I don't like piling on players especially walk-ons who have meant so much to our program in the past and today. I also don't want to talk about Dylan Utter's abilities and performance from an ability standpoint. However, what I will discuss is a players effort. As a former coach and current Activities Director, I never wanted to question a kids abilities and how they perform. How hard they play is another issue.
After watching the game a couple of times last night, his effort left a lot to be desired. We all saw him get blown up at times, and those things happen. I would tell you to go back and watch numerous plays that were still going on and players were hustling to get involved in the play. He on the other stand, stood and watched as other players continued to give an effort or he outright walked down the field as the play was still going. That part of his game would really, really concern me if I was Cav more than the fact that he gets beat quite a bit. You can always control your effort, and there were many times last night that he just didn't give an effort. That concerns me more than his abilities.
