Trev talks renovations for Memorial stadium. Turns 100 this fall

They can solve the seating issues through attrition over time. The restrooms will be tougher to solve.

Honestly should have happened before West stadium project was even a thought years ago. I know I’m different than most people in this, because I don’t get the attachment to crappy old buildings some people have.
You must be fancy, memorial stadium isnt that crappy, other than seats in the end zones.
People are going to drink before games whether beer is sold in the stadium or not. Might as well sell 8-dollar beers and make some revenue for the University.
The current system is for the best. Id much rather people be able to bring it in illegally. Screw 8 dollar beers! The garth brooks concert had many instances where selling alcohol became a problem. Dont shoot the messenger.
Id rather not have beer poured all over me, myself. Yes people drink now but to say it wouldnt be worse with beer sales is delusional.

The way the fan survey was worded I got the impression they would have a separate bar area for drinking. I'm impartial to selling alcohol in the stadium. I drink before games but probably wouldn't spend $10 on a beer and miss half the game using the restroom.

There was SERIOUS talk about it in the 70s and early 80s. Lincoln and Lincoln chamber put a kibosh on that REAL fast because popular opinion was to build it outside city limits

as many have said previously - in much of stadium the seating conditions are atrocious

for those would like improved seating - which has to involve less seats - what is the plan for either having some fans forfeit their seats or move to a less desirable location with improved seats

maybe they increase ticket prices and some ticket holders naturally give them up

I think any reduced seating to improve conditions is going to associated with a rise in prices

if 90K x ticket prices + concessions etc yields X dollars
then they are going to have to figure out how 85K is going to generate the same revenue
The population of our state and our country are on the decline. Immigration is keeping it from going to far down but most immigrants don't buy Husker season tickets as far as I know. I see Memorial stadium being great at 65k to 75k capacity and it not being an issue in terms of fans being displaced from their seats.

I really liked the Chief's stadium(got free tickets, not really an NFL guy), I liked the Gator bowl.

I liked those stadiums because they used ramps to the upper levels instead of stairways, and there were concourses around each level with restrooms and concessions on each level.

This makes it easier on the fan by providing them a much MUCH easier way to relieve themselves during a 4+ hour event. And it is conducive to profit generation by making it not so much an epic journey to get a coke, or a beer soon enough, and something to chew on.

But in order to do this they would need to tear it down and rebuild it, just leave the west face of the stadium as is.

Do people go downtown or to the Haymarket to tailgate?

I've never been to State College, but from what you're saying, Champaign, Ann Arbor & East Lansing are happy mediums between Lincoln & Penn St.
They go to both. And it is also not true that there is no tailgating at all. There is plenty of tailgating.

Glad they didn't do that.

Stadiums actually in cities ala Memorial or Fenway just feel right. Everyone walking from local bars and restaurants, milling about town.
Contrast that with a stadium surrounded by a GIANT f@cking parking lot. No contest in my eyes.

You are honest at least and said you're different than most.
But that can be said of many places. Fenway? Just an old building. Coliseum? Just an old building. Falling Water? Just an old building.
For me there is beauty in the history.

while I agree ... the teams that own the parking rights make a shit load of money

the teams/universities don't see any of the revenue when cars are stacked on golf course and lawns surrounfing the stadiums

I wonder if the university hosting football "watch parties" at campus sites would be revenue positive

you charge a large cover price - massive big screen boards - food, alcohol etc

personally i would rather attend something like this - comfortable accommodations in party atmosphere with great food and drink as opposed to sitting next to some 350# wide ass in shitty weather

Loved the Blatt. Waaaaay better than the sterile stadium they replaced it with.
Attendance has been significantly better since the move away from the blatt.
Also consider the ncaa dictating a more modern facility or they will entertain other venues

that effect will be negated several fold when they decide to start serving alcohol
I apologize for being insensitive but they are essentially just waiting for TO to pass away before opening the taps

Along with the moderization project, (which I hope includes a rebuild of south stadium) and a complete overhaul of the internet and wifi network to better tech), I would love them to finish the facade around the corners while adding enough structural support for some restroom facilities (concessions would't hurt either) to serve the upper sections of the endzones.

Then since the locker rooms and everything are moving to the new building, turn the entire Osborne complex into a NIL store, managed and opperated by the athletes.(Through the N club?) Where Athletes can have their stuff for sale and do autograph signings and such.

Then take all the trophies awards, memorbillia ect. And turn the Colliseum into a Husker Hall of Fame Museum. Have exhibits, put in a small theatre that shows old games and other things in the archive that aren't available anywhere... etc. The new Gymnastics facility is over by the Bob now so I don't think it's even in real use?

Take the top half of the end zone seating and put them right on top of the bottom half….. upper deck. Put all those fans as close to the field as humanly possible.

Maybe but I suspect most of the people using the John are doing so because of all they drank before they came in. I’ve used the stadium pee trough once over the last half dozen games and I’m an old man.

The outside of the stadium is incredible, but it looks like we ran out of money and have those extended bleachers in the corners that overhang (looks dumb). Just lose some seats and bowl it in with the same structure elsewhere. Add a small strip of indoor club seats seating in N/S so it bowls around. Also, drop a few seats a row and I think everyone is mostly happy.
I hate the visible angled columns on the exterior corners. Looks like a complete half assed job. At least cover them up and conceal them.

Memorial Stadium is a dump

But so are basically every other major college stadiums

I don't believe I said there is "no tailgating" in Lincoln. If I implied that, I didn't mean to.

I meant, I don't think tailgating, proximity-wise near Memorial stadium, is that good. Not the tailgating itself, just locations because you're fighting against so many major streets.

I much prefer places like East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Champaign.

Personally I’m not wild about tailgating. I like to go to Tico’s pregame and have somebody wait on me sitting in a nice comfy chair. Tailgating is a bunch of standing around and wondering where the porta potty is at.

And once you find it, waiting in line for a half hour while drunk chicks cut in line and no one says anything because they are drunk chicks.

Meh. Give me a decent experience over going to an old dump, just because it’s always been an old dump.

I get wanting the VB crowd record back and all, but when Penn St. does the same thing some day, then it’s game over.

We will have to enjoy it while it lasts.
I like Cook, have season tix, and follow the volleyball program fairly close. That being said, I’m going to absolutely laugh my ass off when that thing is canceled because of rain or humidity on the floor. It’s a novel idea, but I have no interest in getting anyone injured.
I also greatly look forward to the mouth breathers in the fanbase (the majority of Husker fans) that will piss themselves when it’s canceled. Can’t wait to hear the experts say things like “I paid for this ticket, when can I use it”, and “football would have played”.

Why is everyone fatter these days and why are we catering (pun intended) to them?

The bars around the Blatt were brutal, so much better now.

I wonder is there a different surface they can play on, like one of those grippy type courts?

It seems like a disaster waiting to happen but if they can play BB on a ****ing boat maybe this will work too.

You are 100% right about the freak out if it is cancelled, my god, people are still mad at that spring game that got rained out.
