USC comes into the Vault as 6 point dog

If Williams tries at all offensively for even half that game, we win. That was a borderline suspect display from him. I think he was 1/1 for the game on drives to the basket which happened with under 3 minutes to go. Partnering with Ulis on some illegal gambling?

NU was favored by like 7 and you think they point shaved to lose by 5?

What was a once proming season is turning slowly into shit show.

Offense looks stagnant and besides Williams and at times Essegian Hoiberg doesn’t have enough perimeter shooters to run his offense.

The basketball IQ of the players is lacking as well as the lack of a true leader at the point guard position. Someone who can pull the ball, set up the offense and take control when things get a little wonky.

Thanks for reminding me we are not very good at a position that is crucial to have a good team.

Time to light a fire under that coaching hot seat. With NIL and all of his experience, it is ridiculous that all Fred could buy is a couple good players. In the three point era great guards are required and we have one very good one and bunch of “guys,” none of whom deserve to play a lot of minutes.
I am amazed how poorly we did in the portal. After a strong showing last year, I was expecting great things. With all Fred’s talk about being tougher and wanting it more, he should be held accountable for putting together a poor roster.

It's called accepting reality. Hoiberg was quite successful at Iowa State, so much so that he was hired by a prestigious NBA franchise. Name one "ELITE" coach that would take this job, especially if we fired a coach who was national coach of the year just a year ago?

Some of you delusional people actually think successful coaches at major programs are thinking "I'd love the chance to go to a program where every coach has failed to win an NCAA tournament game and gotten fired"
Its called afraid to have a pair of balls and pay an elite coach. Its $$$$ they will take it. These elite coaches have no fear of anything. It's in their DNA. Pay them. They would come. We won't and we accept shitty basketball. Thats our history and we have fans and AD's who are afraid to change it.

Momentum for a program like NU BB seems so fragile. Just a couple of weeks ago Fred looked like he had turned the corner on building something, and now the wheels are coming off this season, and next year is going to be another big roster overhaul with alot of questions, starting with can Fred do better in the portal that he did this year. Mast returning would help, but I don't see it happening - I think he's like 24-25 years old.

If I’m not mistaken, Fred is one of the top paid coaches in the league. I know he took a pay cut after finishing dead last three years in a row. I agree that we accept shitty basketball. Hire an up and coming young coach who can recruit and motivate. Fred can’t do that.

Fred’s key recruiter left 2 years ago I believe? Definitely do not get the high level player like Bryce McGowens without him around. And the motivation part I agree completely with. Team goes on the road and seems to accept defeat before tip off, no high level of defensive effort given, compared to home games.

Abelabledashilabler or something like that. Fred inherited Isaiah Roby and couldn’t win shit with him. Then he got McGowens and couldn’t win with him. Frankly, I think plugging young NBA talent into a roster with great culture, other good players (maybe not NBA good, but good college players) and good coach can work out great and look amazing come march. Plugging an NBA player into crappy roster on team with poor/no culture and a suspect coach who is trying to build something from scratch... Good luck

You can’t build anything with 18 year old NBA talent. You only have the kid for 1 year so you better have something built already to plug him into. You just can’t build a program on the back of an 18 year old that you only have for 1 year.

Fred just has a one year at a time plan and n regards to roster management. Now they did get Gary and Williams to return this year man I’d hate to see where things would be without them!!

What’s your point? Did we not lose a game we were favored in? The best bet would’ve been the upset, no?
No, traditionally when point shaving is discovered you do not want it to look "obvious" and you really don't want the team that is "supposed to win" to lose.

Ideally, from information that we get from point shaving, you want the favorite to still win the game (the player is still happy) you just don't want them to cover.

You probably also would not pick a line like 8ish but probably more like 12 and up, just to make it easier.

I think in this case you just have a bad team playing against a team with better players. I don't think it was point shaving. That just doesn't happen that much.

You know what, forget it, we can just say it was point shaving and that the players threw the game.

I have no idea. I was just noting that Brice’s play looked like he wasn’t interested in himself or his team scoring points for 85% of the game.

Roby didn't play for Fred, he declared for the draft right after Tim Miles was fired.

Fred inherited only one player from Miles: Thorir Thorbjarnarson. Otherwise he had to put together an entirely new roster.

You’re right about Roby. I thought for sure Hoiberg could sway him back. Too bad we didn’t have NIL. Scratch that, he probably would have transferred to Creighton.
