He wanted Dana to come in last December and I remember that but Dana wasn't ready and wanted to decompress as he had just been fired from Houston and fresh into the unemployment line and wasn't ready, plus I think his Buyout had something to do with it and the timing of it was bad as well.
Rhule also knows his expertise isn’t on the offensive side of the ball. He’s a defensive coach.

I have to hand it to Rhule in allowing DH to freely answer questions from the press, and mostly for apparently handing the offense over to new guy in the midst of the season.
It’s kind of a perfect setup for someone like him. Come in with some big swinging dick energy, lay out the brutal truth as you see it, change up the depth chart as you like, and call the plays.
If there’s any signs of improvement, you get all the credit and a series of fat paychecks. And if not, you might still get the paychecks.

Yeah, my point is those types get it done. Pelini was just fvking nuts though but won. DH is blunt and harsh and that’s exactly what we need at this point.
Saban also chewed everyone’s ass and all he did was be the greatest college coach ever. Lanning seems dickish and look at his record.

Man, Fidone is just not the guy. At least not consistently. I feel bad for him because of the injuries but that's the hand he's been dealt by the almighty.
The PC was an inditement on the current situation. In some respects I have to respect that MR made the decision to bring DH in as OC but I'm like most, what the F took so long?
If you asked me today, right now, I'd make DH associate head coach, OC....pay him whatever he wanted to keep him (i know pay isn't the issue) and I'd give him as much control as he wanted (fire assistants etc., recruiting).

I hope that happens. Especially if we make a bowl and end that pathetic streak. Would love an experienced WR coach, who can also recruit big time WR and land them.

Modern college football is a huge money making business. Coaches are paid millions. The better players getting big chunks of money. The old days of purely “amateur student athletes” football are over. Coaches need to adjust and adopt more of an NFL mentality and treat the players like adults who are going to be held accountable. Play with a slack-jawed laziness and you are gone. Treating players in a way that coddles them on the grounds that they are just “kids” is a recipe for what we have seen. Here is to hoping that Rhule fires some of his assistants and brings in guys who get the new reality.
Osborne wasn’t too dickish but he had some of his assistants take on that role for the most part. He did break out the ‘dadgummit’ once a decade or so though
We were 5-1 three games before he got there. He tried to get him in December. I don’t understand the narrative of what took so long.
What took so long was the firing of Satterfield. And if DH was not available then find someone else. It isn’t as if DH is the only competent OC out there. Rhule wasted this season waiting for DH if that is what he was doing. Not acceptable

No. Dana said in his press conference he was tired and burned out and that he turned Rhule down. He didn't want the stress right then and all he was doing as an analyst was video study and game planning for a couple of days and then he went and did other things unrelated to football while their staff did the install and coached the game. He didn't want to do more than that then.
He hired Thomas because Dana turned him down. He did what he could. He knew we needed a QB coach. We actually moved the ball in spurts last year. The problem was the turnovers. I think it was virtually impossible to evaluate the play calling because our QB play was so bad at times. It was a rough first year but that wasn't unexpected. He deserves credit for bringing in Thomas but Thomas couldn't fix Satt's play calling. As Sirles said, Dylan is struggling in large part because he's hurt and tentative now. THAT is one of the reasons I believe it might be a good idea to sit him and play Haarberg.
I can vividly remember Josh Allen playing for Wyoming and I can't help but wonder what could be with Haarberg. Allen was wildly inaccurate at times with Wyoming but he had a big arm and could run over DBs when he scrambled. What would happen with Haarberg at QB with what is obviously a better O line in front of him and Dana as a play caller. There's only one way to find out and you won't know playing him a snap or two at a time. Allen's junior year I think he thew 4 INTs against us and our D line hammered him time after time. He ended up as a first rounder. I know you're down on Heinrich but I really like what I've seen from him this fall. I think he's an obvious choice at least in the redzone.
I understand that, I agreed with Pennsy saying Rhule could have found someone else last winter since Dana wasn’t interested at that time. Yes Glenn Thomas came but did he do any playcalling?
It’s hard for most of us to picture any success with Haarberg because of how long it’s been since we’ve seen a back up qb do well here. Ron Kellog was somewhat ok but really have to go back to Joe Ganz 16-17 years ago. Been a long list other other backups that underwhelmed recently- Logan Smothers, McCaffery, Ryker Fyfe, Chubba Purdy.
Just like so much else it’s burned into us that good surprises happen everywhere else but here.

Rhule will choose his buddy over the most qualified candidate everytime, unless he's genuinely concerned about his own job.

People are too locked in to their views about Haarberg because of what happened last year. He was our leading rusher last year. He could be that again just on called pass plays where Dylan gets sacked. He's not likely to throw those sideline touch passes where our WR has to make an unbelievable catch BUT maybe he can find a wide open Banks for 6 or a wide open Barney streaking down the middle of the field for at the very least a huge gain. Dylan makes some great throws but those were plays that Dylan didn't make for whatever reason. Haarberg damned sure is going to give DCs headaches with his mobility. I'm not saying he should be a full time starter and I'm not expecting Joe Burrow but I think our offense needs a spark and Dylan hasn't gotten it done.
So answer the question. Did you watch Dana's press conference? Clearly you did not or you wouldn't have made up such foolishness. And I haven't been to a Hooters for at least 20 years when my wife and I went to one literally because that's the only close place we could find to eat at a basketball tourney.

So let me get this straight… you’re claim is as soon as Thomas came available, Rhule kicked DH to the curb, and 9 months later, has returned to DH asking him to sign up?
And rather than telling MR to go fly a kite, DH says, “where do I sign up?”
That’s your take? Because if MR “gave him the finger,” I gotta believe when MR came calling a second time, DH would have a finger ready for MR.

I am slowly coming around to the idea of playing HH. And that is because I agree that DR is playing injured. One telling sign is how few “long balls” he has thrown over the past five games compared to the first five. I think he injured his throwing arm at some point. This explains too his hesitancy at attempting throws he made easily earlier in the season.

> Dana immediately agrees to join Nebraska staff when called
You'd have me believe that Holgorsen took the trouble to meet with Rhule, told him he actually wasn't interested in coaching this year, then took a job at TCU?
Holgorsen knew the existing offensive staff was full of dumbasses, probably told Rhule to demote Satterfield and get rid of the child WR coach. Rhule's solution was to get another yes man.
Fast-forward to 2 weeks ago, Rhule calls Dana with his tail tucked between his legs to ask for help from the coach who absolutely crushed him the last time they played.
Of course I watched it, I've also lived long enough to know that what someone says on a podium with regards to their current employer is rarely the honest truth.
DH seems happy to be here, which is why he immediately agreed to join when Rhule realized his charity masquerading as a coaching staff wasn't cutting it.
Hopefully Rhule is smart enough to concede staff opinions to DH in order to retain him through next year.
Dylan obviously took a hit on his throwing shoulder weeks ago. He trotted off the field at one point with his right arm dangling. Then a couple of weeks after that he grabbed at his shoulder after a throw. He's had the ankle issue most of the year and then took that hit to the back. This past game he reached for his back at least once. He's had the hell beat out of him this year and I'm not surprised by that. You can't have a QB throw 44 times in a losing effort and expect him to emerge healthy. By contrast I believe the Detroit Lions had a game where their number one overall draft pick drop back QB threw the ball 14 times in an entire game. We CAN run the ball. We need to commit to it.
So even when DH says he wasn’t interested or ready at that time you contend Glenn Thomas was the top pick?
So now Dana is a liar too? Alrighty then.... Thomas didn't get paraded around Lincoln and he was hired weeks after Dana left town. It's okay to be wrong. Just admit it.
And if that's what he wants nobody would blame Dana. He might also decide that 1.3 million can buy a lot of happiness without the BS a head coach has to deal with....
