TO Blessing Mickey

TO handpicked Solich and hired Pelini...those have been our two best HC's since TO retired, so I'm not sure it's fair to say he doesn't know about coaching hires....he did it better than AD's who were professional managers hired to do the job.
[/QUOT

Just think what might of been with a real coaching search.

1,000’s of Husker fans are predicting Mickey to be HC. No I am not one of them, I am not making any predictions. And no the voices in your head do not count as “sources”.
There seems to be support for Mickey across all areas of the fanbase. I wonder what it's like among the booster set. And of course a former teammate is the AD.

Also, people try to overlook the fact that Pelini was engaged in a two-year psychotic break. Every game involved a camera dedicated to Pelini because everyone was pretty sure he was going to murder someone on the sideline.
Pelini should have been allowed to fail on the field. Same with Solich. Instead we had ADs who divined that failure for them was right around the corner, so they had to be cashiered.

I'm not a Pelini fan and my relief at his firing was only outdone by my shock at the terrible Riley hire. We've had some terrible ADs and University leadership, for sure. No one has been talking about Ronnie Green lately as everyone is focused on Trev, but I guarantee that little weasel will have his hands all over this hiring process.

TO is one of the last people I want involved in the coaching search.
I will point out that since TO retired, the records of the men he was involved in directly recommending (Solich) or hiring (Pelini) were a combined 125-46, with one conference title and seven division titles. The two with no TO involvement were 46-41, with one division title. Frost was basically a near unanimous pick.

Mickey might get all of our blessing if he actually started bringing in high ranked OL and DL. I would be much more on board to see those guys start committing instead of another skill position guy at this point.
That would def help! Even one or two of those JUCOS offered recently would suffice

I get what you are saying but just maybe if MJ is the guy he is telling a RB that applewhite will be in the fold and be his position coach. Not sure he can tell potential OL or DL recruits that about Raoila or Dawson.

Yeah, but if he is the head guy they are a lot of times committing to the head coach. I know he is putting out offers, but much more interested to see us starting filling in our lines. I think we've recruited a decent amount of skill and can probably get a few more in the portal, but they aren't shit if we can't protect our QB, get a rush, or stop the run.

I agree. The lines are the glaring issues. My concern with MJ is filling out the staff with experienced successful assistants.

Even after the loss to Illinois expect Mickey to be named the coach here either before the season ends or soon after.
TO gave Trev the official blessing that he thinks Mickey deserves a shot to be head coach.
TO wants Mickey to get at least 4-5years like Frost did and knows 9 weeks is not enough when almost none of the players and coaches are Mickeys guys. TO has agreed to mentor MJ.
Ask a current recruits family about what Trev says about Mickey.

Mickey Joseph head football coach Nebraska. Congratulations coach.
OK, you don’t get off with type info without validation. Fill in the sourcing backdrop. We need more. Thank you.

Had they won it was coming. An AD doesn’t want it to happen after a loss. Ideally a win for sure. But it will happen. So quit the rumors of other coaches Mickey is the guy. Whipple will be gone as Mickey, TO, and Trev prefer a more running and physical style of play.
Well I agree with the running and physical style of play. Trev’s said he wants that.

Trev’s reputation and career are on the line in replacing Frost and soon Hoiberg. He holds the title of Associate Chancellor as well Athletic Director. There are bigger plans for Trev than Athletics. He can’t blow it.

He has to be his own man, and make the appropriate call. He can’t allow Coach Osborne’s to make the decision. Input yes, decision no. Trev has way to much to lose, to be wrong.

IMO, if this is the case, it was the plan from the very beginning. Either that, or the top ten people on Trev’s list didn’t work out.

Thank you. It's amazing how people reinvent these guys after they've been long gone. They compare them with the putrid performances of Riley and Frost as an example why we shouldn't ever have gotten rid of them. You said exactly the reasons why we got rid of them.
And the backsliding under FS was masked by the brilliance of Eric Crouch.

In hindsight, Frost had a real Dan Hawkins vibe.
I kinda felt the same way about 2-3 years in to Frost's tenure. Hawk at least had more than just 1 year of success at Boise before CU, but very similar.

What happens if they dont win another game? Cant be announced after a win if there isnt another win.

With all due respect T.O. hasn't gotten anything right in a very long time !!!

If TO got so much wrong, then every other school except Bama has done the same. Everyone has gone or is going through this same cycle. The big difference is we had many years of excellence that likely will never be repeated and we want it back.

It is pretty common in my old line of work to have someone has a mentor the first few years. Regardless of what anyone thinks, I would want no one else besides TO. His knowledge of the game and his ability to work with people is excellent.

Of course, that is my opinion only. YMMV

Go-go offenses that didn't work in a better league.

T.O. has been off base on his decisions since he quit coaching !
Let's see. The two coaches who won at a clip consistent with TO and Bob were either hired by TO (Bo) or effectively hired by TO (Solich). The two coaches that he had no role in hiring did not. He didn't have to put his thumb on the scale for Frost. That mistaken choice was largely universal.

This is so true.

Another poster with this horrible take. It makes no sense.
Who recruited Crouch (twice)??
Who coached Crouch?
Who called plays for Crouch?

Frank Solich. You cant say solich is the cause of backsliding when he recruited, coached, and called plays for a heisman winner.
Also, the rest of the team was still pretty darn good, too.

Backsliding is overblown. Anyone is going to look like backsliding after the last 5 years Osborne had. The 6-6 year sucked but went 10-3 the next year.

Frank should come back and coach
