're not that good on the offensive and defensive lines."
They said "what" again?: "Without overstating things, Frost and his staff were miracle workers at UCF, taking a program from 0-12 the season before they arrived to 13-0, including a Peach Bowl victory against Auburn last year, their second in Orlando. Whether they can work such magic in two seasons again is uncertain. Nebraska had better than 4-8 talent a year ago, and much of it returns."

Lindy's (national edition)
Preseason Rank: No. 47
Predicted Record: N/A
Predicted Finish: Fifth in the West Division
Projected Bowl: N/A
Quote to Note: "The schedule is rough with road games at Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin -- and NU's roster needs a weight-room makeover. NU is better than its 2017 record, but 6-6 and a bowl game is a reasonable goal for 2018."
They said "what" again? The overall secondary depth is tissue-thin, and an aggressive scheme is only effective if the corners can cover the deep pass. Nebraska tried very few throws in the spring game, and perhaps for a reason: The Huskers didn't want other teams to see how vulnerable they might be."

Street & Smith's
Predicted Rank: N/A
Predicted Record: N/A
Predicted Finish: Fourth in the West Division
Projected Bowl: TaxSlayer Bowl
Quote to Note: "The Cornhuskers have already re-ignited their recruiting, and a wave of excitement in Scott Frost's first year as head coach could lead to a big upset or two."
They said "what" again? "On the field, the reality is that Frost inherited a Nebraska roster that was a long way from contention, and its schedule this season runs the Big Ten gauntlet."
