USC comes into the Vault as 4.5 dogs

Interested to watch mainly to see if they do anything different. Game plan, rotations, etc. Status quo doesn't seem to be working.

Not a great matchup for us - they're athletic
UCLA was athletic. Shooting teams are probably more of our Achilles heel. USC only makes 6.4 treys per game and their defense is pretty bad. We should find points and also get to the line plenty.

Their season/schedule has been wild. They appear to be improving massively as the season goes..They went from scoring just 36 points on St Mary’s to beating Illinois on the road.

Yup, our achilles heel are teams with good backcourts that can light it up from 3. Not that an athletic team that doesn’t shoot it well can’t be a problem, but that’s not the blueprint for the type of team we struggle with.

A play in game shouldn’t count for a tournament win.
So if Nebraska is the 11 seed and is in the play in game and beats another 11 seed you don't think Nebraska fans will be calling this an NCAA tournament win and won't be claiming that Nebraska is no longer the last power league team or whatever it is, to have an NCAA tournament win? Or is it just the 16 vs 16 matchup that shouldn't count?

If NU doesn't make the BTT, Fred needs to be gone and they need to do all the van to get Devires from WVU because Iowa is going to try top land him as well.

One thing that I know for sure about Nebraska men's athletics....... I don't know anything for sure about Nebraska mens athletics.

But his win % in the BIG has been one of the best over the last year and a half (it goes something like that). Wasn’t there an op just a couple weeks ago praising him and ridiculing those who were critical of his time here? he’d better get moving on those wins.

Im not for Firing Fred, but he definitely needs to be in the BIG tourney. He's had enough time. Who comes after him? WTFK's?

This game has the same feel in terms of potential tipping point in the season as the football team's home game against UCLA this year. Hopefully the outcome is different.

Beating another team not already in the tourney shouldn’t count t towards a tourney win. Neither of you are in the field of 64 yet.

Northwestern just did this a few years ago

It counts IMO

Right. USC also does not typically offensive rebound well like the A&M team in the tourney loss did. Biggest concern will be stopping them in the paint without foul trouble.

Someone much better when an AD with a set of balls pays the needed cash to get an elite coach.
What elite coaches come to mind? We've been down this road as a fan base before. We are Nebraska....The best want to come here... and then crickets!

History is very telling.

Oh yeah! I remember that stat!!!

He has done well over the last 30 conference games, I guess, but missing the BTT minus some horrible injuries, should be grounds for firing.

That aTm team could rebound, defend the perimeter and take the ball to the rim with the best of them. If you caught them on a bad shooting night they were very beatable, but when they made 3s they were one of the best teams in the country.

I believe both their 3 point defense and 3 point offense were near dead last going into that game. I remember thinking Kesei was primed for a huge night. We uncharacteristically missed shots and they uncharacteristically drained 3’s on top of dominating the boards. Ugly game

Not that I'm losing faith or anything but I think I'll keep tabs on this game by checking this thread first before I commit to watching it live.
😬

I just don't see how you can keep him if he doesn't make the BTT.

That would be what, 1 NCAA tourney, no tourney wins and not making the BTT in 7 years?

Fred IMO was/is a tremendous hire. IF we want to win more we have to fund basketball NIL WAY better.

No "elite" coach is coming to Nebraska. Fred is as close to elite as we could have expected to hire. He won multiple Big 12 championships at Iowa State, made a Sweet 16, averaged 23 wins/year, was an NBA head coach and NBA executive

Was a disappointing night for sure…

West Virginia is a better basketball job than Nebraska. DeVries would not leave there for Nebraska. If he keeps winning he will be able to get about any job he wants. He'd be dumb to go somewhere where nobody has been able to win.

Even more so....after people leave Nebraska as the head coach what happens to them? Seriously, over the last 3 decades what past NU coach has gone on to be a head coach at Power 4 conference? I can't think of anyone. Some aren't even in coaching any more.

This is undoubtedly true. But that doesn’t mean we can’t pull a good coach away from a better basketball program. Money talks and we have a lot more of it. We can post a number they(WVU) won’t be able to match, and it’s really tough for coaches (anyone) to turn down more money.
