Trev talks renovations for Memorial stadium. Turns 100 this fall

as many have said previously - in much of stadium the seating conditions are atrocious

for those would like improved seating - which has to involve less seats - what is the plan for either having some fans forfeit their seats or move to a less desirable location with improved seats

maybe they increase ticket prices and some ticket holders naturally give them up

I think any reduced seating to improve conditions is going to associated with a rise in prices

if 90K x ticket prices + concessions etc yields X dollars
then they are going to have to figure out how 85K is going to generate the same revenue

That's not gonna happen. Not in our lifetimes anyway.
Honestly should have happened before West stadium project was even a thought years ago. I know I’m different than most people in this, because I don’t get the attachment to crappy old buildings some people have.

They would have to build a new stadium on the same spot, right? I can't think of any other location without taking it off campus which would be a horrible idea.

They just spent 170 million on new facilities. I doubt the money for a brand new stadium is an option right now.

It's funny that no one had a problem with the stadium when we were winning. Ok, maybe except for the folks in the north end zone where the seats and room are way too small, and there are not enough exits. That could easiliy be corrected on the existing structure though.

Unless Warren coughs up $1 billion for a new stadium, it's not happening. And Warren is not coughing up the money. I don't think anyone wants to get rid of Cameron Indoor or Allen Field House and they are both "dumps"- and yes, I've been to both.

Location would have to stay the same. Great location and so many businesses are built around the stadium.
After visiting other BIG10 stadiums, I think our location is terrible.

I180 being right there and not being able to tailgate anywhere close to the stadium (compared to Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Champaign) is a total bummer.

I disagree. I think it gives our pre-game partying a unique tenor among big schools. The focus is on downtown and the bars and restaurants. This is somewhat similar in Madison as well. I went to a Penn State game pre Covid and it is in the middle of ****ing nowhere and State College is a total shithole. The whole thing is nothing but 15 square miles of tailgating which gets real boring real fast.

Yeah, I suppose it's personal preference. I don't have access to tailgates anymore so I'm more partial to the bar scene these days. Just something about walking through campus to get to the stadium that I like. Just a legit college vibe I guess.

Do people go downtown or to the Haymarket to tailgate?

I've never been to State College, but from what you're saying, Champaign, Ann Arbor & East Lansing are happy mediums between Lincoln & Penn St.

Personally I think there is a good mix. Tailgating areas are small and not ideal but they exist. You have the north bottoms for college kids to house party. And then what I consider some awesome bar options and lots of them within walking distance. Now we just need more late games.

I have been to Minny, NW, Michigan, Wisky, Illinois and Purdue for games.

My opinion is that Nebraska has the best bar layout, O street on game day is a blast, Barry's is super fun and the Rail Yard is great for fans. The tailgating for Husker games is great BUT the layout/locations of it are not ideal.

Illinois is probably second, Purdue third.

NW doesn't really count.

Michigan is horrible.

Minny is horrible.

Wisconsin was fun.

Agreed. I heard the North Bottoms are amazing for college kids.

O Street is a great time on game day with really good prices. Barry's might be one of the best college/game day bars around.

Allen Fieldhouse is a complete shithole. But again, it’s just a building

I was there for the overtime game years ago around turkey day when the students were gone. You are right about it being in the middle of nowhere. It was so cold that day. Forecast didn’t say it was supposed to be that bad. I definitely didn’t bring warm enough clothes for that one. Made it through till the end, took what felt like 2 days to start feeling my toes again

The outside of the stadium is incredible, but it looks like we ran out of money and have those extended bleachers in the corners that overhang (looks dumb). Just lose some seats and bowl it in with the same structure elsewhere. Add a small strip of indoor club seats seating in N/S so it bowls around. Also, drop a few seats a row and I think everyone is mostly happy.

Least popular opinion that will be on here. Finally tear down the absolute turd that Memorial Stadium is, and build new
I think would happen if not for the logistics. It would have to be built at a different spot and I don’t believe politically that will ever happen. For me, just improve the seating by at the very least getting rid of 2 seats per row to accommodate our ever fatter fans.

Fan comfort is a much bigger deal than the interior appearance. I’m a fairly skinny guy as is the rest of my entourage and we can’t sit shoulder to shoulder without somebody leaning forward or twisting sidewise. It’s ridiculous.

Ioway City tailgating is mostly around neighborhoods around Kinnick…

Tear down South Stadium 1st and replace with concourse, connect SE & SW ends with East & west side, new restrooms, concessions and big screen. Incorporate chair back seating. Engineer/design outside similar to rest of stadium only do something really unique, unreal, kick butt. Something that makes you go Wow! Awesome!!

Besides better seats I would like to see that HS press box thing disappear in the opposite end zone and put a matching big replay screen in there.
I love that thing for some reason. So awesome. I get theyll take it out but its kind of iconic on its own.
