We told you.

I think the hope was that for a coach who has been known as someone who gets the most out of talent would be able to win big at NU due to the added resources and ease of recruiting at a place like NU compared to Oregon State. That still remains to be seen. I don't think anybody...even before coaching a coach thought Riley came without flaws. Hell, go to a Bama board after a loss and you will find a number of Saban flaws that we didn't know about. No, I'm not saying Riley=Saban...I just don't think anybody was under the impression he was the perfect coach and human being.

I can agree with this. As I said before, I think Riley can have a lot of success at Neb, but he needs to make changes to his staff or the chances of him having success are low. I like Riley and wish him well, but his biggest flaw is his loyalty to his assistants.

No matter how great your facilities are, or what the talent level is like, it all comes down to coaching ability. If the coaches are not doing their jobs, then you lose to a team like Illinois. Just as OSU lost to two FCS teams under Riley... and that was a huge black eye to the program. Neither Sac St, nor Eastern Washington have the resources, facilities, or roster talent of OSU, but both out-coached OSU.

I appreciate the back and forth discussion so far and lack of "cheap shots" so thank you!

Yes, this year may not be a good one for OSU, but the record will not tell all. OSU is one of youngest teams in all of CFB this year.... 5th youngest in fact. There are only 12 Seniors on the roster, compared to 52 FR/True Frosh. We're starting a true freshman QB and had to replace 9 defensive starters from last years team.

The two losses are against Stanford and Michigan. Do you think Nebraska would will beat Michigan? What if Neb played Stanford? Both games were close at halftime and very competitive but the youth and inexperience was too much to overcome in the second half of each game.

Despite the 2-2 record, the team has shown a lot of growth and many of the problems we saw last year (false starts, personal fouls, delay of game) have been eliminated. You can see the team getting better each week, so we're hopeful the team will have the experience and depth next season to be a legit competitor in the pac12.

"Legit competitor in the PAC12."

I'm assuming I would get the same laughter if I told someone Nebraska had a chance to win the Big 10....

The sooner you learn your lot in life, the sooner you realize to take off work in mid-December each year to watch your bowl game.

If Riley doesn't win, he will be out of here pronto, and we will eventually get it right. The point is we will always be a better program than OSU, because we will never settle for mediocrity, and will always be able to do something about it. That's the inherent difference between our schools. Understand kiddo?

There is no question that Riley is a nice guy and will run a clean program, but he's too attached to his assistant coaches, and honestly, they are the ones dragging him down. Here, it appeared his biggest priority was making sure they had jobs, instead of holding them accountable, and winning games. When the AD was forcing some changes with his staff after last season, the easiest thing for him to do was move on so he could bring all his friends with him.

You asked what happened after the 2009 season... Well, mostly what happened is the other schools in the conference were making upgrades to their coaching staffs, and changing their offenses... Riley stuck with what he knew and refused to adapt.

I really think Riley could lead Nebraska to some very successful seasons, but not unless he makes some serious changes to his staff.
Thanks for your input. Ignore the dipsh*ts that talk like Nebraska is a national power - we are not even a conference power, let alone a weak a** division power. The only time they leave their backyard is to go to a Nebraska game in Lincoln and reminisce the 90s. If they would ever leave the state and talk to anyone born in the millennial generation, they will realize a fast growing percentage of college football fans do not even consider Nebraska when the topic of great college football comes up.

Belched up like a perfect balding, bloated, beer bellied, back woods hillbilly squeezed into their faded national champions t-shirt.

Full lustrous head of hair. Go to the gym 5 times a week. Haven't worn a national champions shirt since the year after the '94 championship. And Oregon State will still be playing in bowls in mid-December in their best years. And Nebraska will still have the dough to be putting the best possible team on the field long after your sad ass is gone. Which tells me you have no idea of what made this program what it is to begin with.
